You're so lucky to be able to say "what, no!" at the end and be able to jump right into the next one hahah! Both films are the shortest-feeling 2hr-45min movies I have ever seen. I got to the end of both thinking I could totally do with a whole hour longer.
Excited for your part 2 reaction. cheers!

Great reaction man, these two films are pretty much a dream come true for nearly a life-long Dune fan like myself. I have my criticisms of both, but even with that factored in they are still my two fav movies of all time and the second one is legit one of the best movies ever made imo, regardless of genre! I try not to overhype it to people who haven't seen it yet, but thus far - the majority of people who've seen it can attest to it's excellence. Ya gotta react to that one next if u loved this movie!

“The emperor is doing this because he wants the Harkonnen’s to take out Chalamet’s people” dude you clocked it, most people don’t get that especially not right away

It's a rather sad state of affairs that most people don't get it when it's practically spelled out multiple times.

Correct me if I’m wrong…the emperor sent the Atredes to Arrakis because they’d be far away from home, vulnerable, unprepared, and no witnesses. Am I right? Part of me wondered why they didn’t just attack them at Caladan

    • @hoon_sol
      @hoon_sol 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@chrisherber1635:
Yes, indeed. The Harkonnens would never have succeeded with such an attack on Caladan; it would likely also have caused more of an uproar among the other houses, although what happened was already quite suspect.

@@chrisherber1635 all good points and great ways to ensure victory, but primarily because the emperor did not want to be implicated in their extermination, by giving them Arrakis he makes it seem like it was entirely the Harkonnen’s retaliation that was responsible. Gives the emperor plausible deniability

Just watched both parts of Dune this week for the first time and I never would’ve thought this was gonna be an issue.. they clearly state the emperor’s motives.

A Crysknife is sacred to the Fremen. It must taste blood before it can be sheathed again-hence the small cuts to the arms of the wielder if the knife isn’t used.

Paul does not see the future, he sees possible futures in dreams, he must choose which path he wants, and he can make mistakes....

  • @goblin2bis707

They must use swords and knifes because of the shields, kinetic weapon cannot go inside a shield (only slowy), and notlaser gun because the shield explodes (and the laser gun) with atomic force, so this is too dangerous. Also on Dune, the shield attracts the worms which go in a killing frenzy. That's in the books of the Dune universe. This is not fully explained in this movie.

Emperors don't like it when subsidiary nobles (i.e., Duke Atreides) become too popular among their subjects. As the Japanese say, "the nail that sticks up gets knocked down".

This movie is only half of the first book of the original Dune saga of 6 books (writen between 1965-1985 by Frank Herbert). Later his son Brian Herbert continues the story, expanding it with 16 books more. This masterpiece si one of the most famous, complex and revered SF saga of all time together with Lord of the rings (from Tolkien in the fourties) and Foundation saga (from Isaac Asimov inthe fifties and more...).

In addition: the big cylindrical ship is a guild Heighliner. Your ship docks with it and it functions kind of like a bus. Faster than light travel is achieved by space folding, but in the earliest days there was a huge problem. About 10% of all trips vanished without a trace, and it was never discovered what happened to them.
The spice is consumed in enormous quantities by Space Guild navigators, giving them a limited prescience. This allows them to guide the ship safely.

I guess I'm a bit of a dinosaur. I still enjoy David Lynch's version more. No disrespect to Villeneuve or fans of his version. Granted, Lynch's version is quite campy, but it also has a kind of baroque grandeur that I like. (I also REALLY dislike the aircraft with flapping wings in Villeneuve's version. Not an engineer, but this just seems like bad design...) Carry on Ralphie. I'll still enjoy watching this reaction because of your sense of humour.

@zenonorth1193 the ornithopters in this movie are more accurate than those blocky monstrosities in Lynch's disaster of a film. While it's a good film for its time it's a bad Dune adaptation overall.
