Oh I can’t wait to see the end piece. I too hate glazing but this video is so helpful to understand all the techniques. Thanks for sharing. Praying to the kiln gods!

WOW. In the kitchen and this can be the messiest part. You're not the first I've seen to use the kitchen and I do a bit myself too. Glazing videos can be boring but not this one, you've used every technique. I'm holding my breath for the firing.

Lol! Yes, I have the messiest kitchen, and it's a beautiful kitchen that I basically use for glazing. I hardly ever cook anymore. 😀

You really inspired me to construct a totem for my yard!! Thank you! Just got the rebar yesterday so it's standing proud! I made pieces from pinch, slab and thrown methods. I can't wait to see your finished totem! Thanks for all your inspiring videos!!

Ive done lots of smaller pieces of clay work in Adult Ed classes over the years and now as I'm realising how finishing off the ,planning, throwing and making, stages is so important ,what still scares me is glazing. A few pieces I'm actually proud off, in my opinion, I've been disappointed because of the glaze finish. I know with time it will get easier, but i tend to put it off until so that is all that needs doing, i then spend all class time in glazing, and i still dislike the finish, no amount of praise and nice words from fellow pottery students helps, they see it as a great piece because I have thrown it, most are hand builders, I'm 1 of a few throwers, i just see disaster, I cant wait till this comes out of the kiln, I'd like to do a small totem, maybe next year. thanks for sharing words and actions to your glaze process x

Glazing is intimidating! It can make or ruin a piece, and you don't have a lot of control over what the heat of the kiln will do. I'm on pins and needles right now waiting. Crazy and fun that we do this!

I love the look of my work before glazing. I haven't done it yet, but I wonder if just clear glaze would work for us.

@@triciac1019 im sure even that id mess it up. The whole process scares me, the fear of the unknown defnitly. Some of my pieces im proud off , but glazing, no.

A pottery teacher shared her cleaning tip with me.....like you, don't wax. Use a large square wet sponge, set piece on it and twist. The cleaning line is even and neat. Also, less work!

Hi Tiffinie! Thanks for posting the glazing video. I DO find them interesting, because there are so many different techniques and variables. How thick, how to layer, how to avoid layering, etc. I think that's the last big struggle for learning potters. We finally learn to make great shapes, and dread glazing because it's the last chance to mess it up.
Personally, I dread glazing because it's an all day job...sometimes several days! It depends on the number of pieces and the complexity of the glaze composition.
I love the idea of scraping the bottom. It gets the glaze material back in the bucket, for future use. I suppose you'd have to watch the specific gravity and maybe adjust, but that's a thing anyway, right? I was a bit surprised that you didn't wax the flowers after you glazed them and before you removed the tape.
Your hammered copper sink is gorgeous! Call me jealous! But seriously, I hope you get good news about the MRI, and am sending healing thoughts your way.
    Take care, and stay centered!

I actually don't worry too much about specific gravity. It's never worked for me. Maybe it's because I'm at 4500 feet altitude? I learned by feel of the glaze and testing and knowing how my glazes work. It's such a learning curve! Completely different than making pottery and can make or break a piece. We ate crazy potters. 😀
