    Can't tell you how timely this video was. Here I am priming this and their other cav models by TMC and this notification pops up.
    Great video as always. I REALLY like these TMC print 'n paint vids. They have so many quality models, seems there could be a playlist just for them! 😉

    Mini looks great. I always loved the look of the horses with the gas masks.
    I can fully agree with using the brass rod for the lance. I have a resin printed mini I use as a Rogue Psyker for my Chaos Killteam and she has a large staff topped with a symbol of chaos and a human skull. Painted it gold with a flesh wash (can't recall which right now) and silver highlights. Looks great and has the appearance of old gold. The problem is that it constantly bows and looks like a melancholy chaos staff. I have to constantly straighten the damn thing. If I could go back I would have used a little shaft of metal to keep it nice and straight.
    "Spaceman made of magic light and goo." needs to be a shirt.

      There's nothing that looks as dreary and depressed as a bunch of resin weapons drooping in a cabinet... 😂 The limitations of the medium, I suppose! But the optional parts designed to take the brass rod are a nice touch. Certainly saves me some time!

    Love the color scheme on this miniature. The green armor, really made it appear as a more modern figure worried about not standing out. While if you had painted it steel or brass for example it would represent more of that 19th or early 20th century style of uniform. My only grip with the miniature itself is that while the horse has a bandolier of magazine pouches, I see no type of firearm on the figure. Some type of firearm on the figure would have been nice. They could have included a carbine for example to place on his back with some glue.

    The model looks fantastic! The subject is unique and the paint colors really make the model look great. I learned from the paint blob on the model on how to clean up a mistake like that so this was very helpful Thanks for sharing this and have a Happy New Year.

      Gotta be quick before that paint settles, of course! I'm not sure how easily it'd work on a hot summer day, but I ordinary try to avoid painting if it's THAT hot. 😅

    Thank you for a great tutorial! May I have few questions please? In case I wish to stay with VMC what paint you suggest to highlight German Camo Black Brown? Due to my broken English, I have not caught the tip with Corax white. You suggest to add few drops of Lahmian medium to the pot? Don’t you have a tiphow to refresh a Citadel dry paint, when it becomes almost a jelly? I have just open my Terminatus stone and it is difficult to work it into the bristles. Thank you so much in advance, I love your channel!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Something like Cavalry Brown would probably be the best choice. It's slightly more red than Doombull Brown, but you can either thin it down slightly more or mix in a little of the black brown and it'll be fine.
      The Terminatus Stone should be pretty stiff and jelly-like, though - it's a 'Dry' paint, designed to be used with a stiff bristled brush and drybrushed on. If you need something that's a similar colour but a traditional paint, something like Screaming Skull is probably closest.

    little tip. Source a gadget called a mini paint mixer ( looks like a drink frother) from Amazon or hobby shops. The badger brand one has more guts to it in my experience vs the generic ones. I add a a bit of medium to corax white ( or any paints that's gone a bit think or chunky) and mix away. Smoothest white in seconds even if its damn near a rubber plug with a bit more medium and a few extra minutes of mixing it will be smooth again.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aye, I've got a vortex mixer myself. Absolute life-saver!

    • @MasterVyper
      @MasterVyper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio Ive got one of those my self, I still suggest the mini mixer though for the more far gone paints, its a game changer.

    3:31 "... what I'm going to do now is, introduce a little bit of layering..." I thought you'd done that when you forgot to turn anti-aliasing on? 🤔
    This is a nicely grim looking mini and paint job.

    I've recently watched your video on AP Strong tone and Agrax Earthshade where you said that you prefer Strong Tone but noticed that you usually use Agrax, why is that?
    And of course great video as always :)

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The short answer is that Agrax Earthshade tends to give more easily repeatable results. I still use Strong Tone quite a bit myself, but it's not as simple as 'splodge on and let dry' like Agrax can be.

    • @adamkurowski725
      @adamkurowski725 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudioThanks for the answer and your reasoning, interesting point as i found Strong Tone to actually be more repeatable and Agrax requiring more work.

      See, someone might laugh, but it's actually nice to have something like that stand out. I have to moisturize pretty thoroughly before getting started on these videos or I have horrible dry hands that look chalky and gross - not the best look for presentation when that's all of you that people usually see! 😅

    No camo? It's a cool mini and great paint job but those layer lines are just so obvious on the video especially after the wash.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, not everything is camo. 😜 The lines you're seeing aren't actually typical layer lines, but 'stepping' which occurs when a screen is trying to project a curved surface. As mentioned in the video if I'd remembered to turn on anti-aliasing for the print, those would be smoothed out, but in this case? I just plum forgot!

  • @ghostlincoln9304
    @ghostlincoln9304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man those print lines....

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! Like I mentioned, anti-aliasing would have gotten rid of those, but I outright forgot to turn it on while printing. Whoops.
