I went to public school in Germany where sex ed is on the schedule in 3rd, 6th and 9th grade. We learned about everything that happens during puberty and pregnancy, periods (very specifically with all the hormones, receptors and stuff), STDs, all the methods to not get pregnant (even pros and cons of terminal and temporary sterilisation) and consent, but the non-hetero part was limited to: "there are other sexualities, we are not going to talk about them, but whatever you do; just stay save." For some reason the boys and girls weren’t separated and we were all stuffed in a classroom together and our “guest” teacher was a male army lieutenant. It was horrific. My parents moved me to another school the following year. That was eighth grade and so luckily the science subject that year was earth science! I really wish that educators could try to not make puberty sound like such an ugly process and I wish that adults in general could stop acting like sex is this unfortunate and embarrassing thing that happens to people. Take away the taboo and the embarrassment of quite simply put, loving someone and being in love with love with someone romantically, emotionally and sexually.
