      that was never even a question for me. I also always found f40 a very ugly car. the f50 was always a prettier version of f40 for me: not that short stocky and squared look. and with a much better engine (probably the best supercar engine ever, how can you match an f1 v12?)
      thats definitely one of the big mysteries of mankind for me: why everybody prefer the f40 over the magnificent f50? maybe because f40 is the last enzo ferrari car, that helps with its mythical status. but thats it, theres any other single argument for preferring the f40: uglier, worst engine with turbolag, worst aerodynamics etc

    I think Enzo Ferrari definitely would have loved the F50 but I think he would have liked the 550 Maranello more as it's closer in spirit to his vision of what Ferraris should be: big powerful V12 up front sending power to the rear wheels via a manual gearbox and a driver s***ing his pants in the middle of it all.

    My understanding is one of the major criticisms of the F50 was the immense discomfort felt whilst driving. The consequence of bolting the engine directly to the frame was extreme vibrations and harshness, so much so, that many who drove the car said it was a painful experience.

    0:18 The video talks about the F50 having something that no other Ferrari ever had, a true Formula One based engine. However, there are two other engines and series of cars, that are contenders for this claim.
    #1 The Ferrari Lampredi V12 engine as used in sports and GT cars such as the Ferrari 340 America, the Ferrari 250 Europa and the Ferrari 410 Superamerica, but first used in racing. Ferrari began racing in Formula One using the 1.5 L supercharged Ferrari V12 'Colombo' engine. But engineer Aurelio Lampredi, was able to persusde Ferrari that a non supercharged 4.5 L engine, which was allowed under the rules, would be more successful. The purpose build Lampredi V12 race engine, had a wider bore spacing than the Colombo V12, and was first racing in F1 in 1950, winning championship races in 1951. Being a race engine, it was missing some features expected in road cars, for example, unlike the Colombo V12, there was no provision for a starter motor to be mounted on the engine block. Some people might argue that the formula in use was not Formula One, but a pre-war "voiturette" formula. However, the FIA list the 1950 season as the first Formula One championship.
    #2 The Ferrari Dino V6 engine in 65° V6 format, was designed for Formula One, Formula Two and sports car racing. The 65° V-angle allowed straight intakes in a DOHC V6 engine configuration, and powered the Ferrari 246 F1 car in 1958, becoming the first V6-engined car to win a Formula One Grand Prix. The Fiat Dino and "Ferrari" Dino road cars used 2.0 L 65° V6 DOHC Dino engines, and this came about because there was a need for 500 production vehicles, to homologate the engine for racing under new F2 regulations. The 65° V6 race engine design, was converted to road use, with some of the work being carried out by Aurelio Lampredi, who now worked for Fiat (side note: Lampredi is also responsible for the engine which became the most successful WRC engine of all time).
    Thanks for the video, a lot of great info there.

The F50 is beautifully engineered with the unique to a road ferrari car engine being a stressed member and directly bolted to the chassis F1 style , but still too large and heavy road car for narrower twisty roads. • @bestopinion9257
      @bestopinion9257 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@TahirPassionGP My point is that , objective, McLaren F1 is not derived from an existing F1 car.
      At that time McLaren F1 was the first street car with F1 solution: carbon fiber monocoque, the engine linked directly to it and being part of resistance structure, gearbox linked to engine and suspension linked to gearbox.
      Not even Group C cars were like that. But soon after that solution became the norm for street GT1 and racing cars in general not only F1. And you can't say all of those are derived from F1.
      What made F50 more linked to F1 was, along with that implemented solution above mentioned, a modified F1 engine.
      Porsche Carera has an engine made for F1 but that never was in F1.
      Anyway, McLaren F1 is a better car than both F50 and AMG One, from all standing points, engine included. That engine won two times LM with two different cars. F50 is a nice toy and AMG One is a fail if you ask me.

    • @hindsite275
      @hindsite275 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@luisdetomaso867 I think saying it is “just” a tuned version of BMWs in period engines undermines the uniqueness and mostly complete redesign of the engine that would be made primarily for the F1. It nearly doubled the power output of what was used in the road cars, and plays a large part in what makes the F1 such a special car. But whilst you are technically correct, having a quick look on the internet, it appears a motorsport engine ended up being derived from the McLaren F1 engine, which probably lends it an even greater provenance, than with it being derived from an F1/ Motorsport engine itself.

    This is a long video to talk about how impressed you are by the engine design. Which speaks volumes about why the f40 is just a better car to drive/own, and the f50 has a half decent engine that would be excellent in a different vehicle. (Once you use an entirely different engine management system because Ferrari somehow can screw up the electrical system, Even with a Bosch controller)

    Amazing under the hood but my god I hated its look so much - it was like one of these ridiculously cheerful and random-looking Japanese cars 😩 Very different from the F40. I just couldn't take it seriously despite what's inside.

  • @goldtaker95

    that was never even a question for me.

    My favorite Ferrari ist still the 288 GTO, i'll never drive a Ferrari, so i don't care about handling or acceleration, for me, only looks matter. I prefer high revving NA engines over grunty turbos, but the F50 simply doesn't make my pants become tight in the crotch area.

    The F50 is hideous. The F50 GT is pretty. It’s got that puke ass front end fixed and the lines look so much better without those godawful wing pillars of the regular F50. The cockpit lines look different that the regular F50. It’s practically a different car. Ferrari needs to stop smoking crack with their design. So many of their top tier cars are atrocious looking. Enzo, La Ferrari, FXX, FXX K. These are not good looking cars.
