- I make a fair amount of tomato sauce and I wanted to see if it tasted better made in a blender or a food processor.
My verdict?
Food processor for a less bitty sauce - great for a passata or puree
Blender - uses nearly all of the tomato so would be good for pizza topping etc

Tomato Sauce - Best Made in a Blender or a Food Processor?
I hope you enjoyed this video 🙂. A thumbs-up would be nice but if you leave a thumbs down I’d love to know why.

Take care and stay safe!
I tried the blender technique a very long time ago (maybe 38 years) and didn’t care for the bits. Ironically we made a ton of sauce today. Just waiting for the pressure canner to cool down the rest of the way so that we can take the jars out. That Ninja looks like it could be used to dispose of bodies! Quite the beast! Have a good weekend!
Cheers Irene. The Ninja has a smoothie maker attachment too but that's too healthy for me LOL
@@DigwellGreenfingers can’t be too healthy Steve! Those seeds could sprout inside you - I saw it one the internet 🤣😂😆🤣😁. Your way is much faster than what we do!
Great video on comparison of blenders 🙂
Many thanks. I do prefer the food processed sauce but there is a lot of tomato left behind. I need to grow more LOL
Stay safe and have a good weekend!
So good my friend , I like your videos , full watched , send love and support ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Teşekkür ederim!
Hi Steve, I’ve harvested about 20kg of Tumbler so far and I don’t recall a single one splitting. That’s definitely not the case with the cherry plants in the tunnel, maybe 1 in 4 split. I water the Tumbler less and infrequently, with them being smaller and outside : all the best - Steve
LOL - that's back to front with mine. I guess I'm leaving my Tumblers too long before picking. I've just finished working out the hydroponics for them for next year. it will be interesting to see if the yield goes up or down per plant..
Have a great weekend, Steve!
I think they are basically the same but cool looking to have both 😂😂, blender for all at once processing and food processor for putting in different things or additives during the process (if that makes sense) hence the opening at the top with the push tool. But nice haul of toms for sure. I don’t make sauce direct I cube and freeze then use that for sauces. Thank you for sharing as always ✌️🇨🇦🐝 safe
I normally make all sorts of sauces and freeze them but my freezer is full LOL I have been pressure canning quite a bit this year.
Have a great weekend Ali!
Thanks for sharing 😁👍
Cheers 🍻
Hi Steve
You're lucky to have Tomatoes to make sauce with this year.
My wife cooks them for a while then skins them and freezes until used for sauce, casserole or whatever.
Great video mate.
👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Rob. I do it that way usually but I didn't think that would work for the comparison of the 2 blendings.
Stay safe buddy
A nice one, Steve.
I cut my tomato in half, skinside up and roast them in the oven (big tomatoes, not cherry). Easy to lift the skin off after they have been roasted.
The tomato sauce get a very nice flavour that way, but it’s easier your way I think, if you make sauce with cherry tomatoes.
Best wishes for your weekend.
I do it that way for my roasted tomato soup, Benni. Brilliant!
Stay safe and have a great weekend
Y'know, we don't really make tomato sauce, although it's always good to see how other people do things. We make more of a pasta sauce, cooked and loaded with all the trimmings. Our thinking is that we use what we have when we have it. Both of your methods do look good for sure, certainly pure :-) 🍺
Cheers buddy. I have a few more sauces to make yet but it's a cream of tomato soup next 🍅🍅
Have a good 'un!
Interesting results.
I've just made a tomato soup and used the processor rather than the blender as I didn't want any bits in it.
Great video and looks great
Thank you! Cheers!
Late to the party.. but thanks for this Steve 👍🏻. Will possibly add some diced onion and a bit of garlic 😊
I used to make all different ones but I decided I might not always want, say, shilli, in it so I do a plain sauce now and add basil etc in the cooking. Now this of course is subject to change at vry short notice as my mood fancies! 😂
Have a great week Nigel
Awesome test. I have to admit I tend to cook mine off before blending but it’s just what you’re going to do with it after that depends on that really xox
I cook mine off too Pam but this was really a comparison to see what was left behind. Soup next nonnomnom 🍅🍅
@@DigwellGreenfingers I figured seeing as you seem a rather knowledgeable sort around the kitchen :D :D :D Soup sounds wonderful :D :D :D

@@DigwellGreenfingers lol Big Love my friend xox
Good video Steve comparing tomato sauce made in a food processor with tomato sauce made in a blender and the one best used may depend on what you are using the sauce for. Keep safe and well.
Thanks a lot David.
Have a super weekend!
Nice one Steve, Something to think about when i get more toms :)
Cheers Lee. I've already used one jar in a spag bol!
When you use the blender you make a tomato smoothie for drinking ...when you use the other one it makes a tomato puree...which is slightly thicker...like for dips so it should be lumpy..or have the what you said left overs...I believe
Spot on! In the end I preferred the processor. Even though the blender gave less waste, the mix was quite grainy.
Have a great week!
@@DigwellGreenfingers it's not actual waste tho right? Yes the smoothie is more grainy so you can drink it with out the lumps
The processer is for eating it should be lumpy..technically the water is the waste in the pulp when you use the processer..but it is used still..but as a sauce and not a drink
You would be only drinking tomato flavoured water if you count the pulp as waste...maybe you know this...but as you said ..you don't like it grainy👍
@@leeknoz935 Cheers Lee. It is a bit like a different process for a different outcome really.
No one said cooking was easy LOL - stay safe buddy!
Hi Steve. Thanks for the comparison. Do you always can the tomatoes only or do you also make up. Eg a pasta sauce a d can it. I freeze my pasta sauces bit the freezers full so I’m thinking about canning.
This is my first year canning - same as you, a full freezer LOL. I do make pasta sauces for freezing (and canning in the future) but I prefer to make a plain(ish) sauce so I can turn it into anything when I come to use it.
Have a great weekend Mags!
I hear that where tomatoes are prepared commercially they are left for 15 days before picking to concentrate the flavour.
Pretty sure mine would rot if I left them that long - but they are the big boys so I guess it works for them!
Nice comparison buddy! Both sauces would have their benefits in certain uses. If I had to choose, I'd take the less bitter:))
Cheers Ryan - less bitter for me too (It's what I will use today for tomato soup!)
Stay safe pal
I quite like the Ninja appliances, I have the foodi max. If my Hairy Biker's blender breaks I will definitely be replacing it with the Ninja blender/processor 😁🌱☀️
I stumbled across the Ninja brand when some of the Sage appliances I wanted were out of stock. Yes, very well made and the programming is well thought out. I made my granddaughter a strawberry milkshake after school yesterday and it was perfectly frothy. Not so gassy that it was hard to swallow and not flat - just right!
@@DigwellGreenfingers love a good smoothie, makes me want get one even more now 🤔.....I wonder what Santa will bring me for Christmas? 🤣😁🌱☀️
I always cook my tomatoes before processing so they're softer and some of the water steams off.
Yes, I do it that way usually. The idea of this video was to compare the two methods to see what was left behind, a bit harder to do if I boiled the liquid off first.
Stay safe and have a great weekend!
👍👍🍅🍅✌🍅
Cheers Ron - have a good 'un!
One of my Tom's (not sure which as it's not what was planted - a stray seed in the packet) split on almost all its Tom's, whilst the rest of my Tom's haven't split st all.
Before you tasted it I thought that the blended one would me thicker but less flavour as it has a lower percentage of the flesh in comparison to the seeds.
I'm sure you're trying to bankrupt me - now I NEED a Ninja food processor/blender set
Haha - I'd better put a finance disclaimer on my videos LOL
Maybe that one tomato of yours had a lot thinner skin? Gotta go, tomato soup on the go outside (video coming up 🍅☕.
Have a great week Jason
New here😊 love your channel. I just did this for the first time today and it's pink, did I do it right? Thank you 🌱🍅
Welcome!! Yes, it will be fine - it all depends on the tomato variety that you use. Mine are all shades of pink to red and if I had enough golden tomatoes, I'm sure that I would have a yellow sauce. Note to self -grow more golden toms next year LOL
@@DigwellGreenfingers Okay cool. Great I'll take that note as well. Thank you so much again 🍅🤗🌱
