I know Shannon probably feels like it’s harder for the Leafs to win three in a row in Tampa but this has been a series of teams getting tight during key stretches in front of their fans. That’s not new for the Leafs but is a new phenomenon for the Lightning.
Samsonov's save /goal ratio was not 34/38, as 1 goal was an empty netter, perhaps 34/37 plus one empty net goal. Agreed that the second goal should have been stopped as it was from bad angle and was misplayed. Nevertheless he did make a number of good saves keeping the game within reach for the Maple Leafs.
People forget that TO was losing the last two games until very late in the game, it's not like they have been stomping Tampa, they've had to get lucky twice in a row, but tonight they didn't.
I think toronto's mental block is just too strong man. I don't think there is anything Keefe could say to his superstars to help them. They are missing the most important attribute when it comes to playoff hockey, and that is "Confidence" they have none. They are under immense pressure from the fanbase, Dubas, Keefe, and most importantly themselves.
3 things Keefe has to figure out: -how to get his stars engaged for the full 60. Marner was overthinking and overpassing it. Matthews and Nylander were always going wide and afraid to cut through the middle to create anything -how to deal with Tampa's neutral zone dominance. Leafs are not doing much 5 on 5 by playing dump and chase. They're lucky to be up 3-2 with how Tampa has been the better team. -how to delete whatever Holl is using to blackmail him into playing. Does he have his nudes...??? Seriously, the Gio-Holl pairing has been brutal and there is no logical reason why Holl should stay in over Liljegren.
As a life long leafs fan, it’s hard not to feel that the series is over. It’s so ridiculous there are two games left. How many times does this have to happen. Definition of Insanity lol
I’ll probably post this again in the final playoff recap, but I think it would be awesome if you did interview videos in the off season with some of the TH-camrs that cover their home teams, like Flying Fluffy for the Panthers. As a Leafs fan, it’s scary to think that if they played the full 60 minutes on Monday, they’d be up 3-2 instead of us. That’s why it frustrates me when people say we should feel good about where we are just because we’re ahead. It’s not as simple as you may think, just because you’re ahead doesn’t mean you were dominating for most of the series, and it certainly doesn’t mean you have what it takes to win the 4th.
To knock out Tampa you have to give up only 1 or 0 goals because Vasi wont let you score more than 2 in the back part of a series. Playing in Tampa may help the leafs in a weird way, it helped my Avs last year and playing at home has been a nightmare for everyone all playoffs. Either way im not going to say the Leafs choked because beating Tampa is proving to be nearly impossible
Non call: Marner was tripped & Maroon got a minor for what Clifford got suspended for. The fans can complain all they want. The players have to respond & find a way. 88 was 88⭐
True, but if the Bolts were to somehow lose this series, it would be their own fault. You don’t hockey games by playing for 50 minutes, you win by playing the full 60. Tampa Bay realized this after their epic game 4 collapse and made sure not to replicate it again. Tampa looks dialled in, so it’ll be a taller task than some people may think to knock of the Bolts, and this is coming from a Leafs fan. If we get to game 7, we’re finished.
@@HunterMagunter exactly. Toronto needs to clean up their overall game if they expect to go far. Sometimes you can get away with playing spotty for 50 or so minutes and comeback, but you can’t do that consistently in the playoffs.
Other than losing to the Avs in the SCF, the Lightning are like Dracula, they're almost impossible to put down. And the Leafs, the franchise that hasn't won a playoff round since '04 and the Cup since '67, find themselves in the role of Van Helsing. If the Leafs don't win in Tampa, they're probably not winning in Toronto.
Game 6: Vasilevskiy gets a shutout at home. The Leafs get rattled. Game 7: The Leafs score first, telling themselves that they can still get past him -- then ultimately lose 2-1, at home, in game 7, again.

I’d argue the urgency was missing in games 3 and 4 too. Sure they won but as we learned from the Panthers last season, the comeback is not viable in the long term.

It's crazy how it was written in the stars. When the Leafs won Game 5 in OT in a dramatic fashion, I could see their fans acting like they had won the Cup, once again. They went back to saying how it's "their year", how there's no way they can lose, how the Bolts are done, Vasi is washed, how this team is different... I kept thinking : "Don't celebrate too soon, you still haven't won the series. You're going back to bad habits." And sure enough, what happens ? Bolts shut them down and all the big players are nowhere to be seen. I don't know what's wrong with Marner, but in elimination games, he is absolutely garbage, yet in any other circumstances, he's one of the most complete players in the league. I'm a Habs and Knights fan, nowhere near a Leafs fan, and even I am fed up with this team. Every year is Leafs' year, yet every year since 2017, they find a way to embarrass themselves further. Really wanted to cheer them on, feeling for their fanbase, though. I don't see them winning Game 6 in Tampa either and I sure don't see them winning Game 7. But who knows, maybe this team finally shows up to adversity...
Marner is my favourite player and despite his detractors legitimately a generational player alongside McDavid who obviously is the No. 1 player in the world. I dream to see them play on the same team. The two are a testament to Canadian hockey in different ways. That being said, Marner needs to exorcise his demons this series or forever be stained by the loss.

I am looking forward to some Monday night action.
Said by everyone except Leaf fans.
For every Leafs smug there is a slightly-unequal and opposite un-smug
3 things Keefe has to figure out:
-how to get his stars engaged for the full 60. Marner was overthinking and overpassing it. Matthews and Nylander were always going wide and afraid to cut through the middle to create anything
-how to deal with Tampa's neutral zone dominance.
That was frustrating
Thank you TML. Almost there💔🔨
I’ll probably post this again in the final playoff recap, but I think it would be awesome if you did interview videos in the off season with some of the TH-camrs that cover their home teams, like Flying Fluffy for the Panthers. Nothing crazy, just a zoom call where you guys go through 3-4 talking points. It would send viewers both ways and be a lot of fun for people who watch both channels.
Vasilevskiy heating up is super scary for Toronto. Toronto need to learn how to pull the trigger and deliver a killing blow, but every time they could eliminate a team they fall apart
He didn't heat up. The Leafs just stopped doing what was effective.
@@tyronebiggums69 Or Tampa adjusted in this game.
@@tyronebiggums69 did not cycle it to the blue for boomers nearly enough... if you don't want to do that then just crash the net like Viking beserkers.
Holl is a total liability
Finally someone in these comments said it, thank you!
Just keep fighting ⚡️
The choke is real.
If we can just get it to 7 ... we got this. The pressure on the leafs will be astronomical.
Imagine if every series goes to game 7...
Not a chance, the jets are going home tonight
Based on how absolutely dog shit the New York Rangers played today, I'm guessing they're probably going home in game six.
My heart can't take it, lol.
The jets are stinking up the playoffs but I could see the other series going to 7
Currently 3-0 vegas with 5 minutes played in the second smh
Let the meltdown begin.
You know it's bad when the broadcast of the game ends with, "19 years, and counting....." 😂
One of the hardest things to do in sports is to exorcise your demons of any kind. At some point, this is something the Leafs have to accomplish....
As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, I wholeheartedly agree
If they’re following in the Cubs footsteps they’ve got a few decades to go.
Reading some of these comments has me shaking my head. This was game 5,,,,not game 6, not game 7. I'm a true fan of this team, and this series isn't over until someone wins 4 games.
I so appreciate these.
Let’s go bolts, we’re not done yet.
Down 3-1 to the Maple Leafs....
You got em right where you want em 🤣🤣🤣
@@cheaboiMWA don’t remember saying they do, also it’s 3-2 moron.
The noose is tightening
What does Keefe see in Justin Holl?
Once a series is on the line Vasilevskiy is a god. Next 2 games are going to be crazy
Great game by the Bolts tonight. Finally played for 50+ minutes this time.
@@Killa_Zman20 The Leafs would've won this game had Tampa won game 4. Then they'd proceed to lose the series in 7. Just like they will as it is now.
@@lukaz3336 I’m afraid so.
Good thing I have that cup for the crotch punch.
Lol
Here we go again 😂
Welcome back!
Avs have the advantage of that altitude conditioning… they can go into other teams barns and skate circles around them
You don't win a lot of money betting against Tampa, it's like betting against a Brady lead team.
Vasilevskiy has let in 3 goals, 7 goals, 4 goals, and 5 goals.
@@taylorwoolston8856 he let in 2 today, and the goals he gives up early in the series are meaningless all that does is piss him off
@@LizardSkin A sea level Seattle team is giving them fits.
All I know is pain.
Will there ever be a time when the Leaves have won three games in a series and don't shit the bed?
Non call: Marner was tripped & Maroon got a minor for what Clifford got suspended for. The fans can complain all they want. The players have to respond & find a way. 88 was 88⭐
That first goal that Tampa scored, was all because of Hagel
They didn't do enough to shut down Hagel
Leafs have played a collective 12 good minutes in the last 3 games
True, but if the Bolts were to somehow lose this series, it would be their own fault. You don’t hockey games by playing for 50 minutes, you win by playing the full 60. Tampa Bay realized this after their epic game 4 collapse and made sure not to replicate it again. Tampa looks dialled in, so it’ll be a taller task than some people may think to knock of the Bolts, and this is coming from a Leafs fan. If we get to game 7, we’re finished.
@Killa Zman same goes for the leafs, if they win this round they're toast. You don't play 5 minutes a game and expect to win anything
That's not true. They played well in this game for the duration of it, for the most part. Much better ironically than they did in games 3 and 4.
@Luka Z they couldn't even get in tampas end until the 3rd, idk what game you watched. Aside from rielly scoring early they were a joke
It begins.
Game 6: Vasilevskiy gets a shutout at home. The Leafs get rattled.
Game 7: The Leafs score first, telling themselves that they can still get past him -- then ultimately lose 2-1, at home, in game 7, again.
if I was a leafs fan I would end myself if this happens
*Leafs score first, but almost immediately after let in a super soft goal, and then the winner comes off a scramble in front of the net where they were not intense enough in clearing the puck.
Nailed it
@@stevendchu and one of those two Lightning goals needs to come in the last minute of a period.
@@mitchellg3893 I've had this thought before... has a Leafs fan killed themselves due to the Leafs losing a series being the straw that broke the camel's back?
Reilly's goal tonight will be remembered as the highest point for the Leafs and their fans in this series. Bolts are in control now.
They have been in control most of the series, and yet if they make a mistake, their season could easily be over. Leafs fans will still have much to cheer (and bitch and moan) about this post-season
Looks like their series against Montreal all over again....
Yeah it really does.
Maroon should have gotten a 5 minute penalty.
Refs definitely did screw the Leafs. Then no call on Rielly being tripped in the 3rd.
They need more urgency early. Too little too late this game
I’d argue the urgency was missing in games 3 and 4 too. Sure they won but as we learned from the Panthers last season, the comeback is not viable in the long term.
You just can’t make it up. They’re the Dallas Cowboys of the NHL but even the Cowboys have more first round victories 😵
In the famous words of Steve Dangle: "....And of course it's the Leafs."
We all know how this is going to end now.
Just gotta win two more. Felt like the bolts have been the better team for the majority of this series we just gotta play a full 60. Credit to the leafs for capitalizing but we gotta keep playing hard for a full 60 to win this series. GO BOLTS!!⚡️⚡️⚡️
Man, that Tampa alternate looks cool.
oh, and uh, the leafs blew it, oh no, uh, line.
Thanks but we dont need a recap, we still remember past years.
Well to say I wasn't surprised would be a lie. Esymonts best game so far and a few depth players like Paul with a goal.
Crazy how comfortable he looked out there. Should play him again next game
i wasn't even 2 years old when the leafs last won a playoff series, and now i'm 20 and going into my third year of university, never having seen my favourite team in the second round of the playoffs. they can't lose this one. they can't.
I’m afraid if they get to game 7, they will lose. Best bet they have is to close it out in 6.
Ans so it begins. Either Toronto chokes as usual or finally makes it passed the 1st round. Go Leafs.
Go kraken
@@LizardSkin Go the Seattle team with 30 fans? Oof.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 that’s how many you’ll have after everyone jumps off the bandwagon:0 first round exit coming up no kadri to carry your team anymore
I am eagerly the annual leafs collapse.
Clearly the rule this year is that teams are not allowed to close out a series in 5.
Vegas will
Unless you’re the Vegas Golden Knights. As a Jets fan, that one hurts.
@@Killa_Zman20 well hey no shame in losing to a team like Vegas, at least made things interesting by winning game 1!
@@richardjohndrow3365 yeah, it just hurts because we didn’t have our full lineup most of the series, so just knowing we could’ve done more in the series hurts.
@@Killa_Zman20 I'm confused because I was told Jets would be a dynasty if they just got rid of Maurice
I shouldn't be surprised by now. Game 5 is usually when we start falling apart
Still hoping Leafs take this, just because surely they and their fans have earned at least a bit of joy after suffering for so long, but I don't know man. This series has got that familiar stench about it now. Game six, Tampa is going to be at home, and Leafs will be extremely nervous about wanting to end it before game seven. And, god forbid, if it goes to game seven...
Like what did we do to suffer this badly, it’s not even for the cup it’s just one round!
@@Hockeyhobo89 It's baffling. Common wisdom says it's because the fanbase is so diehard, which creates too much pressure for them to handle and too many distractions for them to ignore. But even still, surely they have to win at some point.
@@Peksisarvinen exactly, look at game 7’s alone. They’re mathematically supposed to be a coin toss but who loses 6 in a row?
Did you check in of Stevie Dangs after this one?
Toronto just can't lose this series.
There is no way..
I'm pretty sure that's Sideshow Bob from the episode where he dresses as Krusty to rob the Kwik-E-Mart
Correction Samsonov saved 34-37 not 38 cause of the empty netter.
…Anyone else think game 6 is the last chance for the Leafs?
Tick....tick......💥
...now they can bring back Bunting...
If anyone can break the curse it is him.
Playing right into Tampa's hands
Lol Bunting is more liability than asset
@@kftc1980 lol
I think 2 things happen if that comes to fruition..
1. They get a boost of confidence
2. Any confidence they MIGHt have even had, gets thrown out the window, and the players realize "Oh shit, this is desperation mode".
Samsonov saved 34 out of 37 shots. The 38th shot was an empty net goal.
I am not worried. Tampa is not going to win three in a row against a much better Leafs team🎉
Toronto is going to have to dig deep within themselves to continue this series...which is what Champions have to do to...Tampa has already learned this lesson well. I'm hoping for seven games. ;)
Any news on Černák for game 6?
Likely won’t play because this is his 3rd concussion in his career and you don’t want to mess around with that. He may play but I wouldn’t plan on it
No way. Last person to die in an NHL game was second impact syndrome
Samsonov and Vanacek looking like when they were in D.C.
It's over! 😂 But ya. There was that 1 good come back... 😅
