    I was in the Operation Storm in Petrinja. I'm sorry for the Danish soldiers, but make no mistake about it, Croats would do it all over again if they had to.

    Operation Storm is a perfect example of a blitzkrieg. If 4 years prior, Vukovar was Croatia's own Thermopylae battle, Orija was the equivalent of the Battle of Palataea.

      KVD11MV4 not really, gen. Stipetić already denied that multiple times because there was a lot of conspiracy theorie claims and still are from the Serbian side. The only thing bought from the US were drone pictures of the area, which were later put to good use.
      Another thing that the US provided was the attack on Udbina airstrip, after what they believed was I think an attack on Sarajevo, rendering the planes there useless, which were a thorn in Croatian side. Operation Storm was won in central Bosnia and on Dinara. The operations leading up to it, are the reason for the quick success of Operation Storm. It was the decision of Croats to get heavy guns on Dinara and tanks there to have both a dominant position and an element of surprise. It's also noticeable that Kordun held out for a longer period of time, because they were dug in and Croats made tactical mistakes, which after reorganising the attack that followed the old plan that was practised, again, Croatian doing.

    UN troops had a task to ensure peace in so named "serbian krajina" which was Croatian territory. Under UN (including danish troops) "protection" during 4 years in "krajina" Serbs killed over 1.000 civilians and continued constant artillery attacks on free parts of Croatia. After 4 years Croatians said : ok enough is enough. By the way Mr. Guldhammer you can not put a blame on Croatian forces for Dvor massacre.This is just not fair. There are witnesses claiming that was a crime made by serbian troops during their withdrawal. One more thing is important for you to know: 24 hours before operation Storm all foreign countries which had a soldiers as part of UN in occupied parts of Croatia received warning in order to remove their soldiers from dangerous points. Some countries did it.

      @ Mr. Guldhammer. As Croatian vet I can say that UN forces failed but I am not blaming You. I understand that You just followed Your orders just as I followed mine. Reasons why UN and NATO allowed Serbs to commit serious war crimes are political. As citizen of Croatia which is now member of NATO and EU (they were our goals from beginning) I can only say to You thanks for Your service in my country without sarcasm . I really mean it. Don't forget that war always begin when first side think that is stronger than other side. We were other side. All the best to You.

      To date, it is not clear whether it was Serbian, Croatian or autonomous soldiers who were behind the massacre in Dvor. The Danish UN company commander in Dvor felt let down by the Un system for not intervening.
      He did not have the capacity to intervene without having his soldiers annihilated.
      My own assessment is that I would think that it was autonomous soldiers who did it.
      In those days there were quite a few autonomous soldiers from both sides who committed some horrific assaults.
      I our Camp we were locked form continuous bombardments and tank attack and only had capacity to protect the camp

      Actually the Serbian troops were the ones that we had far the most confrontations with. They did not like us being in the area. That being said we had a good professional relationship with a lot of both Serbian at Croat soldiers. The non Serbs that lived in the area was in general ok. The ones we knew of we did some extra paroles to make sure they where ok. There was a few incidents where we had to step in to help
      Mostly they where very poor so we also helped with extra food and clothes

    from my uncle who was a member of the Croatian army in this area, I heard that the Serbs were beaten by heavy artillery positions Danish UNPROFOR to halt further progression of the Croatian military operation in Bosnia counted toward to the center of Banja Luka!! This would dream of creating a Greater Serbia was completely collapsed, what they are today, even though the Serb controlled part of Bosnia center.

      Morten Christiansen What I know is that Croats have a right to have their national identity. I know that to Scandinavians and other Western Europeans we are a bunch of same little unimportant Slavs but it's a little different down here. The war has passed into history, life is quiet now and we go on with our daily lives as the rest as anyone in Europe. We are trying to forget the horrors and just move on.

    • @vinceredk
      @vinceredk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Danish UN perspective definitely neutral. And always on the civilian side. But very hard not to have the power to intervene some times. Especially in Biha’c refugee camp where it was tempting to take active part in the war

    • @mortenc2373
      @mortenc2373 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the United Nations not only EU that went inside to try and help, and it is always a hard task to help in a country that is trying to kill each others... You can always look back and find things that could have been handled better for sure, that could have stopped the Srebrenica killings but they had their orders at that time and some of the UN soldiers took their own life because of what happend there, just imagine being a Dutch soldier and ordered to let the Serbs in the area and later on find out what happend = the killing of +8000 humans.
