    Del, I knew you were the right person to build my CBG. I know it was "one string to many" but it sounds exactly as I hoped it would. There are some lonesome blues sounds floating around in a guy's head, and that extra string will be very prominent. You're an amazing luthier and thank you so much for taking on my project!
    Thanks,
    Tony

      Yeeesssss! I asked him about a month or two ago to make one 'cuz I thought it would be cool. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Maybe this is his first step towards building one. I might try to build one, too.

      you can re-string a strat or les for that. And replace the body with a large cigar box

      @@-jank-willson good idea. With the scale lengths about the same, that shouldn't be too difficult to put together. Just might have to try that, too.

    Ah! I see you did what I was going to suggest when you said you needed to get the strings lower behind the nut but the screw eyes wouldn’t go in any farther. You turned two of the eyes to parallel with the neck and passed a nail through them to hold the strings down. That lowered the strings by the diameter of the nail, so you can tweak it simply by using a different nail. It’s a neat and simple solution!
    I think I like the humbucker sound best, and I love the paired strings. I might have to try that…

    I. Absolutely agree Del, 4 strings is one too many ! To my mind a chord is three notes however and this beautiful CBG has a double string so this gitty is fine 😆 ❤

  • @cmdrerniepaul
    @cmdrerniepaul ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice tone! Love the double on the high end. For years, my thrift-store mandolin was missing a tuner, so I moved it to the bass string, and kept all the highs doubled. I may try this with one of my future builds.

    Have the same „Padron“ box too, and want to put the pickups from a telecaster kit in that 4-string CBG. The neck will be out of a replacement axe handle, as fret marker some 1€cent and 5€c. Tuner, bridge, switch and pots I have because I upgraded parts on guitars.

    Hey Del! Long time, no speak!! Quick question if I may?
    I’ve currently got my first flying bridge build on the bench (been on the bench too long, but there’s a reason for that) and it’s a four with the double treble string too. My question is with your string gauges that you listed, and whether they’re rated for G tuning and tuned down to E, whether you’re tuned and strung to/for E or what-have-you?
    Just back from my stay in hospital after a stroke so I’m going to be off guitar playing for a while so I’ll probably turn this build into a “played across the lap” type ala Mountain Dulcimer style until the strength returns. Scared the Scotch-watsamacallit out of the wife but I think she’s forgiven/forgiving me for it 😐.
    Stay primal, stay awesome, Mr Puckett!!

    I've been mucking about with my last build, a resonator git-fiddle that I built to use as many as 5 strings with high and middle double coursed. I've never strung it up though with more than the usual 3. I love the sound you got with the high string doubled. I think it's about time to restring the git-fiddle (CBG with a violin body instead of a cigar box)

      @JonahVex ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! I started on 6 so 4 shouldn't be so bad but maybe I'll just start with 3 for my first one.. also have a nerd question.. do you know anything about scale length ÷ 18 (17.82 or 17.817) for fretting?

    Hi Del, great videos as always. Please can you tell me if the two lightest strings, (the ones you have doubled up a bit like a twelve string) are both tuned the same or are they in harmony with each other like twelve string tuning. Many thanks.

    Hi Del ! I'm on my 3rd build and wanted to ask you a question : when it's time to attach and screw the neck, do you just eyeball it to align it, or have you got a… let's say, more mathematical method, with a square or something. Thanks !

  • @geoffsides408
    @geoffsides408 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Okay.... Here we have a 3 string format with 4 strings (btw it sounds great).. What if you made a 3 string format cdg with 6 strings like a 12 string guitar.....I had this idea a while back but I'm not able to attempt it due to some heath issues
