Graham was going to physically collapse and suffer the consequences of his addictions one way or the other. Even if they had kept him as champion, it wouldn't have lasted.

I heard that his addictions got much worse after he lost the belt and didn't really care. Perhaps if he kept the belt he would have made a greater effort to hold things together.

I agree with Jim Turner. Even though Graham was drawing well. It was agreed that Billy was going to be a short term champion. Unfortunately, his body was starting to breakdown from his abuse of steroids. Besides, he wouldn’t have last long as a face champ. Vince Sr wanted to go with a throwback to Thesz and Lewis with Backland and Skaaland.

tony garea had movie star looks should have been trying to be a actor to get actors union med benefits because wrestling has no union he reminded me of actor victor mature . jeese ventura made movie predator n got into actors union. he found out selfish huckster hogan ratted his union attempt to mcmahon when steroids trial

Billy Graham and Razor Ramon were terrible wrestlers from a technical standpoint. MSG would draw a sellout for WWWF no matter who was on the card.

Jim Cornette and others have offered the theory that Billy Graham was so emotionally fragile that taking away the WWWF title from him caused him to fall into depression, mental illness and drug abuse. That he so needed the title belt for his personal self-esteem that he couldn't function without it.
