- Today I will be discussing STELLARLUNE CHAPTER 42. (SPOILERS)
Chapter 42 is most famously known for being the first ever SOKEEFE KISS SCENE! Today I will be thoroughly discussing Sokeefe in Stellarlune -- the moments leading up to and the confession itself. I have been rooting for Sokeefe forever and so Chapter 42 of Stellarlune will hold a special place in my heart.

I read spell around when I’d only gotten as far as Flashback. Made total sense. Proves how much filler is in this…I HAVE EVIDENCE: MY BRAIN
I don’t know WHAT I’m talking about but all that up there is true-
eyy ch 42 was just really surreal. it was really sweet and genuine between sophie and keefe. sophie's crush on fitz was so shallow, it's like the equivalent of someone having a crush on a celebrity. even as a 7th grader when i first started reading kotlc, i would just cringe whenever sophie started thinking about how perfect fitz looked.
I began to read the books when I was twelve and honestly I didn’t think about it that much, but going back and reading them again I have this same reaction to it🤔🫠
I started reading kotlc when I was 9 and I shipped sofitz until I was 11 and I just reread all the books and now I cringe at the sofitz moments
oh my god i used to look at sophie and was like "okay girl i will just talk about how you have the stupidest crush literally just cos someone is hot. " LIKE I DONT EVEN HAVE CRUSHES ON GUYS THAT BAD EVEN IF THEYRE CELEBRRITIES
Fitz saw Sophie as a perfect girl and Keefe accepted her imperfections and loves her for them.
On the flip side, Sophie also saw Fitz as perfect. They were always mentioning his perfect eyes teeth and hair, but when Sophie looks at keefe she sees his messy hair and messy personality and accepts him for it
Fitz wasn’t trying to mentally edit Sophie. Fitz genuinely accepted Sophie, and often when you love someone like that, you see them as perfect. Keefe definitely put Sophie on a pedestal. So did Fitz.

I was actually crying as well 😂 but also, my favorite bit had to be the part when Flori walks in, Sophie glances back at Keefe, she’s a bit nervous, and Keefe just smirks and blows her a kiss. It’s the first time in the book that Keefe has really been KEEFE, because of all his angst and new powers and stuff, and it was so- *melts*
When Sophie saw how Fitz pictured, as an absolutely perfect lady, I kinda felt bad for her. Like, she already has SOOOO much pressure on her, she doesn't need Fitz's unrealistic expectations. While in Keefe's drawing, he sees her as her, and doesn't try to pressure her into being someone she's not. Anyways, TEAM FOSTER-KEEFE forever!!

As soon as I reached chapter 42, I was like, Oh. My. God....... ITS HAPPENING!!!!! I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS MOMENT FOR SO LONG!!!!! I think I teared up a little. I kinda was expecting it to be a liiiiiiiittle bit more romantic but then again, the book is more for middle schoolers so I guess its fine. BUT KEEFE'S, 'Please don't let me mess this up' line was the MOST ADORABLE THING ON EARTH. Honestly. My heart literally exploded right then and there. P.S i am writing this before I watch the video cause I wanna say my opinion now before I hear yours LoL. Also, Fitz ligit having a heart-attack when he find out about them, made me laugh so hard. Tbh, he should have seen it coming and I genuinely don't think he deserves Sophie. I don't give a damn if he is trying to change and thinks they could be something in the future, he has given her so many reasons not to be with him and how he dosen't care about her feelings. Anyway, thats my little rant for the day. Well, I will watch the video now! :) bye guys!

when I read it I literally threw my book and sat in silence for a whole 15 minutes and just stared at it and then my eyes literally started tearing up. omg I was literally so happy! I was also like shaking omgggg.

LOLLLLLL I DID THE SAME THING! Well, I didn’t throw the book. Just sat there for an hour or so having a party in my brain.
When I began reading this series, way back in 2018, I was a hardcore Fitzphie shipper. It wasn’t until I read Legacy when I realized that Fitz wasn’t the best one for Sophie, and it wasn’t until I read Unlocked when I realized that Keefe and Sophie were meant for each other!
I’m proud of Sophie (is it weird to be proud of a fictional character??) for figuring out her feelings and being brave enough to confess them to Keefe. Anyway, those are my thoughts. :)

I actually read chapter 42 earlier today while I was packing, so I think you guys have amazing timing! Every time I read Sophie’s confession I just cry fr, Shannon has had us on quite the ride, finally ending up here😭😭😭
But Edaline making Sophie repeat after her “I am a person, I am allowed to take time for myself” had me sobbing so hard I had to put the book down. Bc I see myself in Sophie so much, and that scene reminded of all the pep talks my mom has given to me. If Shannon Messenger sees this, I want you to know that your story and it’s characters mean SO MUCH to me and Stellarlune is the most amazing book I have ever read, and I felt like I was in a therapy session reading Sophie’s journey and THANK U THANK U THANK U!

the last comment troy read was so beautiful in that it connects to the scene where sophie sees keefe's drawing of her and fitz doing their cognate exercise where she said she looked like herself? in that moment its like a new theme blooms of not only her and keefe complimenting each other when they combine as a couple, but just him helping sophie really believe edalines affirmations without even realizing it. it makes their whole relationship in the series just that much sweeter yk?
My prayers have been answered. Tbh, this was what i was waiting for from the beginning of the series. Every time Sophie was talking about how perfect Fitz was, i was like NO WHAT ABOUT KEEFE and finally I have what i want. Btw, love ur nails :)
I was so happy when I read chapter 42! It’s definitely my favorite chapter in stellarlune. When I told my friend (who has never read kotlc) she was like “cool” and I was like “do you know how huge this is! SOKEEFE IS HAPPENING”. Also I really hope we can see a bunch more sokeefe and some more interactions with their other friends

OwO I feel like after this chapter we’ll look back on the series and see even MORE times sokeefe was obvious (I mean it was the whole series, but more like the little things that will now become big things) and we’ll be able to happily re read the series knowing it’s settled. This whole book just made me so happy. I also starting reading KOTLC in middle school, and I am only one semester away from graduating high school. I think Chapter 42 and Sokeefe becoming canon, mixed with the senior year feels made the whole experience even more emotional lol

Honestly, Sokeefe is meant to be. Fitz is meant to be a telepathy partner for Sophie, nothing more. Her telling Fitz that she kissed Keefe and not putting off telling him confirmed that for me.

Hi, I’m new to your channel, but I’ve been reading KotLC for a couple of years at this point. My Taylor Swift infested brain started singing Anti-Hero right as you said it lol. I too did cry when Sokeefe happened, I then called up all my friends and started screaming at them. The only one that cared was my friend who also reads the series. I also may or may not have thrown a copy of flashback into my pool screaming “the torture that is Sofitz is over”…..
Lol when I finished Flashback I was like “what I just read was 20% fighting, 10% drama, and 70% Sofitz🤮🤮🤮

shannon did such a beautiful job of building up the plot to this point where sophie finally expresses everything she feels for keefe. tbh i could not believe it was actually happening!
sophie and keefe are so sweet and real and precious, and everything about their relationship fits together so well. im so glad sophie realized fitz was just a celebrity crush, but keefe was someone she loved. even if it took a while to get this chapter, i want to say it was my favorite in stellarlune, and it was so well worth the wait. 😭🤍

Kotlc has become one of my favorite book series since middle school. I have many opinions about Fitz and how his character has been shaped. To put it simply he is a 5 year old in a teenager's body. I loved the slow build up to ch. 42 and how perfectly human it was. Just like any high schooler telling his/her crush their feelings for them. That's what I love the most about kotlc, even though it's a fantasy there are still so many elements of realism. Of course like many readers I have many opinions and thoughts in the series and individual books. But focusing on Stellar-lune, Sophie's and Keefe's relationship is 100% healthy and they will have their ups and downs like they have had before but they just know each other so well. They are a lot similar then they realise. (This would be so much easier of I could just talk about it, lol.) But yeah these are just some of my thoughts, sorry of they are a bit caotic or any miss spells. Also confessions can still be grand, beautiful and perfect without it being a big huge moment. Simplisity is sometimes enough.
I genuinely just loved reading ch. 42. It was so cute and it was great to finally have SoKeefe happen after all the waiting to see if it was even possible. Stellarlune is definitely one of my favourite books (along with neverseen) and I’m very impatient for book 10.
Chapter 42 i think just shows the true emotions with keefe not being able to tell how sofie felt and she got to tell him on her own i think just shows the raw emotion. I think this will head the series in the best direction it could sokeefe wise.

I loved this video! I totally agree with you about where the place was and I wouldn't have that chapter any way else. I think it was a perfect chapter even though it felt like it flew by It really didn't. Shannon Messenger has totally built up to this point and has made Sophie emotionally ready. During this chapter I read a little then ran down stairs squealing telling my sister about it. I did this all the way through the chapter and I was so shocked I was not ready to go read the rest and had to calm down for a minute I didn't want to finish it to fast I wanted to enjoy the chapter. Great video! 42!
i speed read stellarlune in like 6 hours in the middle of the night so when i finished and went to sleep i woke up a few hours later and thought chapter 42 was a dream 😭 it took me a while to proccess that it was not but the build up was amazing omg ❤💞💖💓💕❤💖

also around 9:22 i definitely agree that im glad the scene wasnt so unrealistic/perfect because sophie and keefe s relationship wasnt supposed to be unrealisticaly perfect and how keefe saw her as she was whereas when sophie and fitz were supposed to kiss it resembeled how he saw her as 100% perfect !! i love small details like those
I feel the exact same about this! Troy said “it felt like a fanfic, but in Shannon’s writing” BRILLIANT LINE BTW, and I was very happy that Keefe’s empathy was turned off so he couldn’t feel Sophie’s emotions, it just made the scene so much more intimate and realistic ahhh, I’m crying just thinking about it. Fitz would put Sophie into uncomfortable mindsets and pressured her when she wanted to ignore things (like her parents and the match list, blah blah blah) BUT KEEFE HAS NEVER EVER DONE THAT TO HER. HE HAS ALWAYS HEARD HER OUR AND ASKED HER OPINION. KEEFE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN TRULY, DEEPLY, UNFATHOMABLY LOVE SOPHIE

I get really invested when I read, but I rarely show actual emotions out loud (If that makes sense) but the status of me that day...Jaw:Dropped, Eyes:In Tears, Serotonin:Through The Roof. I've never been so happy and I couldn't stop grinning and my sis was giving me weird looks so I told her what happened and she was happy too I think (she doesn't read keeper but I rant to her a lot so she's as invested in the fandom as she can be without having read anything and she too ships Team Foster-Keefe).

When I read chapter 42, I to felt like it was rushed no matter how many times I re-read it. The beautiful thing about it is that it almost makes sense as to WHY: Keefe and Sophie never really settle down; their lives are so twisted up in unexpected incidents and disruptions that having a quiet moment is almost unnatural. Now, that being said, once or twice they have had a sit-down calm moment. Even then, they tend to just jump back into things whether intentionally or not. I don't think a 'quiet, slow moment' is even possible for these two until everything calms down once and for all. Overall, I think this scene is perfect insofar as it's right for Sophie and Keefe specifically. Thank you, Shannon!

Upon reading chapter 42, I took a minute to process surreal joy, then promptly messaged my friend to read Stellarlune
When the Foster Oblivion ended and also during Chapter 42, I had to put the book down and I literally ran around my house screaming and jumping up and down 😆Sokeefe forever!!!!
So here were my 2 different versions of how I thought Sokeefe would happen. The first one is basically how it happened. She realizes her feelings, she confesses, they kiss, SOKEEFE IS CANON!!!🤩
My other one is more epic. So Keefe learned some songs during his time in the Forbidden Cities and asks Sophie to meet him outside Havenfield. He starts singing "A Thousand Years" for her and Sophie knows this song and realizes her feelings and starts singing with him. Then they kiss. 😍
I feel like the second one may be a little too much... 😅🥰 I really liked the confession we got. I even clapped for Keefe when he said the Councillors can feed their match lists to the Gorgodon. It shows that he just wants her and doesn't care about what people say. 😍😍🤩🤩😊😊😁
Yeah! That was one of the main reasons that my mom and brother switched to Team Foster-Keefe in Legacy, they saw that Fitz was making a big deal about Sophie being Unmatchable while Keefe couldn’t have cared less 😄

That keefe line was pretty great
I loved this moment because I never saw it coming and it definitely felt like reading fanfiction. I love how it built up to her feelings throughout the whole book and how they both seem like themselves as it happened. Also, I still feel a little bad for Fitz the way he found out. Sure, Fitzphie wasn’t great, but that still must’ve been hard to hear when he had just told Sophie he still liked her. But I’m so glad Sokeefe happened! In the best and most natural way possible!
This was the best chapter. My bestie is a KOTLC fan too (I got her into it) and she hasn't gotten to 42 yet. I'm so mad at her because it's taking her forever. Honestly I screeched when I read that chapter and my mom asked me if I was ok. (I love your nail polish btw)

I just LOVED chapter 42. My friend was lending me the books throughout the series and i read them all this year, but from the beginning she told me "im so exited for you to read chapter 42" so it wasnt as much of a suprise to me for most, but i definitely did a lot of happy squealing. Also, i noticed the heartstopper book in the back just now lol 🤨🤨💅🏻💅🏻
i shipped them in fricken 2nd grade, now im a 7th grader and im serious when this book came i dropped all exam studying and paid my family 15. bucks to let me stay up reading it. It was so worth it as a broke 13 year old. I was crying so hard at lik 1in the morning

I loved chapter 42 one of my fav things about it is that keefe usually relies on his ability to know if people were telling the truth but he had to trust Sophie when she confessed to him and just trust on her instead I really loved that part
OMG I loved this chapter so much! I first read it on the bus to school, my friend was like are you okay. I was so happy it finally happened. I just started reading this series back in October but lots of my friends who told me to read it said like Keefe not Fitz. If I’m being honest at first I was like “Fitz okay kinda cute” but then I was like no “SoKeefe forever”. Fitz is truly toxic, he doesn’t do anything good for Sophie. Keefe and Sophie can do amazing thing together.
I'm a new kotlc fan here and while I'm reading book 2 I was already obsessed and kept searching for spoilers / fan discussions / basically any kotlc content and when I read chapter 42 in class I knew it was coming but I was still super nervous. I read the first few lines and I was like 'wait this is chapter 42? Omgggggg this is it' and I didn't know if I should scream or laugh or cry it was just so perfect.... And after the lesson I immediately ran to my friends who are kotlc fans and screaming with joy hehehehe
btw I had to wait for 2 weeks for Stellarlune (someone borrowed it from the school library, there was only one copy and they renewed it) it was absolute torture so I decided to read online version :)))))
Yes I think that is all true although I would like to add me peace here since I missed the community post, I love them and I love the way there kids was done I liked that it wasn’t trying to be this big unforgettable moment it was just them raw and truly themselves and I loved that I think it makes everything so much sweeter. I also think what you said about Fitz is true I think the problem is that he doesn’t like her he likes the idea of her where as with Keefe he loves Sophie unconditionally flaws and all. And I personally don’t think you can call it rushed because Sophie and Keefe’s relationship has been leading up to this forever.

When I read chapter 42, I was reading it digitally on my iPad on a road trip, and when they kissed I accidentally smashed my iPad onto the windowsill… let’s just say my mom is now reluctant to get me a new one. But honestly I ship Sokeefe so much! Keefe deserves whoever he wants.

Chapter 42 was a lifeline for this book. Although we got some good moments like learning Glummer’s identity and backstory and talking to Amy, for the most part the book was a bit of a disappointment. But making sofkeefe cannon, in the sweetest most perfect way possible was more than enough to make up for it.
Ok, so for the longest time I was Sophfitz, I just thought they were cute together and all that jazz. I felt like slowly Shannon Messenger just made Fitz out to be a not nice guy at all! I do think he had some major read flags in Everblaze when he treated her like trash but I still wanted Sophitz. Only in this book did I start to turn to Sokeefe. Over the last books I just thought she needed to be single xD. I just want the characters to be happy and when Keefe and Sophie kissed I had to hold back a scream because my parents were home and it was too cute!😂 Overall, I’m just glad that she was honest with her feelings this book and told both Keefe and Fitz what she was feeling/thinking. I don’t think people are giving enough credit to Fitz because he truly was trying to work on himself this book and he even told her that he would want to date again, I just think he hurt her too many times (even in this book when he said she could get someone killed!) and has too many issues with her being unmatchable so they couldn’t ever truly be happy together.
I was reading Chapter 42 at about 9 at night and when they finally kissed I ran upstairs to my mom and woke her up, literally jumping up and down
I love SoKeefe. And I know that this is really out of context but I love to see the red queen series in the background, I also love that series. And I love Kotlc. And yeah I love sokeefe

🎉🎉🎉 Have shipped sokeefe since Exile, knew they were meant to be from the moment they held hands in Eternalia after Keefe returned from the Neverseen. So yeah, glad they finally get a chance. One of the biggest differences between sokeefe and sofitz is demonstrated by Sophie's reaction after their confessions. With Fitz she feels nervous and uncomfortable and tells everyone they're not dating, he's not her boyfriend and she's surprised when he refers to them as "us", a couple. With Keefe, they confess, they kiss, and when Fitz interrupts she's like, I'm going to have to tell him about US. She just automatically accepts Keefe is her boyfriend, they're together, and she's comfortable with it because she knows it's right.
ok guys when i read it i read the book, so i was sitting at the dining table and i was reading and then randomly i screamed out loud and spent the next ten minutes flapping arround in happiness while my family stared.

Half way through legacy and I’m like “Ok that’s it I need to see Sokeefe happen I am done with the obliviousness I don’t care about spoilers” and then I skim through book nine and find…chapter 42 and I don’t regret my decision ❤
when i was reading stellarlune i had had a ridiculous amount of caffine so i was literally shaking and i had taylor swift music playing which always gets me emotional and when i read chapter 42 there was a confusing mix of crying and screaming into a pillow. i'm so so happy that sokeefe has finally become a thing🥰
I don’t think it’s fair that people hate Fitz with this burning, fiery passion. like, has anyone considered that his rudeness might be part of his character arc? every single well-rounded character has their low points. it’s just a testament to how imperfect we are.
plus, he is full of teenage hormones, and we all know how crazy those make people.
Fitz was desperate, wanting his dream girl, and yet also wanting to keep his good reputation. he had never made sacrifices. he was not used to losing things. he was not used to change and conflict. it would make sense that he’d panic and lash out at the thing he thought was causing the drama: Sophie.
also, I hate to bring this up, but *all* males are aggressive. (although some more than others.) they tend to turn their disappointment, fear and sadness into anger in order to deal with it. Fitz is just that. it’s part of his character.
sure, he made some mistakes and said some things that he shouldn’t have said. but *everyone* does that at some point in their lives. not to mention he was in the heat of the moment when he was rude. other times, he was really sweet. he has genuine respect, loyalty, and kindness.
please, Fitz haters, give Fitz some grace.
we live and learn. and Fitz is in the midst of that.
I have faith that Fitz will come out of this emotional roller coaster, because all characters must become better people in the end.

i was reading chapter 42 during class, so when it finally reached the part, i squealed and tried to covered it with a cough, but it ended up sounding like i was choking and everyone staring at me like: wthhh👀
I think keefe is gonna be very encouraging if Sophie tells keefe who her biological mother is Fitz did do this as well but still kept pressuring her I am so happy when Sophie said stop pressuring me about it and told the truth. I also think it was better that Sophie told Fitz that Sophie likes keefe because if they kept it a secret then it would not go well I feel like.
Ok let me just say I loved this chapter so much I’ve lost count of how much time I’ve been team SoKeefe- but still I feel a bit bad for Fitz. Im yea he was a jerk but he told Sophie he wanted to kiss her and two weeks later she kisses his best friend like I’m not saying this because I wish that hadn’t happened I was so happy I fired but like still I feel like poeple are a bit too hard on Fitz like he’s trying everybody has their things and fit is his temper- but his heart is still in the right place. To be fair, sofìtz was toxic both ways. Sophie's selfesteem issuse and her thing with bad communtication with Fitz and running to Keefe without tellung does make sense why he'd be mad. Then again, Fitz had no right to invade her privacy and be mad about it, but she also shoild hav communicated better. Every relationship needs to grow through communication and thays why I think sofitz failed and sokeefe became endgame, they failed to communicate properly. While Sophie and Keefe already had a good relationship and did communicate to eachother and that strengthen there bond, not to mention Keefe not carimg much about her flaws. In the end im just hapoy sokeefe happened but its ashame that Sophie and Fitzs relationship will forever be damaged, specially since Fitz will always be her first ever real friend. Or maybe im reading to much into this, idk.

My reasons for shipping SoKeefe?
First you need some backstory: I was a SoFitz shipper, until around…Nightfall? Flashback? Anyways, I suddenly realigned that Fitz was…NOT the best person (just my opinion). I didn’t know who to ship then, and read the next books, until Stellarlune came out, and I suddenly discovered that SoKeefe was a good ship.
Anyways.
In Nightfall, when Sophie was talking to Amy about her friends after Alden had given her a sedative, Amy, when identifying Keefe, said something along the lines of “the one that was looking at you like you were the only thing that mattered in the entire universe?” (Might also have been in Stellarlune when she was talking to Amy through the Imparter). What I think is that, yes, Sophie really IS the only thing that matters to Keefe. He’s been abused his whole life, and hates his parents. He likes his friends, but…not as much as Sophie. You can see that in the pictures he drew in Unlocked. Every single one included Sophie. He doesn’t really care about himself, or his reputation. Only Sophie.
Whereas Fitz broke up with Sophie because he was afraid of the scandal of being a bad match. He tries to be selfless, but it just…doesn’t work. And he has issues with his temper and blaming Sophie. Sophie needs someone who DOESN’T have problems with all of the above-Keefe.
Add the fact that it is a great ship and Keefe is awesome and always shall be.

Okay, please no hate for this comment.... but I had shipped Sofitz fora pretty long time. When I read this chapter, I froze and put the book down. I literally went and sat in a corner. I've come to accept that Keefe is better for Sophie than Fitz. Here is where I will say something that won't be very popular: Fitz and Sophie are perfect for each other. But Keefe is a better person and would be better for her in the long run.
