Dan I respect you a lot and have learned a lot from you over the years. At the same time I will say $2500 is a rip off when you know there's less then $500 worth of material to build it!
I’m in the process of building a rock crusher almost have it done. I’ve fabricated and welded the frame and cast the steel body of the crusher. I just have to find some time off work to run some parts through the lathe plus mill out a channel for the crushing plate in the casting and she will be ready to go. About a day and a half with of work left on her at steady. It will crush a 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 foot rock and powered by a hydraulic gear reduction motor with a 2 inch 15 tooth pinion on the motor and a 72 tooth main eccentric shaft gear. It is adjustable and can crush down to a very fine product. Can’t wait to get it completed and up and running. 👍
A good shop teacher always has his jack knife and it is always sharp! you qualify Dan and the knife was free even better! Oh and your guard protects your beard as well!
I liked this video the sped up stuff is pretty funny. But nice job for a "temporary" crusher stand. I tried to rent a crusher here in Fairbanks, AK once and noone in town has them! A local store sells a small crusher you attach to an angle grinder for like 400... Might as well buy a full size jaw crusher for that price.
Hey Mr Hurd I had the idea for if/when you make a better frame to make a tensioner so you get the most life out of the belt and that also makes sure that the belt won't slip or fly off
hey Dan, not sure if it was intentional or not, but this video is not listed in your videos list when i go to your channel and click the "Videos" link...the only way i knew this one existed was because you mentioned it (and posted a link to it) in one of your other videos.
Dan, local guy (lake country) here me and the wife watch all your vids love em, well I do at least haha anyways we are heading to bear creek today to explore and pan/snipe but haven't been before... any suggestions on where to park or drive to or explore? Thanks PS if you ever need a strong back I'm more than willing to tag along and help on one of your adventures!!!
it looks like those mounting tabs could be made much thicker, they seem like they will end up work hardening and cracking from the vibration after a while. Granted any metal will at some point if you don't rubber mount it but still a thicker steel will take longer before it snaps.
I can't see those tabs ever being a problem. Yes there are some extreme forces in the rock crusher, but they are all internal. As for external force it is just the pull of the belt, which is a smooth constant. Any pulsing force transferred back would get filtered a lot by the flywheel. Those tabs are welded on angle iron, and seem way more than strong enough.
We will see if you use it enough. I'm looking at it from the point of view as someone that's been welding for 16 years and has seen similar things break on things that vibrate. I sent you a message a couple weeks ago through the PM on here about some minerals I found. Were you able to take a look?
Hey dan. I'm vary interested in learning things from you. I'm from kelowna but I'm in peachland area every weekend. Was hoping to come help you out at one of your claims... I just contacted you on gpexforum. If you are willing to have that extra body around count me in.. this isn't the first time I've asked. And will keep asking! Untill you tell me to go fly a kite. Ps I'm not asking for wages. Just wanna pick your brain on mining
Dan I'm glad you got it for free, for 2500USD and no motor or frame this might be the most expensive mini crusher around.
Dan loved the way you speed up the video. Cant wait to see you crush and pan something.

Yuck! A reminder of all the wildfire smoke we've had. A lot of it got down here to Anacortes.
Hey Dan, its not only your fingers you need to watch out for, how about that beard??
it might shake the frame apart.....when I saw the pulley , I first thought it was to big being a gear head..
forget catching ye pinky.... I cant even imagine how painful it would be if ye caught ye beard in that.
How much is a crusher like that or the cheapest please?
link to the crusher is in the description.
You get to play with sharp things? lol
I want one now.
