Because if you watch Arrow, you know Manu Bennett was absent from the show without his character being killed off, but he kept going to conventions/panels owning his character (Deathstroke), and eventually came back...like 2-3 year later, but still. Anything would've been possible if they found a way to take Lincoln off the show indefinitely, although they'd need an explanation as to how he survived the Season 4 finale off-screen. (sorry for the long comment)
Reverse-Viserys there would've been no way he could've believably survived the s4 finale except if clarke found him or something similar, but he would've had to return for s5 immediately.
Jason Rothenberg is neither racist nor a bully. He and Ricky just had a major personality clash which got worse when Lincoln's season 3 storyline was cancelled to make room for Clexa. Ricky wouldn't accept it even though it's the kind of thing that happens all the time and made such a fuss about it that Jason cut his part back even further until Ricky had no other option than to ask to be written out. I've been to several conventions for the show and spoken to many of the cast and crew about Jason. They've all only had good things to say about him and they all admire and respect him very much. He lives and breathes this show and none of it would exist without him and his creativity. Additionally why on earth would Jason not like the fact that Lincoln was popular with fans? He wants as many people to watch the show as possible. What you say makes no sense at all.
