Thank you for your sharing with the world your genuinely welcoming personality. I immediately subscribed. I started looking at your videos yesterday, October 25, 2024. I must admit I enjoy looking at your videos. You explain the process in great details to the point a child who can read and write can do this. Getting ready to start again shooting videos. It has been a year since I last tried. You truly simplified the process. Thank you sir.
Hi, I just found you on TH-cam yesterday and immediately subscribed and have already watched a handful of videos and I'm so enjoying them. I'm 52 and I just passed the 4,000 hour mark on my TH-cam channel today and I'm above and beyond jumping for JOY!!! You are so right, we can do this over 40! Thank you for all you share.
Love the content brother, as a new creator, I just did my first podcast / live stream yesterday with TH-cam directly and using my Insta360 Link webcam & headphones, turned out good afyer redoing it twice 😂 But the quality was great & the auto tracking & zoom feature is cool, kept it simple and can't wait to get my next idea for another podcast, btw it was about 'how horse therapy helped as a veteran', cheers
A couple of years ago I had an idea for a TH-cam channel. Today, because of your videos, I uploaded my first one! Granted it's a short. But it was way easier than I thought.
Kevin sooo glad l came across your channel, l have learnt a lot from watching and following how to start a TH-cam channel. I am 64 and from Jamaica...Janet
62 from 1962 here and video no. 2 going out tomorrow with lots of help from great motivators like Kevin. I'm off to watch your ideas video now Kevin to help put no. 3 together. I actually think there's a new wave of viewers moving away from over produced videos and lovin' it simple and clear.
I'm almost 60 and just started my YT channel. I am in my learning phase but knew I needed to start to get past that phase. I am shooting on my iphone 13 and a friend of mine gave me her lightning mic when she upgraded to a 15. FYI - if you use your earbuds on your iphone, the sound is a little better. I'm 10 videos in and I hope I am getting better.
These videos are helpful. I've been trying and failing and planning to get involved with TH-cam for a few years. I'm an artist, just doing the final prep for my first solo show, and I am going to try and make my first proper video because of videos like yours. Trying to learn Lumia fusion, it's cheap and pretty good. Oh, and I'm 42, in the Uk.
Thank you so much for this information i am slowly getting to starting my own YT channel . Tech has been my fear . I like how you simplfy everything. Thank you!
Again, thank you. I have invested in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. I cannot get past the tutorials. I have so many apps with it that I don't know which app to use for which part of the video creation process. As A result, I haven't been able to create anything. I just wish there were more teachers for the right brained learner, like me. With your clear instructions, I will create my first TH-cam video today. Thanks.

I’ve now watched a hand full of your videos and truly appreciate your kind personality and speaking skills are excellent. Love the shirt btw! I’m over 40, I am a techie but would suggest people who are worried about ‘tech’ to not overthink things. I only use an iPhone for my channel (for video, audio is professional equipment), mind you the visuals are ‘out there’ but it really shows you what a phone camera today can do. Once I stopped overthinking things is when I was able to push ahead and not look back. If you’re thinking about it…just do it! Great video
Great information on this video. I've been out recording some videos. I use a Google pixel 6 pro and I was out in the wind on Saturday and the quality was great. The wind was not even a problem on the sound and a video for the pixel 6 is really good. I can move my camera all over the place and it doesn't have a problem focusing
I've always had great gear for my professional and freelance work, but I didn't want what I do for TH-cam to feel like a job. I don't like using my phone for a variety of reasons, so I bit the bullet and bought the Osmo Pocket 3 and it's been great. It gave me the freedom I was looking for. I like doing my videos out and about and not at a desk setting where I don't feel comfortable.
You, and everyone, definitely needs to create with what makes them the most comfortable. I got the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 first of the year and LOVE it! Think it's still one of the best gear purchases I've made to date.
I switched to a DJI 4. I started with an IPhone to a Sony big Camera , was self conscious . Now with a small camera I am FREE😎. I still use the big camera when it’s studio. 😂😂Studio 😂 I don’t have a studio, I mean when I video in my bedroom. 🌴🌴Aloha
53 here and definitely don’t have tech skills. Past few weeks I just kept learning and getting better with every post. It’s people like you that I learn from so much
Thank you Kevin! You have taken away the techie fear that I have. I haven't posted a video just yet as I'm in the planning stage of ideas. Short and simple!! What a true blessing you are!
Thank you! So much! We have been instrumental of boosting my confidence. I’m a 64 year old private wellness chef and would a TH-cam channel and showing women and men how to eat differently.
New subscriber here, great videos... plus bonus, my wife said you're nearly the spitting image of Willie Nelson "but younger"! Dont disagree... great content Kevin!
This was great Kevin, thank you! One tip that you have that stood out to me was when you said, “say what you wanna say, stop then start talking again”. I never thought I could do this (as a new creator), hence the reason I’ve been doing soooo many retakes. 😭 I do have a ton of bloopers on my phone just from that though, which makes me laugh when I look back at them. 🤦🏾♀️😩😂
This is such good advice! I have been overthinking creating videos for years. Just recently I started to actually create them and post them to youtube. I am giving myself permission to create crappy videos and I am learning a lot in the proces!
I start simple and improve my skills as I go. Starting with 3 Camera angles and Adobe Premiere Pro. I use a iPhone 15 Pro and looking at my videos in 4K Dolby Vision I’m satisfied. DJI really made things better for audio. Great video 👍🙏🔝
Over 40 here. Went to VidCon this year to learn some video editing techniques for work and organizations I'm in, but inexorably caught the "I want to be a creator too" bug. Your channel has given some of the best practical advice for getting started. Can you talk about some tips for those who want to start creating but are struggling to find the time to do so?
Great content. For me, I love doing everything on my Android. I just wish I could get better sound. I've bought mics, but haven't had success. I'll check out your suggestions. Thanks.
I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. This one definitely helps inspire to create more. Thank you! As an "older guy" trying to build up my channel since July of this year I need all the help I can get. I'm definitely not afraid of tech - I have the other problem. I tend to immediately think in an overproduced style. I really need to just strip it down to the basics. Thanks for this video!!!
Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing and nudging us onward. I am a techie that build large scale networks for a living, like airport Wi-Fi and cellular coverage. You have encouraged me to the point I just received my wireless microphone(s) and the last thing I need to get started is that little tripod clip for my iPhone. Which one are you using and where did you get it from? I am hoping to start some videos that make tech more user friendly, since we all have a home network nowadays. So here is my other questions, 4K video or 1080p for instructional videos? I also take wildlife photos and at 90x optical zoom, the quality is a bit poor. There are newer 4k cameras with 80-120x optical zoom, so if I can start earning some revenue on TH-cam, I know what I going to invest in a bit later. Any ideas for getting better video/photos other than better light and getting closer… 😂. Thanks again. Oh, P.S. if you want the link to the inexpensive mics I bought let me know and I can DM you the info.
For the phone, I use a mini tripod from Ulanzi (affiliate): amzn.to/3B7UqXs. For the bracket, I use a couple of different ones. This one: amzn.to/3Tkkh52. I also use this one from Moment: amzn.to/3MG7rKs Re: video resolution. 1080p is fine for (almost) everything.
I feel like I could scrape together a video and learn some very basic editing but that video you did on startup TH-cam channel and then uploading it, totally has me nervous.
Another great video, full of wisdom from a well-walked path. I really value learning from those with more life experience, as they have so much to teach. I've been navigating decisions about gear and software for my own TH-cam channel, and as an Apple loyalist, I find sticking to their ecosystem helps reduce decision fatigue. Like you, Kevin, I'm keeping things simple (K.I.S.S.) and focusing on building my processes before adding any investment gear or tools to my existing collection. Does that make sense?
Hi Kevin. Thank youbfornthe video. You mentioned that you a variety of software to record yourself but then indicated you can use just quicktime. My question is why don’t you just use quicktime as well rather than paying for a program? What am I missing here?
Kevin, thank you, i am inspired to do this, unless my self doubt gets in the way, my name is Jody Lee, i am 63. I really want to do this and i think youve given me the courage, so Thank you' Iwish you were here to help me
Recently found you..I’ve learned a lot from you. I’ve got 76 subs and seem stuck lol. Speaking of keeping it simple, what are your thoughts on using iMovie to edit? Thanks
Hello Kobe, thank you for encouraging us over 40s and above to start a yt. It's been on my mind like 2 years or more but I'm always scared. I posted 2 videos and then stopped and one of my issues if I should do it in English or in my mother tongue (one of the dialects in the Philippines). Your advise is highly appreciated. ❤❤❤
Have considered doing TH-cam so very long but was not sure if I could produce what I had in mind. I like science but suck bad at math so it would be more conceptual science, not the nitty gritty. More of a " try this or that and see what happens " Not with chemistry though. lol Like to not blow myself up. I have a garage I bought a few years ago just for converting to my own lab. Room to do things and can find parts without spending an entire day digging in boxes. I have tons of thoughts wrote down on notes for years. Just me wondering what if or can I do this or that. I am not afraid to be on camera. But more as not coming up with things that will really intererst others. One thought was doing some videos on what others have done but my version and ramping the crap out of to see what it will do. I have several devices to play around with. Db meter, wind speed , senstive digital scales , a new leaf blower to produce 0 - 100 mph wind when I want it , and list goes on and on. But I never had room and place to start experimenting with all of it. Just stored it away and waited. Now I have the garage and have over time, insulated it, plastic up and walls. Electrical is next but maybe not this year. I am retired and income is very small after 41 years in hot factories. I am 69 1/2 years old- lol So putting off much longer may not be an option for me. Sorry for short story here. I came across your channel by chance the other day and subbed based on one video. Not so much on content, which was good though, but your mannerism is what grabbed my attention. You seem like somebody that would be easy to be friends with in person. And the cherry on top was when you mentioned God in many of your videos. Not preaching but give God the credit for your life. I like that , so I subbed. I hope you continue to make videos for a long time. 😃
Good evening Kevin. I love the way you explain what you mean,if that makes sense. I just turned 59 and have wanted❤ to create for a long time. Mya biggest hurdle is editing. I tried Devinci Resolve and I struggled with that. Today I downloaded cap cut and it seems overwhelming. I’d appreciate your insight if you have time. Thank you.
Appreciate that. Editing can feel overwhelming especially for someone who hasn't edited. I would try 1) finding the absolute easiest program/software and 2) just don't edit.
Thank you for all the helpful information. I have a question about using my iPhone and the storage issue. I am trying to record most of my content in one afternoon and then breaking up into smaller videos to use. I seem to have a storage issue using my phone. I moved most of my pics onto an SD card and took them off my phone. What do you recommend for recording and storage? Can you record directly to the computer or an external hard drive from your phone?
Hi Kevin! Have a question? Do the playlists HAVE to be something following the same idea as our channel name? Ex:I have experience in graphic designing and was considering adding a playlist to my channel which is totally off the subject of the channel, lol. Although, as a caregiver, I do use that graphic designing as a means of relaxing and escaping my daily routine. Almost like a treat to my self. Hmm I'm not sure That's why I would like to know what you can suggest. Thanks :)
Depends on what your channel is about, what you want to do. Playlists can be about anything but if someone watches and subscribes and expects more of that, what then?
Ok, when you are starting and stopping the video and need to put all those videos together to make one video, what do you use to do that? Is there an easy, cheap way?
I edit in Final Cut Pro which lets me put all the pieces together. iMovie (free with a Mac) works the same. You can also use software like Riverside and others too.
I do my videos on Zoom (I had it for client meeting) b/c it is a quick press of button. But recently, when I combined two clips using quicktime player, then save, then upload to channel, the second video, made exactly the same as the first, turns my voice in to an underwater-MAN voice. Super creepy and then I have to delete the whole thing. ANYONE HAVE THIS ISSUE WHEN YOU TUBE UPLOAD PROCESS CONTORTS THE VIDEO BY CONTORTING THE VOICE ON THE LAST CLIP ADDED????? It is screwing up my process :(
Thank you so much for this video and your encouragement. I started recording and posting my videos from August first five shorts and five videos. I know my niche and demographics.i have one subscriber and may be 10 to 12 views for each video. Is this normal? Am I expected too much to grow fast? FYI This is not my Chanel. It’s a new channel I started 😊
My problem with not being a techie (I was until the mid 1980’s when C+ and C++ came out, then I lost it), I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong…or right, as the case may be. I recorded something, and edited out stuff using iMovie (free with the phone) but when I go to post, YT Studio will only look at my camera for files. How do I post it, or how do I transfer the finished video back to my camera if that’s where it needs to be? This is my first video and I’m frustrated. Can you help me?
Sounds like you shoot on your phone, then edit on a computer. If so, you can either a) upload to TH-cam from your computer or b) send the file back to your phone via AirDrop. It would be easier to just upload off the computer if that's where your editing.
@KevinKolbe Thank you for the prompt response! No, I’ve done the editing on my phone as well. Part of the problem may be that I bought a new iPhone and kept my old iPhone. As part of the process of converting over to the new iPhone I deleted several things I didn’t want to transfer, namely the file folder that contained all my photos on the iPhone 14 from the iPhone 16. I also left all my games on the 14 to help conserve battery power on the 16. The 16 is where I am creating videos, along with a new gmail account (so if you look at my account here, you won’t ever find anything, it’s all on my other gmail account). Once I figure out how to save the video into a folder there that Studio can find, I’ll let you know the channel name. I just minutes ago figured out how to do a voiceover. It sounds like I may need to drop this onto my desktop to post it.
I'm almost 59. Just want to have fun with craft videos. Have made 2 on my android phone. It's all I have at moment plus selfie stick. Just wanted to have fun w editing but can't seem to get my pc to read photos or videos on my phone. So from phone what is easiest editor to have fun w? Or how to get my computer to read my phone so I can do from there
I'm on an iPhone so don't know much about Androids but you might be able to use the cord that came with your phone to connect to your computer and copy the photos/videos there. Regarding editing, search for free PC editing that comes with the computer.
Trying so hard to move my Podcast channel and it's so hard... 4 videos I believe with great real-life talking points and people just aren't subscribing. I could cut the time to 12-minute videos but I don't know. I see that I'm getting views but they're not clicking the LIKE button. People's attention span can be short...
Hey Kevin, . Alexa here again. Hmm, being "technical." Uh, NO! You're doing right. I would, however, recommend you skim through the owner's/user's manual to familiarize yourself with the functions, locations of buttons and limitations of your camera. After 20 years in photography/videography I have watched the technical side of the industry grow at an exponential rate. In short, the camera you bought 6 months to a year ago, is pretty obsolete as of today. It's technically out-of-date. . As I've learned from a Master Photographer with 60 years in the photography field, technical aspects of any "creative" endeavor, WILL snuff out the excitement and adreneline pumping creativeness of your videos and video shorts, no matter how interesting. Even Einstein was critical of technical knowledge, siding on "imagination" and "creative thought" as knowledge is limited to what we know now, based upon what we've learned from "then." Imagination, on the other hand, knows no bounds, has no limitations, except that of our own creative minds. . My grandfather frequently reminds me, true unencumbered creativity needs NO college, no special classes or costly courses to be successful (See historry of Ansel Adams - kicked out of so many schools as a child he had to be HOMESCHOOLED, yet not one photographer I know doesn't recognize his name). . If you cannot visualize the compostion of an image in your mind before you press that shutter release - YOU'VE ALREADY FAILED. It may be "technically sound" yet lacking of all interest, intrigue and mystery in its totality. Institutions are fine at teaching and preparing students to go to work for someone else, and not how to go it alone. Be your own boss, and you'll never complain about the person in charge! . As I've been reminded of so manuy times, we work outside of the box, preventing us from being confined or feeling trapped in what we hope to create through imagination and the freedom that comes with it. ~Alexa Shaw, Just A Simple Photographer
Thank you sir for your encouragement and guidance. I turned 43 on the 8th and have made the decision to hit the record button. I was wondering if it would be ok if I gave you a shout out on a video to thank you. Thank you Kevin! You have taken away the techie fear that I have. I haven't posted a video just yet as I'm in the planning stage of ideas. Short and simple!! What a true blessing you are!
Awesome video!!! Thanks for the guidance!
Absolutely!
Thank you! So much! We have been instrumental of boosting my confidence. I’m a 64 year old private wellness chef and would a TH-cam channel and showing women and men how to eat differently.
Wonderful!
New subscriber here, great videos... plus bonus, my wife said you're nearly the spitting image of Willie Nelson "but younger"! Dont disagree... great content Kevin!
Willie only wishes 😂 Seriously, thanks!
This is so true thank you so much ❤❤❤
No problem 😊
Thanks just subbed , what I needed , simple ways to do this .....golden video for sure!
Glad it helped
Great points thnx!🎉🎉🎉
You are such a gift! Thank you for this video.👍💐
You are so welcome ✌️❤️
Brilliant advice as always Kevin. Very many thanks. You are an inspiration!
Really appreciate that!
Thank you Kevin! ❤❤❤
You are so welcome
This was great Kevin, thank you! One tip that you have that stood out to me was when you said, “say what you wanna say, stop then start talking again”. I never thought I could do this (as a new creator), hence the reason I’ve been doing soooo many retakes. 😭 I do have a ton of bloopers on my phone just from that though, which makes me laugh when I look back at them. 🤦🏾♀️😩😂
Definitely helps with editing but gotta love bloopers too! Keeps me real! 😁
New subscriber here. Your videos are always super informative. Thanks
Thank you!
This is such good advice! I have been overthinking creating videos for years. Just recently I started to actually create them and post them to youtube. I am giving myself permission to create crappy videos and I am learning a lot in the proces!
Go for it!
Great advice!!
Thanks!
Grats on 25k!
Thank you!
Really good advice. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing!
These videos are so helpful!
Glad you like them!
Great idea. Noted. Thanks
Great content. For me, I love doing everything on my Android. I just wish I could get better sound. I've bought mics, but haven't had success. I'll check out your suggestions. Thanks.
Great tips!!! Especially the one on over producing, I’m totally guilty of that.
You and me both!
You got this!
Thanks for sharing these tips.
You are so welcome!
I also use this one from Moment: amzn.to/3MG7rKs
Re: video resolution. 1080p is fine for (almost) everything.
Hi Kevin ,I'm a new subscriber. 65 and have time for a new project / hubby. I love your content. It's easy to understand you.💞
Thanks so much for watching!
@@KevinKolbe 👍
Awwright No need Junk it Up ! Gracias
No junk allowed! 😁
I feel like I could scrape together a video and learn some very basic editing but that video you did on startup TH-cam channel and then uploading it, totally has me nervous.
Its really not as hard as you may think. When you're ready, just do a little at a time to get over the fear.
I’m looking forward to the new pause button coming in iOS 18! Also I love using my iPhone.
Absolutely!
Hi Kevin. Thank youbfornthe video. You mentioned that you a variety of software to record yourself but then indicated you can use just quicktime. My question is why don’t you just use quicktime as well rather than paying for a program? What am I missing here?
Quicktime is good but is very limited. For example, you can't pause a recording. That among other things is why I mainly use other services.
Loom is very good
Agree
Kevin, thank you, i am inspired to do this, unless my self doubt gets in the way, my name is Jody Lee, i am 63. I really want to do this and i think youve given me the courage, so Thank you' Iwish you were here to help me
Almost everyone has skills ❤it’s a matter of getting you to see it and apply it to something
As A New TH-camr creating content in my mid 40s you are very inspiring ❤❤I love your energy ✨️ 💯 ~Kitty
Thank you!
Great content Kevin, thanks! What would you suggest for lighting?
Depends on your set-up and budget. Here's what I currently use: www.kevinkolbe.com/gear
Recently found you..I’ve learned a lot from you. I’ve got 76 subs and seem stuck lol. Speaking of keeping it simple, what are your thoughts on using iMovie to edit? Thanks
iMovie works great. Create!
I would use the language you're more comfortable with and relates to the audience you want to connect most with.
@@KevinKolbe thank you so much for your reply.
love your videos man. do you have a video on how to add a clickable link up in the corner?
Those are called Cards and I don't. Here's one that might help with descriptions if you need it: th-cam.com/video/oMNM8o-TnEM/w-d-xo.html
@KevinKolbe thanks.
Thanks for sharing.
@@KevinKolbe thank you sir

@ understood! That’s my problem! So many different ones I want to do. Unless I change the channel name, hmm you got me thinking! Thanks 😀
Your tutorial site please
I do my videos on Zoom (I had it for client meeting) b/c it is a quick press of button. But recently, when I combined two clips using quicktime player, then save, then upload to channel, the second video, made exactly the same as the first, turns my voice in to an underwater-MAN voice. Super creepy and then I have to delete the whole thing.
ANYONE HAVE THIS ISSUE WHEN YOU TUBE UPLOAD PROCESS CONTORTS THE VIDEO BY CONTORTING THE VOICE ON THE LAST CLIP ADDED????? It is screwing up my process :(
I'm a new here
Thank you so much for this video and your encouragement.
I started recording and posting my videos from August first five shorts and five videos. I know my niche and demographics.i have one subscriber and may be 10 to 12 views for each video. Is this normal? Am I expected too much to grow fast? FYI This is not my Chanel. It’s a new channel I started 😊
Congrats for starting (again). As far as growth, watch this and see if it helps: th-cam.com/video/sfuqS9-NShE/w-d-xo.html
@@KevinKolbeThank you. I just watched the video now. I live in The sultanate of Oman
Can this be done in iMovie?
Yep
4 videos is great but patience is better. If you want to do it, give it time.
Hey Kevin,
.
I’m 57 and was thinking of starting a TH-cam channel but I’m not comfortable with showing my face. Could I still be successful?
You have to define what "successful" is for you.
Do people with current channels use their name/introduce yourself by name?
Depends on the channel.
Hey!! Well I got another hundred or so subscribers this week so I guess I’m doing something right.. 😊
That's great!
I think the biggest stumbling block is the fear of being in front of the camera
Why?
@@KevinKolbe its a surreal experience rather than talking to people you can actually see.
Or deciding if they want to be in front of the camera
Great tips, i am almost 50 and i recently started the challenge is in getting subscribers
Keep it up
Skillshare - at least take the FREE two weeks before you start uploading.😎
Thank you sir for your encouragement and guidance. I turned 43 on the 8th and have made the decision to hit the record button. I was wondering if it would be ok if I gave you a shout out on a video to thank you. My channel is Grant Family Ventures, and consists of hobby interests, such as drone videos, 3D printing, and movie reviews. Again, thank you and keep up the amazing work.
Very cool. Sure, shout away! Thanks!
