I think you should set a lap time on a track with the bought car and try to compete with the built car because part of the reason the high performance cars cost so much is because they can handle. Quarter mile time is too linear add a few laps on a track and it becomes more dynamic

suggestion, once you build the car to the budget and it doesn't beat it take it back and find out how much it cost and how much you have to do (if possible) too win
I'm glad he tried the AE86 but the 4age engine is not very modifiable for high horsepower. I have a 86 MR2 with it and it's great. But it sucks for modifying. That's why people love putting 2jz's in their Trueno Sprinters for drift cars.
