Very nice video, very interesting to see this type of corrosion on stainless. Similarly I've seen brand new stainless floors with MIC corrosion all throughout the HAZ of the floor plates. Come to find out the tank had about 8 feet fire water just sitting stagnant in there for 3 months which resulted in the MIC corrosion. Please keep these videos coming 👍

Wow. Just imagine the cost to build this tank. To find out it’s being corroded in such a small time frame And then having it removed. It’s Pennie’s to the process plant but still though. Money down the drain. Which sucks because I know welders took pride in building such a large tank. We’ll hopefully they did.

Glad you liked the video, it's an unusual example that I thought people would like to observe.
Yes. The cost of this AST was in the millions of dollars when it was built just a few short years ago.
This is a classic example of several things, spending money on the wrong thing is the greatest point, and not spending money on other portions of the project is another.

Our last 3 million gallon field install was hidden from my office but you could definitely hear it!

Interested to find out what was the repair recommendation before putting the tank back in service?

The client had committed to removing from service in two years.

I wonder if they used the wrong filler metal when welding the tank

Chris, I dont think so. I am scheduled to inspect this AST again next year. I have recommended that I have a PMI unit to be able to test the welds and HAZ while I perform internals on the next couple of ASTs.

sludge build up maybe means theres a water leak

Lots of floculent in the water, they are chemically treating to get it to settle out.
