Funny how I came across this video at this moment. It is Saturday today and as I am writing this my partner who is a CA has been working since morning. I completely agree with you on the workload, and expectations being high, Its a lot!!!!. Sending all of you hugs❤. I am not a CA but the other thing I can add based on observations are high stress levels especially during year-end and some companies have no boundaries, like being called at ridiculous hours of the night to solve a certain problem or even when you are on leave. And that being a “Dr on Call “ statement you made sums it up so perfectly.
Absolutely enjoyed this. I’m in the first year of my articles and have been following your channel for a few years now. You bring a lot of insight. Thank you 🙏🏽
I guess thats the reality of academics vs World of Work, in most fields of study(3-8 yesrs) you mostly use (20-30)% of studied content...the rest of knowledge acquired becomes extinct.
I am a 3rd year trainee and it's Sunday 6am yet I have been up since 1am trying to wrap up on my work and completing another trainees work because they were taken off the audit early and I need the time management competencies 😂. Fun times. The money is also not greate
I’m doing accounting. Love it bits and I have exceptional grades but I know I’m not built for the CA career though I appreciate the competencies that come with studying accounting. I’m headed to the C suite but not through the CA journey. I’ve seen the people in CTA and trainees and I don’t think the sacrifice is worth the reward especially when one is strategic about their career. I’m adding a minor in information systems and going the CIMA route
That’s great. Typically the training part for CIMA and CA(SA) is largely similar, if you don’t go to audit side for CA. Where I trained we were in the same programme and rotated to the same teams excl internal audit for CIMA. All the very best ❤️
I started following you I want to ask how you manage your finances since you say the money is not that great😂❤... If you had made a video before can you please recommend it to.. Thank you
I have a whole financial wellness playlist of videos. th-cam.com/play/PLID0CnaHJDo-sYXm0uBdVgTjSJCd2lU8j.html&si=ZnSkxmrKa_ebNLiZ I’ll make updates videos though.
Can i please ask a question... currently I'm studying in UJ Bcom accounting, I'm doing my 3rd year this year. If I want to be a CA( SA) I will have to do BCTA next year then CTA for the following year. But there are no bursaries available for Bcta next year so I was thinking of taking a student loan of 100k next year so that I will be able to do BCTA. I have other option though to do honors in Tax, or CIMA, or Internal auditing. If. I decide to take the loan how long do you think it would take me to pay it back when I'm working ? Thank you
Hi 👋🏽 How long it will take you will depend on the interest rate, and instalment you and the credit provider will agree on, you can always pay it off quicker than the agreed schedule though. This will also depend on your take home pay when you’re a trainee and your living standard in terms of how much disposable income you’ll have to allocate towards the debt if you want to pay it off aggressively. Even the interest rate will depend on your credit profile. So I think there are too many variables for me guess how long it would take you. Also bear in mind that the loan would probably accumulate interest during your honours years before you start working so you may have a bigger loan than the initial R100k when you start working and paying it off. Get clarity on the possibilities/ options from your preferred credit provider.
There are periods where you have a lot of time and periods where it gets busy. But I wouldn’t say there’s no time at all. It’s seasonal and often role/ job specific.
Whats mrs view on AIs impact in the industry, will an accounting career still be worth it in the next 5 to 10 years . Is ai really impacting the industry negatively or are people just overhyping it 🙏
