I always say to my friends that once you reach Immortal, you actually start to PLAY Dota. before Immortal, you're LEARNING Dota. because the range is bigger, wider, & deeper in the Immortal bracket. the difference between someone in the top 100 (like Quinn for example) and someone who just reached Immortal is like Divine 5 and Herald. it's about 5k mmr difference. but don't take that last part literally. lol

People are really describing it in a wrong way tho. TECHNICALLY yeah, numbers in this game really differed, same as Divine and Herald numbers differ. But you don't dare to say skill difference is the same. Divine will shit on everyone below legend 1000 games out of 1000, but top immortal will stomp low immortals often, but not always. Low immortals, especially mid immortals can fight back, herald can't fucking physically defeat divine player. My point is, some people make bigger deal out of this fact, however I do agree, that it's unfair for players of different mmr categories to compete in the same match.
There is no "you're good before bad after" people will always be exponentially better than you even if you're immortal, unless you're literally top 200.
I'm a nobody but just asking, I'm Russian, but I'm far more involved in english community and was thinking, if I were to find a fun way for you guys to learn some russian, purely for the memes, would you watch it? There are some really funny things the guys in Gorp's games say, like in this one, and I just realized that it all goes above your heads and it makes me sad (jk)

I don't know about higher ranks but below ancients, just afk farm and your donkey ass teammates will be fighting. Use ult and kill squishy guys. You will win most of the games doing that
