I really like your interpretation of this movie! I'm glad I sought it out after seeing your short about it a while ago. I don't have much to contribute to the conversation because it's been a long time since I last saw the movie, but I will say that I first watched this movie when I was around the same age as Ofelia. It's been a interesting to see how my perspective on it has changed as I've grown. I feel that I could understand Ofelia better when I was a kid, but I understand the world she's in better as an adult. I'm now closer in age to her mom than I am to Ofelia and I can resonate with her mom's fears way better than Ofelia's desire for whimsy in her life. The need to just keep your head down even if it means compromising your values or obeying powerful men can be so overwhelming when you have others you need to keep safe.
