I'm pretty sure they aired this across several different channels when it came out. Maybe on the one year anniversary? I remember being in school (maybe 8th grade) and we watched the premier of this video on Channel 1 (or was it 4). I remember sitting in class watching this debut and some of the images will never leave my mind.
Like Garth, I'm a fellow Oklahoman as well. I live in Tulsa, where I was born and raised. Garth wrote this song in memory and dedication of the Oklahoma City Bombing. I remember the day of April 19th 1995 like it was yesterday. I was 15 years old. I remember what I was doing that morning at 9:01 a.m. I had a knee injury and I was home from school that day and on my way to the doctors office driving in the car with my mom. It had came across the radio that there had been some type of explosion in OKC and that there was smoke billowing out of the Alred P. Murrah Federal building. By the time I got back home from my doctors appointment, my mom had went on back to work to her job after dropping me back home and I sat down in my living room and flipped on the TV. and what I saw was the most horrific scenes I had ever seen. There were people with severe injuries to their face and bodies walking with police and paramedics out of the smoke and people screaming. It was chaos. The news anchor in downtown OKC came back on camera and said they believe a bomb had went off in the building. There was helicopters and military planes starting to fly over my house. I was so scared and...I was home alone and had no idea if the terrorist had died in the blast, was still at large, or what? I didn't know. I watched the news footage pretty much all day long. It was live news coverage and all unedited footage, of course, so it was the scariest thing I had ever saw. The people being pulled from the rubble. The firefighters climbing into the building pulling people out by the dozens. A few hours later, an Oklahoma cop on patrol was driving down the highway in the outskirts of the Oklahoma countryside and spotted a speeding car. The officer pulled the car over, stated the driver was acting suspicious and nervous. The officer opened the trunk and doors to the speeders car and saw bomb making materials. He then made the arrest of Timothy McVeigh. Timothy had bombed the building using a Ryder moving truck. I felt so relieved he was caught. I was still scared to say the least, but glad Timothy was caught. The officer was in the right place at the right time. If not for that, Timothy may have never been caught. Timothy McVeigh took 168 lives that day and injured many. A day I will never forget. R.I.P. baby Baylee Almon. The photo taken of the firefighter holding baby Baylee will forever be frozen in my mind. It will be with me for the rest of my life.. It forever changed me.
This is one of my favorites and was done for a tragic day in his home state, the OKC bombing. This has been a great song for so many tragedies including this pandemic
The original video always hits me hard. I was 14 when it happened and it still kills me. The song itself makes me think of everyone I've lost in my life. 😭
I remember coming home from school and seeing it on the news the day it happened... There were too many lives lost... I'm just glad they find the people who were responsible so quickly
Garth released this to honor the victims and survivors of the OKC federal building bombing on 4-19-1995. The original video is Garth in front of two video screens showing the horror and the aftermath. The bombing took place the day before my birthday. I spent my entire birthday handing out meals to the first responders from the restaurant I managed. The hardest part for me, as the father of 4 young children at the time, was the daycare and the sights of the lifeless children pulled from the rubble. I would find myself at random sobbing uncontrollably for weeks afterward. Even now, nearly 25 years later, this song still gets the lump going with the first few notes. If you ever have the chance to visit the museum, you should. It is an extremely powerful experience.
Garth released this song & video as a tribute to the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing... If you ever get a chance to hunt down the actual video Garth released with this song I promise it will bring you to your knees... Garth being a native Okie , he poured his heart out..... Great reaction Billy... Keep being you.
I wasn't going to give ya a cover lol. I made sure GARTH was singing. This song has so much substance to it, its my ALL time favorite Garth Brooks song and there are MANY great songs to chose from. Song makes cry because I think about our world, and I know as an individual I can have an impact on the world, the smallest gesture of kindness can shift someone's day. I will continue to work towards being me and trying to help change things one day at a time.
It’s so hard to find real Garth stuff on TH-cam , glad this was actually him , Garth is like the MJ of country music. A lot of his music still can be applied today
I love that song and many of his true country songs that where never released. "In Lonesome Dove" "Night Riders Lament" "Belleau Wood" "Ireland" "The Cowboy Song"
Byse would definitely come out if you watched the actual video of the song. I used to listen to him mostly none stop. I knew his brother and sister in law and nephews in highschool in the 90's. I was actually in class when the attack happened in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Yes this his song for the Oklahoma bombing, i was in Edmond Oklahoma the day this happen never will forget that day!! Rip to those that lost family members that tragic day , love this song !!!
I was a senior in high school in Oklahoma City April 19th, 1995 when the Oklahoma City bombing happened. This song is amazing...and Yes this is 100% Garth
My daughter sent me this song the other night. Im a nurse and I list 3 patients that night. I was so worn down and this song reminded me why I fight the fight I do.
The actual video to this song makes me cry all the time. I'm from Oklahoma and my cousin was just blocks away from the building. He felt the explosion.
That was definitely Garth, can't mistake that voice lol. You need to see his performance at the 1996 American Music Awards of this song.... It was a tribute to the Oklahoma City Bombing. It's a beautiful video and gives this song a much deeper meaning. I'm sure BYSE will love it! hahaha
This is one of my favorite Garth songs. It reminds me of my first husband who was emotionally and mentally abusive because he did not change me, I got away from him and now my life is so beautiful and amazing
Hey, a Garth Brooks song! Let's see how long it stays up though. I'm a HUGE Garth Brooks fan, and this is one of my top 10 faves of Garth. Back in the 90's, can't remember the exact year, Garth came to East Lansing for 2 nights of concerts. I didn't have money for tickets, so thought nothing of it. Besides, Garth Brooks tickets get sold out in minutes, so I didn't have a prayer of getting some. So one night, I went to East Lansing to shoot some pool at the local arcade just off Michigan State University campus. It was 2 or 3am, streets were bare, and I was kinda restless anyway. So I parked my car down the street, and saw a line of touring buses parked in front of the Marriot, with a couple people moving luggage around and taking them in the hotel. As I walked by one of the buses, I heard a voice say, "Hey man, how you doing?" Automatically, I just said, "Pretty good, how are you?" That's when I looked at who spoke to me and realized who it was. It was Garth Brooks! I don't remember the small talk we passed back and forth, because I was getting more and more starstruck as it sank in my brain who it was I was talking to, so I was kinda excited! I never get starstruck, and I've met Ray Charles, Dan Quayle, Mickey Mantle, and other celebs, and just talked to them as if they were a friend, but this was unexpected, and I wasn't prepared to meet Garth Brooks on a empty street corner in the middle of the night! So one of the last verbal exchanges we had that night, he asked what I'm doing at that time of the morning, so I said, "Just going to shoot some pool, unwind and relax. Wanna come and shoot some with me?" He kinda smiled and said, "You know, if I weren't tired after the concert, I'd take you up on that offer, buddy. Perhaps another time." I said something, don't remember what, and shook his hand, wished him good luck, and thanks for the great music, then I walked across the street to the poolhall and did my thing. Somewhere in there I probably told him that I love his music, and how they mean a lot to me, but I don't exactly remember if I did or not. Afterall, it was over 20 years ago, and my memory isn't so great, plus being starstruck has a tendency to make memory and words get jumbled. Still, I'll never forget the rare chance encounter of meeting Garth Brooks, not at a concert, but out in the open. I'll tell you one thing, he's as nice and genuine in person as you'll see he is in interviews and the like. When I got home, I asked my folks, "Do you know who I met tonight?" My mom didn't have any idea, but my dad said, "Who? Garth Brooks?" That floored me, but I guess he heard the excitement in my voice, and also knew about the concerts in E. Lansing. He's kind of perceptive about things like that.
This was his song in honour of the oklahoma city bombing. Just find the official music video for it. It's beautiful I know you can't show it on here but watch it for you.
YES!!! (Huge) Garth fan here...Yes, this is Definitely Garth!! WooHoo!!! Not the right video of it, but it is definitely him!!!! He is from Oklahoma, (as am I), and this song is about April 19, 1995.. What do I think of?.. I think of the day... I was in highschool about 10 miles away, when it happened, and felt the vibrations from the bombing. I will never forget it.
This song is one of the reason I am who I am. The lyrics spoke to me so hard. And 30 years later, it still makes me cry. And I still try to live up to the lyrics
Great song but when I hear it, I can't help but remember the official video and I want to cry. Such a shame you can't see it. The video had footage from the Oklahoma City Bombings. One of the most powerful videos I can remember seeing.
So, the vocals are Garth Brooks, as many others have said. But, this is one of his select handful of songs that has a video. It was written after the Oklahoma City Bombing and the video is from that time. BYSE will make an appearance on that one just from the images shown. Especially as it showed rescuers taking things from the daycare center that had been in the building.
Thank you! My hubby started watching you too. He just got back from deployment. You have kept me company and lifted me up during these hard months while he was gone. ♥️🙏♥️🙏
This is actually a song I did for an ASL workshop project. I signed up for the class thinking it was a beginning ASL class. I didn’t know it was supposed to supplement the lessons from the actual ASL class! I stuck with it though, and everyone else was happy to help me out. Thanks, Billy! 😊
One of Garths best and few songs he actually did a music video for. You definitely need to see the real video of the aftermath of the OKC bombing. The images are powerful.
I'm from Oklahoma, I live 3 hours from Oklahoma City. I was a junior in high school when this happened. There was a high school FFA convention going on that day. The convention is held downtown every year. When we would go to the FHA convention we had to walk past this building to get to the food court for lunch. Where he parked the truck is where we had to walk. I still remember what class I was in when the bomb went off. And remember what class I was in when they came and told us.
This song was also was dedicated to the oaklahoma city bombing back in the 90s and he also sang this song for a tribute to DALE ENHART SR and their is also a video tribute on this song for the victims of the 911 attack
man, when i hear this song, i can't help but tear up, i mean, its basically a song about about a rock being weathered by the storm, and though we all know that rock will turn into sand eventually; it still fights until the bitter end, and though my observation is pessimistic. there is still something very inspiring about that sentiment that i hope people will describe me as when i pass on
The official music video was just him singing interspersed with video clips and pictures from the Oklahoma City Bombing. The first time I watched it a picture of first responders crying on each other's shoulders made me cry.
Garth wrote this after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City at 9:02 am on April 19, 1995 killing 168, 19 of which were children. I live in north central OK, born and raised. I was 12 years old when it happened. I remember them taking all of us to the library to tell us and to watch coverage on the tv. Several students were picked up by parents because they had family there. People all over the world remember where they were on 09/11. Older people remember where they were when JFK was assassinated. Okies, we remember where we were on 04/19.
This is an original Garth Brooks song. He wrote it in memory of the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing. It hit close to home for Garth because he is from Oklahoma himself.
This is actually Garth!! Let me tell you if you were watching the actual video BYSE would 100% been in the chat pretty early on!! The real video had footage from the Oklahoma City bombing. And personally being from OK and remembering that day just like most remember 9/11, it’s hard to watch.
I'm from WA state, currently in AK... I still remember what happened in OK that day. I was 14 and it was the first time I could remember having something that happened so far away from me physically absolutely shatter my heart into a billion pieces. I haven't forgotten. Don't think I ever will.
Yes, this for the OKC Bombing on April 19, 1995. I lived in Oklahoma back in 1991-1992 when my ex-husband was in Active Duty @ Ft. Sill. So when Timothy McVeigh blew up the Murràh building it was personal.
I love that people love this! it is so heartfelt! I never wish anyone bad.. but Timothy and Terry got their reward.. this was so tragic..and absoultely do not carry this hate on.
You are so right, it is a generational song. It was rededicated after 9/11 with audio from pedestrians onsite when the towers fell and President Bush's address after the event. It sums up the feeling in America very well during that time in our history.
I think about two things. The day I bought that cd plus how much I enjoy Garth’s music and also how this song makes me think about how I wasn’t raised to be racist and while the fake media and certain special interest groups like to pit us against one another I won’t let this world change me.
This song is amazing and yet it has even more meaning once you know when and why he wrote it. He wrote it after the bombings of the government buildings in Oklahoma City in April 1995. Yet, I don't think there is any other song more fitting to reflect the emotions and feelings from our 911 Attack. Watch the 911 video with this song and you will be brought to tears!
Yeah. Either that was an extremely close soundalike Or, that was absolutely Garth. Probably my absolute favorite Garth song. If I recall, this song was made/released in response to a tragedy that happened in Oklahoma having to do with riots or something. Don't remember the details.
Someone else mentioned that you need to find the real video it is out there. This song was made after the Oklahoma Bombing. The video is gut wrenching.
Here's the link to actual music video for this song that everybody is commenting about. It used to be on youtube but i dont see it anymore so i found it through google.
That is definitely Garth. He did not write this... it was written by Tony Arata, who also wrote The Dance. This is a song I've asked for at concerts and he's done it....just part of it, acapella, during housekeeping. It's amazing.
What I think of? First the Oklahoma bombing I think I was 15 when that happened and I never thought I would see anything like that or worse. Then came 2001 I was very young (my 21st bday that year) a navy wife a mom of a toddler & baby. That April Santana High shooting (grew up and lived) March Granite Hills high (parents Alum, & my toddler nextdoor in special ed preschool), and of course everyone knows that September. This song came up a lot after that. But it changed for me. It used to be a song of strength, that no matter what happens the bad guy will not win. Now I hurt and cry when I hear it because the bad guys of 2001 did win and I unknowingly for a long time changed. I suffer from PTSD , Anxiety and agoraphobia as a result. On top of that I'd already unknowingly been dealing with major depression and BPD. I hate that I have been forever changed because of these events. The worst part is over a 7-8 year timeI fell down a rabbit hole of selfmedicating, alcoholism, and addiction. I lost all 5 of my kids to an ex that was abusive to me and got in some legal problems because I had no clue what was really going on inside. It wasn't until I got clean the first time andgot Obama care that I learned I wasn't completely bat crazy and the symptoms I was trying to run from were normal. That was 2012, had a couple hiccups untill Dec 2016. Did 2 outpatient and 2 inpatient rehabs. I still struggle everyday. I leave my house maybe once a month. I have my first grandbaby on the way and I pray I can do it for her. I pray all the time to make whatever wounds/scars that those events inflicted on me to go away. I want to be able to someday once again say "I do this so this world will know it will not change me."
Try the video he made where he used scenes from the Oklahoma bombing rips your heart into shreds to see a cop crying like a baby and a emt comforting him. Poor injured babies rescued from the building.
That is 110% Garth.
The song and the original video was dedicated to the victims of the Oklahoma bombing. It makes it even that much more powerful.
And it was re-released after the 9/11 attacks
Yes, if you were going to react to this, you needed to react to the original video. That's the only reason I downvoted this video.
I'm pretty sure they aired this across several different channels when it came out. Maybe on the one year anniversary? I think I would have liked to see him sing it.
It's hard to not like the guy when he can write a song like this. Another one he did is called We Shall be Free. Give it a listen.

That was the real Garth. I am so happy you finally got one!
This is actually a song I did for an ASL workshop project. I signed up for the class thinking it was a beginning ASL class. I didn’t know it was supposed to supplement the lessons from the actual ASL class! I stuck with it though, and everyone else was happy to help me out. Thanks, Billy! 😊
Garth wrote this song a couple of months after the Oklahoma City bombing in memorial of the 169 deaths there.
168 deaths
Yes! This is Garth!
This song gives me chills every time I hear it
One of Garths best and few songs he actually did a music video for.
👍it’s Garth
Prayers for everyone who got hurt during the Oklahoma City bombing
Please Do If You Get There Before I Do By Collin Raye
The song is called "Love, Me"
Yes please!!! Great song.
This song was also was dedicated to the oaklahoma city bombing back in the 90s and he also sang this song for a tribute to DALE ENHART SR and their is also a video tribute on this song for the victims of the 911 attack
man, when i hear this song, i can't help but tear up, i mean, its basically a song about about a rock being weathered by the storm, and though we all know that rock will turn into sand eventually; it still fights until the bitter end, and though my observation is pessimistic. there is still something very inspiring about that sentiment that i hope people will describe me as when i pass on
Garth Brooks is unbelievable.
Watch the live version he did at the music awards in 1996. It shows the videos of the aftermath
Garth brooks, “when you come back to me again”
Okies, we remember where we were on 04/19.
his music is beatiful
One of my faves of his!
i so love to hear Garth sing
Billy you have to do Garth Brooks "Papa loved Mama"
I swear, I love your reactions. I watch a couple before bed every night.
Tina Harnden Exactly. The whole country remembers 9/11. If they’re old enough, they remember JFK. Us Okies though, we remember 4/19.
Yes! I can't hear this song without thinking about that video. I still want to cry when I think about it. I was in college.
I'm from WA state, currently in AK... I still remember what happened in OK that day. I was 14 and it was the first time I could remember having something that happened so far away from me physically absolutely shatter my heart into a billion pieces. I haven't forgotten. Don't think I ever will.
Tony K so true! It’s hard to believe we are coming up on the 25th anniversary.
berlyn3014 there is a part where they laid a pacifier on the rubble, it kills me every time.
Yes definitely Garth. ❤
Love Garth so much!
Great reaction. Beautiful message.
Billy thank you for reacting to this song
Trisha Yearwood sang the shyte out of this at the Gershwin Prize for Garth. Great song , lyrics & video. So moving.
“The Dance “
Oh that's Garth...I'd know that voice better than even my on Mom's.
Garth Brooks is amazing
You are so right, it is a generational song. It was rededicated after 9/11 with audio from pedestrians onsite when the towers fell and President Bush's address after the event. It sums up the feeling in America very well during that time in our history.
That's definitely Garth. You should also check out Friends in Low Places and the River.
That Summer- Garth Brooks 👍👍
Definitely 100% Garth... no question!!!
I think about two things. The day I bought that cd plus how much I enjoy Garth’s music and also how this song makes me think about how I wasn’t raised to be racist and while the fake media and certain special interest groups like to pit us against one another I won’t let this world change me.
Look for the official video where he is singing against the back drop of the OKC bombing. That video is powerful!
You can find the original video on Facebook at Garth Brooks Believers.

Can you please do Carrie Underwood... You won't...the one where's she's in the green long dress. I've asked several times
Wow! It's actually Garth!
Someone else mentioned that you need to find the real video it is out there. This song was made after the Oklahoma Bombing. The video is gut wrenching.
Here's the link to actual music video for this song that everybody is commenting about. It used to be on youtube but i dont see it anymore so i found it through google.
the original video is hard to find, but it explains more what the song is about! The Oklahoma city Bombing!
That some was written for the Oklahoma bombing. The video is even more touching
He wrote this for the OKC bombing, there's an actual video for it :)
