If there is something called Garage envy, I have it. Thanks for the luggage tour. It's always interesting to peek into others stuff. I will let you peek into mine after winter. Cheers!
You are not alone with the garage envy problem hehe. I'm sure it's very beautiful to ride in Sweden. I work for SKF, one day I'll visit your country. Cheers
Ian, thank you for your awesome videos. I’m a new old guy ADV rider and these videos help me out so much. Your channel is definitely helping riders like me and my son Bubba J.
Awesome, really nice demonstration of how much you can pack onto a bike without overloading. That chair is awesome I always thought you'd just have to go without chairs on a bike. Definitely going to watch this a few times, thanks.
Great video. Tusk is making great products for a very good price comparing to the competition. I love the packing cubes, I use them too. Two things, my first aid kit/bleeding stoping kit goes in my backpack or in a front pocket of my jacket, because in a case of a “ get off “ or being trapped under the bike I can have it easily accessible. Also You can find set of camping towels that pack way smaller that what you using , you can find them on Amazon and they sell for about $20 , I’ve used them on multiple trips and they are still in great shape.
Great insight and experience shared so freely, thanks Ian it's always a great reassurance knowing there are more of us nuanced fellows out there. All the bestest
Brilliant: a video of unpacking is a effective way to show case a luggage system as well as demonstrating how a compact and thorough packing system works. I'm curious about the difference between cold spring/autumn and summer packing and equipment selections. Thanks for the niffty tips.
Really appreciate this video. I just picked up a 2021 KTM 890 adventure R yesterday and I’m going to start kitting it out as a BDR bike, Very helpful information.
This is the fourth or fifth video with the pairing of the T700 with the Tusk Highland X2 system, I guess it's a sign to set my T7 up that way too! Awesome video, that's pretty much what I take with me for BDR riding as well!
Nice garage compared to my dark cave ;-) Thanks for showing us your camping setup. I will to have to go camping in the Pyrenees with friends in September. I take my old Transalp 600, whereas usually I ride a lot lighter and stay in B&Bs or private accomodation. Take care, Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
Those Tusk bags look like a great setup - great quality and value compared to the more greedy importers. You are a very clean camper, or maybe I’m just a messy one 🤣. Nice informative video.
Nice video as usual, I haven’t been on a camping trip for almost 20 years, got most of the stuff ready during lockdown and ready for adventure spring comes. Can you give us an idea on camping vs hotels or b&b’s kind of travel, just to get us mentally ready for the outdoors again. Thank you
I would recommend switching your headlamp over to a usb rechargable, lithium battery one. The advantage being that you can charge it fully and not have to guess how much charge the batteries have left and bring spare batteries unnecesarily. I have never had mine run out but you can charge it from your bike or the same powerbank you use for your phone and camera. I use a Nitecore Nu25 it is Super light weight and very bright with a decent run time.
Love that setup, this really makes me want to go out and ride camp right now! Just pack up some stuff and go. But - with this weather over here there‘s no way, it‘s about 0C right now during the day. Also, I don‘t have a dry bag. Or a motorcycle. Or a license.
You meantion bleeding control , you need quick clot gauze or celox gauze. Don’t get the granules anymore , the celox gauze is the best you can pack it in or place over lacerations or deep wounds. Though a celox granule with injector applicator may be best for bullet wounds, but the gauze is much easier for the trauma surgeon to work on you when you get get to hospital. I’m sure they hate when someone shows up with a huge deep wound packed with granules.
Just bought the new tusk V2 for my T7 Great video, explaining the potential of this setup. Where do you live? Really like your home setup and the view + garage. Living the dream. Keep posting ✌️
my set up is real close to yours, i have a klr650. I use one of my bottle bags for a msi Fuel bottle its extra gas as well as fuel for my whisper light burner. and my tent fits in the other one. with my pillow. U use a large camel back bag for my tank bag that holds my 3l water bottle and all the same gear you more or less have in yours. I just made my own straps for it. One day i want to get the canvas Vest for my tank but they are hard to find these days i may end up making it my self but its like a molle vest you would wear out in combat but made for your tank. both molle straps and Velcro. There is picts on youtube if your interested. Edit one thing i will say about the tusk bags i have had mine for almost 2 years and the only thing i have noticed is the color fades slightly not a huge deal i do use some cleaner on them and restore for that type of fabric. also the stitching is starting to fray a bit again nothing to bad just slightly. Over all the tusk gear i have been extremely happy with.
How do you protect the painted side covers below the seat of the Tenere 700 when using the Tusk Highland X2 system. It looks like you're using the Tusk top rack, but I cannot see if there's anything else there to stop the bags from rubbing on the painted side covers. Thanks in advance!
Nice setup thanks for sharing. I have the rackless from tusk as well and I’m curious if you’ve run into the same issue I have. When I pack the dry bags full and push them into the bags they hold air below them and compress like a piston. Have you ever had that problem? The only way I’ve overcome it is to put the dry bags in and then pack them in place on the bike which is sometimes a little bothersome.
Why do motorcycles have a back seat? How often do people ride with a pillion? Who buys a Tenere 700, for example, with the intent to carry someone else on back? With space on a motorcycle so limited, why don't manufacturers replace the pillion seat with an extended luggage platform?
I liked your setup except the motorcycle tools and equipments. They are located on the right side. I prefer to put'em on the left generally. Note: I got stock exhaust on my T7
Nice set up! How did you do all that with just one hand? Haha. Going to look into the tusk chair, I have been using the Cliq chair. It packs small, but is a little heavy.
Hey Ian, nice video and very informative. I could not tell if the saddle backs were touching the muffler or not. Do they sit on the muffler or away from it. Let us know.
is tusk highland x2 mountable on 2022 Africa Twin DCT standard?, (now the rare rack bars comes standard ) i am worried the AT rare area would be too wide to fit these side bags. Any suggestion ?
Do you know if you can use the rackless system with the tusk flat rack in the rear with a rotopax 1 gallon fuel tank in the rear? It appears you might be able to mount the mount system on top of the fuel tank but I was curious about that.
I really want a tenere 700 I’ve considered other bikes but really like the tenere but it would be my first bike, I’ve riden dirt bikes quite a bit but the only experience I have on a road bike is I rode my grandfathers soft tail standard around the neighborhood twice I got it up to speed and felt relatively comfortable do you thing I’d be fine on the tenere? I’m about 6’1.5” 180 Any advice
I see you are using the Zumo XT GPS. Do you have any thoughts on it? Have you used any of the Montana models? I'm currently in the air between a Montana 700i and the Zumo XT, any opinions would be welcome.
Great information! Curious about that lithium battery jump starter. Is that something you've always carried? I've always just push started my motorcycles when I suddenly find myself with an under-charged battery. However, I have never tried push starting my T7. I guess if one is alone in the desert, in the sand, a lithium battery pack makes sense! Also curious what your chain maintenance routine is when out on a BDR? I'm stuck up in Canada, but boy you have me dreaming of the Mojave Desert now! I've done a lot of hiking there is a past life (when I was young). My lightweight setup for motorcycle camping: 2 x Kriega OS-18s + Kriega US-30 Drypack + 2 x Givi Crashbar bags (5L each). Kriega is expensive, but quality is top notch. I also use a separate duffel bag for my tent and motorcycle cover. I've had to setup and take down camp in pouring rain a few times so having a dedicated duffel for wet stuff is convenient.
Thanks for sharing. I always carry the jump starter. Takes little room, have used it to help out dead bikes. I totally neglect my chains - do nothing to them. Except set tension when needed.
Suscribed to you awhile ago, appriciate your honest reviews. I have same bike and just rode MABDR this summer. I used the TUSK rackless excursion bags. I want to buy the Highland x2. Question I have is are the drybags easy to install and remove when they are full. On the excursion bags the sewn strap that goes around the mouth of the bag makes it very hard to install and remove the drybags if they are full. Take care
Efficient packing.... only thing I would do different is carry head lamp in the tank bag. Seems like I always arrive camp in the dusk when I need light.
Let's talk about your mile-munching secret weapon for a second... In lieu of the sheep skin is that a seat cooler that you have over your seat? I have a full one for my 1290 but i find that after a long period of time it turns into a grater!
@@BigRockMoto I move around in my seat a lot on longer trips (500+ mile days) so it felt like a cheese grater but for my 'cash-n-prizes' trying the sheepstuff now.
Nice setup but this is far from "lightweight" you have 25Lx2 + 30L + 10L + some small pouch.. thats like.. 100L of stuff... At best this is "midweight" if not "heavyweight" or "around the world" motorcycle camping haha. Lightweight should be around 40L :')

Only thing I would question is those 2 wolf man bags on the crash bars. Guaranteed to destroy the bags and contents in a fall.
That was really helpful to understand how versatile the tusk luggage really is! Thanks Ian!
I will keep the first ad bag in a easy access porch.
A great set up, a place for every thing and every thing in it's place.
I think I would pack the couch, fridge and dining table as well. Maybe even spare tire or two. This is 2 days camping we are talking about.

I use Omeals for camping. They are self-heating when you add water to the bag, so you can skip the stove. No complaints about the taste.
Great video. Nice to compare everyone’s set up.

Is the rackless setup resting on the plastics? I like the lightweight simplicity, but I'm a bit worried it'll just break them off in a fall.
It does, but the weight and straps are lashed to the frame. It won't break the plastics off anymore than a regular fall would.
It does, but it doesn't seem to be an issue
