  • In this video, I will share with you, what I believe to be, the best (and maybe cheapest) way to travel Europe!
    ----------
    Interrail's website (for European residents):
    interrail.eu
    EURail's website (for non-European residents):
    eurail.com

So you’re thinking about interrailing Europe, but you’re thinking HOW DOES IT WORK I NEED MORE INFORMATION
Then you’ve come to the right place because in this video I’m going to tell you everything I wish someone would have told me before my first time interrailing, starting with
    The basics:
Interrail is an organization that lets you buy train passes that are not limited to one specific ride. You can use their passes for most trains and a couple of ferries in 33 countries in Europe.
You can choose between a one-country pass, which is valid in one country, with the exception of the Benelux pass, which is valid in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and the global pass which is valid in all 33 countries. You can choose between various different passes, ranging from a pass you can use on 5 days of your choice in a one-month time frame up to a 3-months continuous travel pass.
The Rail Planner App and Google Maps.
Basically your two best friends on your trip. Learn how to use these apps. Especially the Rail Planner App isn’t perfect but an essential tool. It has a lot of features and you can definitely spend many hours planning routes for your trip with it.
Also you will probably need Google Maps to navigate around cities. For that you can use the offline-maps function if you don’t have mobile data. So definitely know the basics of that app, especially the public transport feature comes in handy.
    Reservations
The website where you book the reservations is super easy and self-explanatory. Don’t worry about that, I remember I was super worried about the reservation part because I didn’t find any information about it online. Also they have fixed prices and don’t get more expensive over time like airplane tickets do so there’s really nothing to worry about.
Book reservations and accommodations as soon as possible
You don’t have to but if you want to book reservations, do it as soon as possible. On my first interrail trip, me and my friend wanted to book a ferry ticket through interrail but we waited and before we wanted to actually book it, it was gone.
Trains are less dramatic, usually you have more spots available but here too you might get more limited with your options over time.
There is no due date until you should have booked your reservations, you can absolutely do that last minute too. Just be aware that some reservations, in my case a couple of years ago it were the trains in Spain and France, are sent to you via mail. And that obviously takes a couple of days. But you see the type of ticket online so you know beforehand what you’re about to book. Accommodation
You will probably stay in Hostels or Airbnbs. Be aware of the fact that the prices may change and get more expensive over time. Also, if you wait with your booking, the cheaper alternatives might be booked out when you finally decide to book so if you have fixed plans, try to book as soon as possible. But if you want to stay flexible, that’s also not a problem, it’s not like the prices are going to be triple the price, but just keep in mind that it might turn out more expensive than expected.
Alternatively I can recommend you Couchsurfing if you want to experience more of the local vibe and maybe want to save money. I recently posted a video about Couchsurfing, where I talk about the basics and how to get started. Pack as light as possible
I cant stress this enough: Just take what you really need. If you think yeeeaa I might need that, then just don’t pack it. The comfort of having a light backpack is so valuable and if you don’t really need something, its easy to go without it if you don’t even have it. And if everything goes wrong you can just buy it again in the country you go.
I usually just take a medium size backpack, even if I’m traveling for multiple weeks. Then I pack clothes for 5 days, a towel, toothbrush and that kinda stuff and a smaller bag to walk around during the day with. That’s it. Make sure to have an overview of the train stations.
What does that mean? Sometimes, big train stations have two sets of tracks. So there might be two track 4s for example. I learned that the hard way when I was in Italy when they told me I was at the wrong track 4. But when you know that the possibility of two separate sections existing in one train station exists, it’s not a problem at all to find the correct one. I just didn’t know. Discount offers. Interrail has these discount offers of 10, 15 or sometimes even 20 % off their global passes that come pretty frequently.

You need to be a eu citizen to qualify interrail. North americans can only do eurail which is about double the price. For that price, its not advantageous anymore than retail price especially lots of routes do dynamic pricing so often can find cheap prices as long as flexible on time. Finally, theres always Ryanair

Actually they’re pretty much the same price.
But I agree, it’s not worth it for everyone.
But if you want to go on a spontaneous adventure and go where you want to go every day without being limited to where cheap flights take you, it can end up being a lot cheaper than doing this without a pass ;)
But sure, if you have a fix itinerary you know beforehand, Ryanair can be your best friend as well :D

LG Daniel
