Wigwe Was a Giver, Doer, Mentor, Visionary and Philanthropist - Atedo Peterside | Mustapha Chike-Obi

  • Herbert Wigwe was more than a banking colleague to me, apart from banking we share about 6 broad activities. He chose my first child to be on the board of Wigwe University. It's almost as if the purpose of his life was not just to build a bank but to pull resources from there to develop and focus on where he thought he would make a major contribution like a world class university in Nigeria. The team he has left behind on the Wigwe University project will be more committed now than when he was alive.

Herbert happens to be my boss for 9 years and I can tell you how compassionate he is.Herbert is a visionary leader. For every years vision we gather at the village meeting of the law school and he explain everything so clearly that you can see yourself in the vision. He like critics when it is constructive but if it will distract the vision he will not condone it.He is a smart man and very friendly and accessible person. He likes the youth and believes so much in them as the pillar of development. He is a massive risk taker, some failed but 70% worked however from the 30% that failed he still recovers like 15%.He is a businessman to the core.Am sure he was in U.S.A to secure a business deal.Am proud of him,his legacy, his innovation, his welfare initiative, his perspective to things, his contribution to the church, sport, art, banking, women inclusiveness, youth inclusiveness,ITand digital revolution etc.
He is passionate about sustainability and am sure that none of the things he did we die after him because he always have the mindset of building an institution that outlives him or AIG
He stabilise Access in his time as there was job security which was not present previously and this speaks largely to his good heart and a lot became loyal to the brand because of this man.
My condolences goes to his family. He was indeed special and I pray God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
