same price as WWE 2K game, while AEW FF is way more fun. I managed to play around 30h of 2k23 until I realized all matched with more than 3 wrestlers are broken. Few modes were fun to check out once/twice, but got annoying fast. Loading screens took about a minute/two each (even selecting next page on community creations takes about 2min to load). Out of 30h I played about 20h max. Customization same as any other 2k game to 2k14.
Now I bought AEW FF about a week and a half ago, already have 81hours. Depends what you like, for fighting arcade wrestling game this one has pretty in depth combat. If you got friends to play it with, it's a must. If you have discord, there are always people to hang out with in online matches. While AI vs AI simulations always unpredictable.
As the combat has multiple ways to defend, gameplay wise this is excellent (just needs a bit of patch here and there, but still pretty polished already). For defense you got: Block strike, parry strike, dodge to any direction, positioning, time your attacks, time the animations, counter grapples, use situational abilities. You can't run randomly around the ring, as if you start running you will run until you hit the ropes. Thus, it's important to maintain good position. And as with classic No Mercy, you race to the finisher. And it's insanely hard to kick out after getting hit with the finish, unless you have specific abilities you will need to mash your best.
So better, don't get hit with the finish.
The roster this game so far has is very unique. Ton of different styles, the big part that keeps wrestlers fresh from one another is the Momentum boost that applies on certain conditions for each wrestler. A lot of boosters actually, from springboard offense, to just letting opponent take shots at you, to wanting for opponent to kick out, using weapons etc.
I would say, try to pirate it, check if it's fun. Already has mods, some crazy stuff like three stacked cage inferno match. Also I saw wwe roster modded in, some look pretty dope like Roman Reigns looks great.
As I said 81hours in and sometimes it just gets addictive af. One more match, as most of the time they are pretty short. You feel the fun and are left wanting more. And the best thing is, all loading screens take about 2 seconds to load. So you barely wait for the gameplay, you just straight to playing it (or simulating matches).
Don't know, I read valid critiques and still decided to check it out for myself. I got to say I definitely recommend it. If price is too much for you, wait for some sort of Sale. I myself as AEW mark, gladly will show support. I just didn't expected to like the game that much. I can see the same on Steam reviews, how at start it got bad reviews from people who played about 2 hours. And then slowly the game got 74% positive rating.
Same price as their competition, one has better customization options, other is fun to play and actually not wasting your time on bad optimization and broken modes
