Not necessarily the guard player aspect, but Marcelo will give up an advantageous position in order to keep the flow going. He really only makes "mistakes" per se if he is slowed down. For instance, Kennan held turtle. I've watched enough Marcelo footage to know that in that same position, Marcelo would've rolled. I don't want to say it frustrated MG, but it throws him off his game. The back take (and I'm not taking anything away from Kennan here, its amazing that he took Marcelo "the backpack" Garcia's back) probably was a bit more effective because he used it to slow MG down. Personally, I'm a huge fan of MG's proclivity to keep the movement going. He's fast and loose, but has this incredible kinestetic awareness that I admire. I really enjoy watching him get the sub out of a scramble or use a butterfly hook in a way I've never seen before. It's smooth to me whereas Kennan is tactically brilliant. Two great styles to watch for sure.

Why does everybody feel the need to defend Marcelo Garcia? Keenan Cornelius is currently one of the best grappelers on the planet and Marcelo hasn't been competing in a while. Its quite obvious that based on stamina only, the most legendary grapplers on the planet will struggle against people in top condition based purely on stamina alone. There is no shame in that.

Beginner question: At 2:25 : why is Keenan not attacking Marcelo's throat (e.g., rear naked choke)? And why is marcelo not defending his throat with his hands? Is keeping the chin down really sufficient? In my gym everyone would have immediately started choking me...
A few things to note in this scenario, Marcelo's arm is trapped by Keenan's legs. The chin tuck is a good defense, but I would imagine he didn't go for the choke because he was trying to control Marcelo's other arm. The reason for this is Marcelo is trying to prevent that leg triangle with that other hand, which would free his trapped arm. Keenan was trying to avoid this by controlling that other arm.
