You should be careful with the hook kick at close range. If your opponent attacks you like a bulldozer or kicks your knee, you might easily lose balance. In this case, it would be better to step aside and attack from there.
Do the close range spinning hook kick like in never back down cop scene on you tube it's at the end at 3:13 I think. Anyways I use it all the time. Lands every time. Bet you $1000 you land it in sparring
