TOP 10 GO AROUNDS - AIRBUS A380, L1011 TRISTAR, BOEING 707 ...

  • The most amazing go arounds I have ever filmed including an Airbus A380 go around, a Boeing 707, Airbus A330, Lockheed Tristar L1011 and many more. The aborted Airbus A380 landing was filmed at Amsterdam last year. Most of these go arounds were caused by crosswinds, sometimes with wind speeds up to 60 knots. It` s always amazing to watch an Airbus A380 land or depart but watching this A380 struggle with windy weather conditions was one of the most incredible aviation moments I have ever witnessed.
    The Lockheed Tristar L1011 used to be my favorite airplane, when I was younger. I started creating avitaion videos in 2011 and shortly before the Tristar got retired I was able to film one of them doing training approaches at Brize Norton in 2012. While the L1011 initiated a go around I almost got blown away by the engines. This scene always reminds me of the film Pushing tin.
    Thanks for watching, new videos every tuesday and friday.

    Going around is the safest course of action. Beautifully captured!

    • @lbowsk
      @lbowsk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While that sounds good, it not always true.. What if there is a monster line of very hazardous weather (TRWs) right off the end of the runway? And what if there is another airport (Left or Right) which prevents you from going in that direction? And what if that direction is your best course of action? What if you were delayed at the departure field off the gate and used up a ton of your extra fuel and the weather deteriorated along your route of flight and you had extensive holding?
      You might just want to land and avoid dealing with the weather on the go around.

      Well there I was on some fine sunday afternoon
      Just me and my airplane
      On a little airpot we've never been to before
      We're on short final and nothing was looking right
      I was seeing red over red, white over white
      And I couldn't seem to remember how that saying went anyway but
      I was staring straight down at the runway
      And all I could think of was about setting myself up
      To ungraciously dismantle this perfectly good little airplane.
      And, and then off in the distance I heard a voice
      And I think it was that of my flight instructor saying
      "You can always go around"
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down
      Don't wait until your socks keep sliding on the ground
      You can always go around
      I know back when, when I learned to fly
      My instructor was yelling in my ear
      How we're in carb' heat cold, climb out, pitch, flaps to go
      Take it 'round the pqtch, one more time again
      But I know now, he was showing me
      That's just because the nose is pointing down
      If it doesn't look right
      Give it one more try
      You can always go around
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down
      Don't wait until your socks keep sliding upside down
      You can always go around
      You're coming in
      You see you're high and fast
      But your mind is set on somehow getting down
      The runway leads to grass that leads into trees
      It will leave your sweater dripping from your brow
      You still got time
      Simply change your mind
      It would sure be nice to fly this plane again
      With the wings still straight
      See no place to hesitate
      Pitch and power, gear and flaps
      Hey, "Go around"!
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down
      Don't wait until your socks keep sliding on the ground
      You can always go around
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down
      Don't wait until your socks keep sliding on the ground
      You can always go around
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down
      Don't wait until your socks keep sliding on the ground
      You can always go around
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down
      Don't wait until your socks keep sliding on the ground
      You can always
      You can always go around
      If it don't look right coming down

    I lived and worked in France for 14 years near the city of Perpignan which is about 150 kilometres south of Toulouse where the Airbus factory is. The airport at Perpignan is very quiet so Airbus used it for training. When the A380 came on line they trained the buyers' pilots there doing touch and goes. It was amazing to watch them coming in from the direction of the Med and touch down with just a puff of smoke from the tyres before they lifted off again to do another circuit. Sadly, the A380 is now going out of production due to lack of demand.

    • @tomheringer2047
      @tomheringer2047 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any time the nose is angled left or right of your course line in order to maintain a predetermined ground track, it is referred to as crabbing. Very strong crosswinds with an extreme crosswind component will require a very large crab angle. These landing jets executed go arounds because they were at or above their published limitations. When the rudder is used to rotate the aircraft about it's vertical axis, it is referred to as yawing.

    Good to know the "go around" is the same approach. I was recently a passenger on an A319 in Norfolk Virginia that did a touch and go on 39 knots. We diverted to DC to refuel and finally make it back 3 hours late. United didn't offer anything except, "sorry for the inconvenience."

    I had no clue what a go around was until my plane did one a couple of days ago.
    It touched down for maybe a couple of seconds. Crazy jolt in the aircraft. The Bag compartments came flying open and a few bags came out. My wife is such a space cadet , she was like “it was just turbulence”
    It was crazy. I didn’t know commercial aircraft could do that. I thought I was about to be depicted in a movie.

      I suspect those go around were planned. I don’t know RAF regulations, but I’m guessing the co-pilot wasn’t touch-n-go certed, so he could only do low approaches.

    I am wondering if the Tristar, which appears to be a military plane in the video, was involved in some kind of training exercise with the go rounds? Flew on an Air Canada Tristar, Heathrow to Vancouver in 1981. Beautiful plane.

    • @brucegoodwin9826
      @brucegoodwin9826 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LMichaelL65 Agreed, I was thinking just the same. He seemed to have the runway made 2 or 3 times.

    • @av8rjacq486
      @av8rjacq486 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are correct.
      the Tristar was being filmed for test purposes.
      I saw that footage many years ago, though I don't recall the exact details

    • @kentd4762
      @kentd4762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. Another option besides the filming for test purposes mentioned below is that (maybe without an IP onboard) they were limited to low approaches only. Sometimes (often?) touch-and-gos aren't allowed unless there is an IP.

    wow, I could not belive the pollution comming out of that Awacs plane. If you drove a car in Germany that pollutet the air like that, they would fine you and make you park your car. Why is it not so with air planes? Was good to see the L1011, I used to fly that and the DC10 many times across the atlantic. Great video, thanks.

    • @jazzi_0453

      Military planes are an exception. They don't care about efficiency or pollution, they just use what works.
