- I was watching a vintage Masahiko Kimura Judo Instructional, and I noticed him doing multiple demonstrations of the Ude-Garami, popularly called the Kimura in Jiu-Jitsu circles and thought it was worth highlighting. The film was likely recorded in the 1960s and has been colourised and remastered.

I'd tap too, Helio.
Amazing

BIG OSS.
Could you do a video on the cross-body/single-leg ride
Oss
What is ude? Does it mean arm?
Elbow
So was this move created by Catch wrestling, Judo or ancient Japanese Jiu Jitsu? I've heard all 3 styles claim it.
It gets confusing; here is some background.
Judo Gene Le Bell learned the Double wrist lock from Wigan Catch Wrestler Karl Gotch.
Sakuraba a Studet of Wigan Catch Wrestler Billy Robinson also learned it from a Catch Wrestler. I will say this regarding Sakuraba; I've never seen anyone in Judo use the Double Wristlock as effective as Sakuraba. In addition; anyone recall a Judo stylist use the Double Wristlock against multiple Gracies and BJJ stylist?
Last; Kimura himself did participate and train
as a Pro Wrestler with Catch Wrestlers just as Judo Gene him self did.
It is actually ancient ancient. There is a 4000year old statue that unmistakably depicts the figure 4 so idk might be a moot point😂
@@1badz239 its not a catch techniques as it is found in nearly every grappling system in earth. Example google this
"armlock angkor wat wrestling carvings kimura"
it is from ancient cambodian carvings from a thousand years ago....look familiar??
Also its in the canons of judo written in the 1890s and a jujutsu book from 1906. Also nothing you said about this or that person saying they never seen it in judo as you made up that claim, in fact I bet you cant link a source that claims what you said. lol
@@teovu5557 let's discuss this; are you familiar with Catch Wrestler Ad Santel vs multiple Judo Black belts? Elaborate for us.
It comes from catch. Kimura was a pro wrestler too
Gracie dont like this video
Now its Part of bjj
Wrong. Japanese jiujutsu/judo, not Brazilian. The Ude Garami did not exist in BJJ until after the guy shown in this video used it to break Helio Gracie's arm.
@@jonathanperrott2298 👉now its part of bjj 👊 what's wrong... Kid 🤤
@@jonathanperrott2298 you literally said “wrong” and then agreed with the guy what is wrong with you mate
RONG
@@conorfiggs234 He changed his comment. Before it said something along the lines of "That's BJJ technique..." some smug sounding stuff and then the sunglasses emoji. In the video, a JAPANESE judoka demonstrates a JUDO technique that the Gracies hadn't even heard of before it was used on them. In other words, this is NOT a move that derives from techniques invented by the Gracies, their teacher Carlos Maeda, or other proponents of BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU, hence his smug comment claiming ownership of this technique for BJJ is inaccurate.
This is AI ❤
No, it’s not.
