Mickey Smith is a lad that has lived a life a little less ordinary.
He grew up amongst a family of fisherman and mariners, so the ocean and the elements were inevitably where he was drawn.
At the age of 9, he was given a disposable camera and an acoustic guitar and cameras and music combined with the magic of waves eventually led him to become a photographer and filmmaker.
From Iceland to Tahiti, Ireland to Japan, Mickey’s love for waves of consequence and isolated environments have left him with many a fine tale to tell and worldwide acclaim for his groundbreaking creative endeavours.
"If you only scrape a living, at least it's a living worth scraping. If there's no future in it, at least it's a present worth remembering".

I can hardly believe that I've been a huge fan of Ben for years and didn't know about Mickey, what an incredible individual, his art strikes the soul and as a lover of Cornwall and the ocean its nice to know there exists people with the same exact inclination, and they all make incredible art! Wow. I was going to ask who the music in the video was by, because i loved it. But Mickey did it :) And he said something in that video that will stay with me, as it epitomises how i choose to live my life (Much to dismay of one or two family members) : "If you only scrape a living, at least it's a living worth scraping. If there's no future in it, at least it's a present worth remembering". Beautifully put. The South West is a good place, with some good people :)

I was at the Do Lectures, this year, and I saw this Talk by Mickey, I met him before hand and I was inspired even before I knew who he was and before I saw him do his talk..What a Guy...I've only just found this video today and glad I did...Respect is Due.....
My heart goes out to the raw energy of this man. . .

Thank you to do lectures for uploading this! I have such admiration for the creativeness and eloquent intelligence of mr Smith ( plus he’s pretty fucking good on a guitar) those of us who are strangely magnetised to the sea 🌊 share a unique brotherhood from all walks of life

Thanks for sharing what you've learned. It's freeing for us, on this side of your lens, to realize a life like yours can be lived. And I'm not talking about the "success" in monetary terms, it's more about living a life that was consciously chosen and being awake to that.
