    Oh my god guys the consultation idea is genius! I’d really like a consult about how to make things fit beautifully in my kitchen 🤦🏼‍♀️ - we’ve built our bus home ourselves and have been living in it for about 5 months now and I still can get through the food/pans/cups storage phase in a practical yet pretty way yet… went nuts when I saw your “moving in” reel on Insta ✨

    Would love to see you guys work with prospective van owners to design and build lovely vans for new users, such as the ones you have previously built and departed with, that use the features and design ideas you've implemented in previous builds. Your vans are so unique looking but also streamlined and functional.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! We have thought about opening customs for a long time. Unfortunately with the overhead at the place we were renting, liability insurance, garage keepers insurance, utilities, and other business/licensing costs, we were only averaging around 5-10k per build before taxes (3-6 after taxes). The truth is it really isn’t worth the work that it takes at those numbers which is why we gave up our shop location. The dream is to eventually own our own property where we could do this for others without so much overhead.

    As a former sailboat liveaboard I am very familiar with the Webasto brand. It's very popular among boaters.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it seems to be popular specifically for off-grid applications! What appliances did you have from them on your boat? We had a diesel cooktop in our previous van from them and loved it!

    • @bryans8656
      @bryans8656 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scarletandseth We had the diesel cabin heater. The boat had 50 gallons of dedicated diesel tankage for the heater so we could go for months without refilling. This was over 25 years ago so I don't remember the specific model.

    Another amazing video. So entertaining. Appreciate everything you guys do! Gonna miss this seeing this van, but excited for the new one. Love the coffee ASMR. Love the cooktop but bittersweet over the Diesel cooktop. Love the morning ritual Scarlet. Do you live full time in that? How do you find the making of the bed all the time and the lack of a garage?

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We do! As two people, we love the U-bench layout. So much so that we’re doing it again in the new van we’re building for ourselves. We really love the structure and routine making and unmaking the bed gives to the day. We also love how open it keeps the space during the day when the bed is away. For us, the lack of a garage isn’t a huge deal. Since we live full time, we prefer more storage in the actual living space that we can access all the time from inside the vehicle versus outdoor /gear storage we have to get outside of the vehicle and open the back doors to access.

    For installation of the screen door, where would you put that step? Since you said you did it later than you would have liked. will replacement be easy in case cats scratch it?

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. It wouldn’t be easy to replace. It’s doable but not easy. I would install it pretty early on the build if we were to do it again!

    • @tobitobi2493
      @tobitobi2493 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scarletandseth I mean of course besides having to import it again, would you say it’s at the level of replacing a nautilus shower door? Also is the install on your patreon? Thanks

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a lot harder than the nautilus doors but there are some great tutorials on TH-cam about it (search Dometic flytec 2000 install). Honestly it was a bit of an afterthought on our build so we didn’t film and install video since we did it so late and had to do a lot extra because of it. You do have to cut the sub floor out in a small section which is difficult if you’ve laid flooring already. We used a plunge track saw and it went smoothly though!

    • @tobitobi2493
      @tobitobi2493 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scarletandseth sorryyy another question abt this. I was seeing some European installs of the Dometic FT2000 where the door is on the opposite side of American vans. Do you think a front to back install would be possible (as in, instead of moving the same direction as the van’s side door, mounts from behind the passenger’s shoulder and pulls towards your bed) using the fly screen meant for right hand drive vehicles? Thanks!

  • @rittealh
    @rittealh ปีที่แล้ว

    • @scarletandseth

      It’s a dometic product made for a Boxer van that we bought on eBay. Unfortunately the seller only had one available!

  • @intheshadowsilie
    @intheshadowsilie ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting, I know that you guys just got it but I wonder how long it will run connection to your gasoline tank? An if your out in harsh conditions in another state your estimated times from leaving your self stranded from fuel consumption.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  ปีที่แล้ว

      These easily run for a week plus and they won’t actually drain the vehicle tank since the auxiliary lines only go down about 3/4 of the tank.

    Try driving across state in Australia and when you pull over you will see a bumper FULL of bugs. Is this channel American only content or something? I’ve had a similar experience in many other countries too. Maybe the bugs all have been removed from the USA as when I drove from Vegas to San Fran there were no bugs that I can remember but I wasn’t looking- was too focused on having to drive from the other side of the car 😅
