I have had nothing but problems using Native Instruments software. Relentless crashes, some tracks refusing to open that I have worked on for a long time and one of the worst attitudes to customer support. If you use Reason 12 especially I would avoid them. Most accurate review of Komplete I’ve ever seen! I have 12 collector’s edition and I think 14 ultimate is a massive update from 12 considering all the play library’s, and mixing plugins. I really don’t use any of the expansions so no need for collectors edition this round I’d say.

      @neil.parker672 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@tilllanglo5316 That's true, but once you go down that route, the update price is higher for each tier and also as each komplete comes around, some libraries from a higher tier can become available in a lower tier
I think standard and ultimate offer the best bang for your buck in terms of content depending on whether you are a producer or a composer
If you really want the symphony series collection, then it might be worth it, but you can get a crossgrade if you own komplete standard or ultimate, also ultimate does give you the essential series and the new orchestral tools samples taken from the Berlin series, plus all the cinematic libraries

Comparing with whatever hardware synth the possibilities are endless! The downside is it doesn't challenge us getting everything out of limited tools. Really dive into a single synth or plugin and get to know and understand it deeply, often sparks more creativity from inside instead of a external plugin. Putting effort in a sound will make it much more alive and personal! (my two cents to all of this 😉 )

I’ve been using maschine since like 2012, started with the MK1 & now own MK2 & MK3. I had been on maschine 1.7 for the longest time & would use massive. I went to update massive & when I loaded a project, I realized a lot of my patches had reset. I had bass lines & custom settings on projects that all got reset to factory sound. I reached out to them & their best response was that it was my fault because I didn’t keep up with the updates. Biggest let down ever, I wouldn’t update cause things were running fine. No one updates when they are in a functioning version, that’s just my experience.

TMT is just a fancy term for "yo, we let you apply an offset to the frequency and gain of each filter, but we don't want you to know what exactly the offset is so here you have a bunch of presets for that to choose from, byeee".
as you can probably tell, i'm not a fan. i mean, i do love the idea to add L/R or M/S offsets to filters, but the UX to hide that behind cryptically labeled buttons is just utter nonsense that only appeals to those who believe only the very specific offsets that were introduced by random consoles are good for music production for some reason. they should have just made that a bunch of knobs.

K14 Standard is around 7K + worth of stuff at less than 10% of its individually priced/purchased value. That’s over 90% off. It’s an insanely good deal. I was offered the crossgrade option with 30% less then this already great price. If you’re updating from previous its 60% less. Sure you’ll probably never use 80% of these plugins but even using 20% will cover the cost. And you own them. It’s not a subscription. Certainly don’t need it and it’s still more than a few cents out the pocket but if you’ve got expendable and you produce using DAW’s and digital systems, it’s a really good deal.

I have to chime in on one thing, as a music composer and producer working on video game content - Action Strings, while it was never the best sounding library (nor were Emotive Strings), the all around versatility of the instrument ended up in so many movie/games music scores. I have templates for most of those things, but still when I want to quickly draft a string part, I use action strings quite often. It been almost 10 years now, Action strings + Action Strikes are two unbeatable libraries for quick epic music. You can change sounds later, East West offers better sounds in general, but it is still a great thing to have. Sorry for focusing on one product only, while you are reviewing the entire bundle. On that note, I use Komplete for ages now and while they do tend to cram in some average stuff, overal it is one of the best all arounder stuff you can get.

  • @brotherhorse

So I'm fairly new to music production and enjoyed watching this. I think some of the NI stuff is amazing, and my strategy so far has been to get stuff when it's on offer, so I first got Kontakt 6, when it was on offer (and further discounted after a crossgrade from the free Arcane - Embertone)
I've also just picked up Select, because it came free with the Mashine Mikro Mk3, which was the same price and good fun to use (though not quite as simple to use with Ableton as I'd maybe hoped) and I also REALLY like some of the Expansion Packs..
I'm hoping now that if NI do a summer discount on Standard, I might be able to crossgrade for a reasonable sum from Select?
The other option you haven't mentioned is Komplete Now, which again I'm not sure is great value for money, but it does come with a few extras like Battery, Playbox, Empire Breaks which I don't have yet. And because I got a Focusrite interface, I'm entitled to 3 months free subscription, so I can trial and decide if it's worth investing in the rest?

@@deadlyrobot5179 Netflix is like the Komplete Now collection where they keep updating it per the subscription. The reason there are 14 Kompletes is because the company is constantly evolving and improving, it’s a rather petty argument to harp on the name being akin to ‘Complete’. The truth is, any one of the Ultimate Komplete editions will set you for life, but if you wanna stay on the cutting edge of things you’ll upgrade. Some alternatives to Komplete:
MSoundFactory - the best competitor, but definitely not on the same level yet. It's nice that all the synths and sampled instruments are in the same plugin though. Really has potential.
Orchestral Tools Sine Player - the free libraries are definitely somewhat of an alternative to Komplete if you are only considering free products
Then on the same note... LABS?
Also maybe Soundpaint? Definitely not there yet though.
Also Arturia V Colection I would say is a competitor, though only focused on keys for now

None of these have anywhere near the versatility of Komplete. Komplete is carried by Kontakt, Raum, & MASSIVE X. 90% of these sounds are garbage and outdated. Komplete series only makes sense if you dont have kontakt to begin with. If you do have it, then do your research on what sounds you actually want and just buy that library. This way you wont have 15 libraries where you only use 5 sounds from. Buying a library that has nothing but strings or choirs makes alot more sense than buying a library thats trying to do everything.

So I’ve got collectors 13! I think it’s fantastic *IF* you get on super sale & you don’t own a lot of things.
I effectively got it for 1/3 of the price. To me the ~$200 price difference was worth it for a few reasons:
    - arkhis is worth that alone - it’s quick and easy to create movement straight away (think spitfire evos)
    - I don’t think they’re the best violins but from spitfire & OT it would have cost more then the difference.
    - you’re not going to use all the expansion packs but there was some dnb & bass music which were only available via collectors. I was looking at buying them already as I love my machine.
I’m not saying it’s for everyone- however I do think there’s a lot of value in collectors if you don’t own much stuff, and want to get started with everything you need.

I personaly bought Kontakt 6 full version as a stand alone purchase after I bought Abbey Roads Drummer Collection.
If you have Komplete Standard then the Kontakt Factory library is still OK as a fall-back as Komplete Standard doesn't
come with Session Horns Pro so in that instance Band is still usable if you want saxophones and that's really the idea
of the Kontakt Factory library is to provide you with any sort of instrument. I wouldn't buy Kontakt 7 on it's own but even
if I bought Komplete and upgraded that way I would still do some stuff exclusively with the Factory 2 library. The Kontakt
Factory Selection also has quite a few usable sounds so once I had the full version I was already acquainted with some
of the basses, drums, guitars and some of the World and Synth sounds. Kontakt is still worth buying as a stand alone
purchase even just to be able to free Kontakt libraries that require the full version.

I'm amused you immediately put the factory library 2 in the trash. The reality is that what new stuff they did add is insanely good value. For example, the orchestral samples that were developed by Orchestral tools. Sure, they can be redundant, but their dynamic range is unique enough to be part of my pallet, even though I've spent thousands on other higher-quality orchestras.

    • @mycosys

I got Komplete 13 not long before 14 came out and I eventually ended up upgrading just for a play box lol. Can’t say I regret it, but I will say they did not add very much to justify the update as an entirely new version of Komplete. But for the very few additional tools that I did get out of 14, had I bought them individually it would’ve cost a lot more than the upgrade. That’s how they getcha 😂. But perhaps that’s because I only have the standard version. I would argue however that for someone who doesn’t have any version of this product yet it’s probably worth the money

Much like redeeming bottle deposits in Michigan with free truck rentals, upgrading Komplete during one of their sales (especially the 50% ones) is a total game changer. I've upgraded from 11 through 14 over the years, 50% off at a time up to this most recent 14 Collector's upgrade. Don't regret it one bit.
One thing that's good (or bad) is that with each version, they keep adding a few new expansions/instruments here and there as standard to Komplete. The only downside is that if you previously BOUGHT that instrument or expansion as a standalone? Well, I guess you do lose a little value there - which again is cut in half if you buy it during one of those 50% off sales, like the one going on now as I write this... 😁

    • @nkronert

I have Komplete 12. In truth I have quite a few plugins besides. I don't use it much. (I've had Komplete since 5, sometimes skipping updates, but to be frank, in almost every area, there are better synths and sounds out there. I tend to use Kontakt and Battery, but not their libraries, and I plan to have a good go with FM8 to get my head around FM synthesis. At some point I'll give Massive X a go, though I never got into Massive.)

I understand your points, but you just can’t compete with the content in this bundle for the price. My method of not getting ripped off is to buy every other komplete bundle instead of a new one each year, since you basically get two upgrades for the price of 1 1/2.
Also if you don’t have komplete and are buying it for the first time, you should buy the current version. You will actually lose about $200 (ultimate ver) if you buy the one from the year before and plan on upgrading in the future.
