I was actually there on a Boy Scout Campout and saw this engine running! I screamed like a little kid and jumped up and down! My fellow scouts thought I was nuts. They had no idea!
When we lived in NC we visited this place all the time! It never got old! So nice to see you visiting! The trains here are awesome and you can go inside some of them! NC Transportation Museum in Spencer is the best!!!!
When I first saw the 611 in motion I literally busted in tears because the beauty of her was just unexplainable.... there were no words for the trains beauty.... perfect is the only word I could think of!!😍😍😍
That 611 is what I would call a Beauty ...they have done a great restoration job on her ...very nice ..looks to be some good ones rther in the sheds .Dave
I rode the 611 on 5 trips in the late 80s and early 90s before she was retired in 94. They got her running last year again and I got to finally see her again this year. Its nice to see her running again instead of just sitting in a museum. Thanks for watching Dave!
Spencer and the NCTM is a great place spend so time. Also across the street is a great hobby shop devoted to model trains. The Little Choo Choo. Great video stop by warehouse 3 to see a wonderful N scale layout!
Nice work! I really enjoyed seeing 611 while it was running slowly enough so I could get a good look at it. I also enjoyed the views of the museum there at Spencer. I visited there some years ago, and I hope I can return again someday. Thanks!
What a sleek, shiny beauty! Thanks to these preservation societies for keeping these in the present, as well as the few railroads still running them commercially - Union Pacific, BNSF, any others?
Wish she would come down here with SOU 630 to Atlanta! 😆😎 But hey, at least I got a chance to see her while she was undergoing overhaul back in 2014, and I have the footage to prove it on my N&W 620 cab ride video! 😂😄 She looked unrecognizable at first glance without her streamlining!
now I understand why there exist so many train fans theyre really nice not like a human just like a train haha You recorded very well! great video my friend ;)
Hai Brian, wow, its amazing this video, wat a sound that steamlok.i like to visit that to,crossing fingers, the lotery.lol.thanks.glad to see yor back after that storm mattew.
All the motels were filled up in North Carolina because of the storm. It rained a couple days we were there but this day we got lucky and it was nice although very windy. I am still resting up from all that driving. Tell Tony we said hello and have a great day Peerke!

re.6133 back in feb 1977 amtrak wanted some power, weather related,,,,, a bunch were sent north for inspection, amtrak declined,,,,,,,,,,, they were all in cincy, and were sent south, there are photos on the net of them heading south. 6132 derailed in the sharonville, ohio engine facility. i was there and photoed it , as they re railed it. then they took it to the engine house. all this after its friends had already went south.
When I was 6or7 we would take my aunt th meet the train. I dont remember if it was 611 but I can remember it pulling into thhe station and stopping./ I can still remember the sounds of tthe engin panting and ready to go again. long ago.
Jaw tooth nice caboose! I have the 611 Norfolk&Western engine in O-gauge and the passengers cars there are 8. I don`t understand why the EPA lets them burn coal why not oil?
hi this is walter and beth use the same you tube I have some cool train vedios on csx rj corman and one ns cool vedio by the way I love seeing old trains today I hope to see the new river train misst it yester day did not get to Thurmond in time
Forgive me, but I don't know much about 611. I thought 611 was retired, but obviously I'm wrong. Also, I hate the kind of valve gear 611 has. Too ugly.
611 was retired in 1994 but came out of retirement a couple years ago. It only runs a few times a year in the eastern part of the US. I went to North Carolina to see her run since it had been years since I last saw her. I rode her on 5 different occasions in the 80s and 90s
I was actually there on a Boy Scout Campout and saw this engine running! I screamed like a little kid and jumped up and down! My fellow scouts thought I was nuts. They had no idea!
I wish I knew how many times I have seen the 611 and the others like it when I was growing up.
Big thumbs up for the catch of 611!

Thanks for the great shots of the roundhouse. Great reference material for building one on my layout.
I always wanted to visit there and finally got the chance. This is only part of the video that I shot. Lol

I have taken 5 round trips on her and I agree with you!
man you are sooo lucky!! lol:D
611 looks like a magnificent beast when in steam. A lot of other very interesting rolling stock there too, especially in the roundhouse. Nice video.

I Love Going Up To Spencer I Only Live About An Hour From There And I Love The N&W 611 I Have Chased Her Quite A Bit Over The Past Few Years.
The Shay loco has a beautiful sounding whistle. 611 sounds like a tug boat.

What a catch, Jaw!
