The runners up received a Nintendo Entertainment System(NES) which was a nice consolation prize to walk away with back then. I remember it being such a big item back then.
They should have kept with this format. of course the bonus round it usually in pilot episodes always have a lot more than when it finally goes into production.
Amazing to see this pilot. I recall watching this show in its original run and it is stunning to see how the actual show couldn't generate anywhere near the level of prizes the original show concept hoped to do. $27,000 for one episode of a kids' show? The actual run was lucky to give away $2000.
Screen shots of this episode were used on the board game. Also notice that JD stands to the other side of the contestants. And in the Grand Prix they don't have token pouches. If you watch some of the earlier episodes with the familiar format you'll notice that some of the prize tags still have the bar codes on the back of them.
That girl answering "Leah Thompson" on the Back to the Future question deserved the $25 in my opinion. That was the actress who played Marty McFly's mother.
I went to a taping of this show when I was a kid in the summer of 1988. I never saw the episode broadcast. They studio audience kids get a lot of camera time so I’ve always wanted to see little kid me on film but no luck.
Good God, those prizes are by far the best I've seen in a children's game show. The Australian version gives you a coloring book and a calculator as a prize.
Nope, that's Brian Cummings- he had previously been the announcer/sidekick for the first season of The All-New Let's Make A Deal, also a Telepictures show (pre-Lorimar). And- to be blunt, it's like they were trying to copy BtB 85's Stunt-era Prize Vault for the Fun House: The announcer describes the rooms, there are Bank Cards- I mean tags, there's the Number Jumb- er the Bang the Button room, and one tag will Break the ban- er, be the Power Prize.
Wow, those were some incredible prizes; really ups the excitement to see kids get such great stuff. Too bad they scaled back on the big prizes after this.
Nickelodeon did 2 other shows that were similar to "Fun House." In 1987, they made "Finders Keepers," were 2 teams would find hidden objects in pictures and trash rooms in a big house(set) to find other hidden objects and doing so they received cash and prizes. The winning team would go through the rooms in the house to find clues and received prizes for every room. In 1993, they made "Legends of The Hidden Temple" which in a way was like an archeological version of "Fun House." It started out with 6 teams, then 4, then 2 and then just 1. The winning team would get to go into the temple and try to retrieve a treasure in just 3 minutes. There was no money given to teams, just prizes. The team would get a prize for getting into the temple, they'd receive another prize if they could grab the treasure before time was up and another prize if they could get the treasure out of the temple in time. The other 5 teams received consolation prizes. All in all, to me, "Finders Keepers" would be my #1 choice but "Fun House" would be the runner up. "Legends of the Hidden Temple," was good but I hated the idea of the first 4 teams hardly getting to play after coming all that way. To me that's unacceptable. With "FH" and "FK", both teams got play almost the whole show which is what the experience should really be.
Kyle Wheeler Except that if you got the Power Prize tag, you didn’t win it right away; you’d then had to answer a question correctly at home base in order to do so.
@LittleRockElevators There were hosts even younger than JD doing game shows-- Hal Sparks was only 18 when he did Treasure Mall, the hosts of the original Wild and Crazy Kids were at least 15, and Maria Sansone was only 13 when she co-hosted Gladiators 2000 with a pre-American Idol Ryan Seacrest.
I imagine myself as the new host of fun house. But with the guy who played uncle beano as the announcer taking place of tiny & mc. And kissing the cheerleaders on the cheek for good luck
Why did Fun House needed to have an announcer with on-camera exposure, like John "Tiny" Hurley, not Johnny Gilbert, despite the fact that he has announced nearly every single show from Lorimar-Telepictures?
Devan Safer I agree , cause they only give you 1 minute to do the obsticle course, at least fun house they gave you 2 minutes & I always liked the grand prix race & also you answered questions & did stunts , not like double dare naswer the question or take the physical challenge which they always pererred but then if your challenge didn't succeed the other team won the money
William B While on its adult counterpart College Mad House, each team member had 30 seconds to grab as many tags as they could; getting all 13 would win them a vacation. But on Family Double Dare, completing the obstacle course in less than a minute would win the family a new car!!! (one of the obstacles on the Fox version would also feature a cash bonus)
It’s time for Fun House sponsored by British Knights get off on the right foot get off in BK for guys gals and kids too British Knights the right move for you
25k in prizes? LOL, I guess they had to scale that down big time if they were going to stay in production
Usually when it comes to pilot episodes they give away a lot more.but yeah my opinion that's a little too much especially for kids
Wow! Thanks for this! I remember watching this when I was a kid. Fun House was definitely a great kids game.
This is early episodes? They only can take 2 prize
The runners up received a Nintendo Entertainment System(NES) which was a nice consolation prize to walk away with back then. I remember it being such a big item back then.
I have been looking for this for a long time! TYVM!
Holy Crap !!! The pilot had expensive nice prizes !!
They should have kept with this format. of course the bonus round it usually in pilot episodes always have a lot more than when it finally goes into production.
"Fun House is a Ron Greenberg production, in association with Lorimar-Telepictures!"
There were 2 Nickelodeon shows with a big place for the kids to go through, "Finders Keepers" 1987 and "Legends of the Hidden Temple" 1993.

Jd roth was the host on the game show endurance seasons 1-5
I love the cheerleaders Jacqueline and Samantha. I think of them as fantasy girlfriends.
@greenwater735
In reruns AND a revival. I agree.
Good God, those prizes are by far the best I've seen in a children's game show. The Australian version gives you a coloring book and a calculator as a prize.
I think you meant the UK version
2:54 The timer starts before J.D. says "Go".
That Bobbing for Bagels game is exactly like the 1989 UK game Dunking For Doughnuts except for one thing in the UK version is they didn't wear goggles
Douglas Emerson would come back for the first episode of "Fox's Fun House" as a celebrity (representing Beverly Hills, 90210).
I think they should have kept the area where you hit the button and win bonus money.
@rodney1279
Most of it is in prizes. Besides, Family Game Night offers tons of money, too.
The hub should get fun house uk and USA, and possibly revive the fun house. That would be one sweet station if they ever did!
Fun house is like a combination of double dare & finders keepers.
Fun fact the company who made it stone Stanley productions (or stone television production) also made legends of the hidden temple
The 'eggcrate' scoreboards were slightly changed for the first season.
Such good memories
@arhsmacdude, They have to get JD Roth and someone else permition to do it.
Oh man! Back when game shows were all the rage and actually worth watching!!!! Check out J.D. Roth's mullet! I want my #80s back!
We all want the 80s back!
Is there another fun house pilot episode?
Buzzr needs to get their hands on this show.
Warner Bros. owns Fun House (and its weekly spinoff College Mad House), so no.
@Digifan23 I agree with you Fun House should be on TheHub network.

Oddly enough, in the San Francisco market, KTVU carried both BTB '85 and FH. Same thing with WSBK in Boston.
Jacki & Samantha, Jd did not say Twin Cheerleaders.
How old where the twin cheerleaders back in 1988 on fun house Thewhammy 83
I believe they were 20.
And Jd was 19.
The twins were born in the fall of 1967 & JD was born in the spring of 1968.
Is that the same SFX from "The Krypton Factor"?
yes it is
Wow, those were some incredible prizes; really ups the excitement to see kids get such great stuff. Too bad they scaled back on the big prizes after this.
If Nickelodeon should revive Fun House.

Do you have more Funhouse episodes? I have many fun house clips from both the United Kingdom and the US
Just a pilot, a local premiere special, and a UK one.
@@thewhammy83
what season is the uk?
I'm serious. Sammi & Jackie are 54 & JD is 53.
when did the pool come into the fun house
Season 2
Wish the US version aired in the UK
Why? The UK version is way much better than the US version
Kyle Wheeler Except that if you got the Power Prize tag, you didn’t win it right away; you’d then had to answer a question correctly at home base in order to do so.
I have to say that is quite true
Have to admit the UK version was pretty awesome
@@johnnyballenatl And the kids couldn't win money on the UK version
J.D. was only 19 when he did the pilot, correct?
@LittleRockElevators There were hosts even younger than JD doing game shows-- Hal Sparks was only 18 when he did Treasure Mall, the hosts of the original Wild and Crazy Kids were at least 15, and Maria Sansone was only 13 when she co-hosted Gladiators 2000 with a pre-American Idol Ryan Seacrest.
Yes & the twin cheerleaders were 20.
I imagine myself as the new host of fun house. But with the guy who played uncle beano as the announcer taking place of tiny & mc. And kissing the cheerleaders on the cheek for good luck
I wonder why they didn't choose Rod Roddy to be the announcer on Fun House?
Rod was busy announcing "The Price is Right".
Brock Schul
Because he had his hands full with TPIR.
The announcer sounds like Jim Thornton from Wheel of Fortune
Because it's hard for a young adult like J.D. to use a 60+-year-old man as a sidekick.
Why did Fun House needed to have an announcer with on-camera exposure, like John "Tiny" Hurley, not Johnny Gilbert, despite the fact that he has announced nearly every single show from Lorimar-Telepictures?
$25,000 for a kid is a lot of money for a kid on fun house.
Some may accuse me of blasphemy for saying this, but I liked Fun House much more than double dare
They're both good,can't decide.

@MrLogoman007 IT IS!!!
@Digifan23 You can forget about GSN. GSN is wack! TheHub sounds like a possibility.
Uk: hold my beer
It’s time for Fun House sponsored by British Knights get off on the right foot get off in BK for guys gals and kids too British Knights the right move for you
I believe that's Bob Hilton.
Linda Gimbert
Not even close. It was Brian Cummings.
