    what is texture?

This answer is 3 years late but I hope it helps future viewers. Texture is when there is a preferred orientation of grains within a material sample. When there is no preferred orientation, the grains within the sample are oriented randomly, and the chance to find a grain in one orientation is the same as any other orientation. When there is preferred orientation, which can be induced by processes such as cold-work or wire drawing where the grains are deformed to prefer a specific orientation to accommodate the deformation, certain XRD peaks are reflected more than others. This may cause the intensity ratio of peaks to change, where 111 is the strongest peak in a non-textured sample, it could be 200 in a textured sample because more 200 grains are perpendicular to the X-rays. This strongest peak is also dependent on the measuring face. In a textured plate-like sample, the most intense peak may be 100 in one face, but flip it over 90 degrees and it may be 010.
