I have a 98 LSC creampuff with 66k miles now and was owned by elderly folks that loved the car, but as a result there are nicks, scuffs, dings on the bumpers and doors from them being 90 years old and not the best drivers anymore, and its why they sold the car. The car cleans up nicely, and the interior in mine is great with the grey leather with heated seats, matching the silver exterior with chrome turbine wheels which are the same. I highly recommend turning off the feature where the seat moves when you lean it forward, and also turn off the steering wheel entry feature, because the seat motors burn out, and the potentiometer within the steering wheel goes out and it stops moving. There are people who rebuild them, and people who actually rebuild the seat tracks and motors on these cars to make them work like new. My engine is perfect and everything was new on it when I bought it, and you could eat off of it.
Beware of the front light fixtures.. the circular plastic cover that goes over the HID bulbs will leak through time and moisture will get into the fixture. I had to pick up a replacement for that reason, and the fix is to seal that cover with silicone. Luckily I found someone who is a treasure trove and collector of these cars and parts, and I bought an extra set of HID bulbs from them, and other goodies to enhance the performance of the car.
While I prefer the looks and features of Gen 2 (97-98) the Gen 1 models were more aggressive with the tune and had a different intake manifold, and they were definitely quicker no doubt. I have a 94 that was beat to shit with 260k plus miles and it was starting to fall apart, but it felt like it would have run circles around my 98 creampuff while stock.
I am still on the original air suspension and want to keep it that way as long as possible. Quality air shocks are hard to find though, so I may need to convert to coil overs in the future. Be very watchful of the front suspension especially the lower ball joints.. If they wear too much, they will snap and that could be disastrous while driving. It happened on my Tbird (same car basically) and happened on my 94 both times pulling into a driveway. When you change out the parts in the front end, do all of the parts and get them from supercoupeperformance.com so you dont have to worry about the quality of the parts, and then you can get better bushings that will make the car handle better, and they last way longer. Its good to redo the rear end of the car as well, and it will literally feel like new after!

Nice car. The random things TH-cam recommends... Hey. It reminds me a bit of my 1st car, a '97 Grand Prix GTP with black leather. This has held up far better though.

Always loved the "cockpit design" of the dashboard. Maybe it's because I'm an MD 11 pilot. At any rate, I can't believe that style of dashboard didn't take off. It appeared in concept vehicles from other manufacturers but to my knowledge, Ford/ Lincoln is the only one to put it into production. Enjoy the car!

My 2015 Honda Civic has a similar "cockpit" style layout, I love it, especially being a planespotter it fits my persona LOL. I hope you enjoy your MD11 rating, the last of the mighty trijets, the last of McDonnell Douglas(not counting the MD95 which was turned into the 717, but everyone knows it's the MD95)

Its actually a neon light in the rear for the 97 and 98. They are prone to moisture getting in them and the ballast goes out, but there are replacements where you have an adjustment dial and can have the light running much brighter than stock. On my 98 LSC, I pulled the rear light off and re-glued the top seal in place, and then used 1/2" wide window seal which helps keep water from running down the back of the fixture and keeps the ballast (original on mine) in good shape. I also ran silicon around all the corners and length wise top and bottom to seal it. Its a good idea usually to drill small drain holes at the bottom corners in case moisture gets in it, but I sealed mine so well it should be fine. Finally when you take the fixture off, be careful the nuts dont get lost inside the trunk panel. The studs on the light fixture are prone to snapping off so be careful because they are brittle and you dont want to lose any. I glued my loose ones back in place, and then over a 3 day period, retrofitted it with JB weld, with 4 applications. I did the same thing to the studs that were not broken so they would be retrofitted, and I was able to put the fixture back on with confidence since the studs are in place better than they were from the factory. There are people that rebuild these fixtures, and some have used LED's, but I prefer the neon since its unique. If you pull off your neon, hit me up with your email and Ill send you the pics of what I did to my rear neon.
