I have some decently valuable Bret memorabilia and collectibles so yeah, my willingness to invest more money into Bret than most should indicate that I’m a big supporter of his. However, I cannot deny (based on all that was said about Bret over the years), it’s so hard to deny that Bret was his own biggest mark and he took himself too seriously. You still get that impression by listening to his interviews to this day. I mean, you can’t entirely blame him. The wrestling industry consisted of many top notch stars that were protective of their reputation and their place on the card. As much as Bret wants to talk crap about Hogan, in certain ways, the two weren’t very different.

@MKD58 Media Bret just wanted another reason to complain and be a victim. That's all his career is based off of. He victimized himself over Wrestlemania, over losing the title in general, over helping others go over, over his brother's death, over the company telling him no, all of that. He wanted what he wanted and if anyone told him no and fought back he would make an ass out of himself to embarrass the company. But the fact he also made himself a victim after Owen's death is kind of messed up. It wasn't just his brother died and he was devastated, he straight up made his brother's death into a shoot

Bret was in the right. Bret's 3rd title run consisted of a roll-up win over Diesel and getting powerbombed to oblivion post-match, a roll-up win over Bulldog, two no-contests against Taker, and another tainted victory against Diesel. He looked weak heading into the match against Shawn. i loved Bob Backlund. as kid he was the first wrestler that was "my guy". i was a nerdy redhead young teen that loved amateur wrestling. so it was no shock I'd like someone like that.
then when Brett came in a singles wrestler i had the same instant liking of him. mainly because for me his technical wrestling combined with his speed and athleticism was something
i want used to. obviously, we all know what a storied and mount Rushmore level career he had. that's why why i found stories like this and the stories of him refusing to lose to Shawn
in Canada (leading to the screw job. which i still think should've been handled differently.) difficult to believe and accept. sadly, most of the stories were true. so do we fans ignore the behind the scenes drama when deciding who the best or favorite wrestlers are? and Brett, you know thesuper-kick is in Goldberg's limited arsenal. you knew it was coming. i don't see how you can fully blame Bill for your inability to take a super-kick at that stage of your career? get over it. love you Brett.

People talk about Bret Hart in this super sympathetic way because of his issues and obstacles, but let's not lie here. Bret Hart was just as bad as Hulk Hogan for trying to be perpetually held on a pedestal, and his tactic of constantly whining when the world didn’t deliver for him is just insufferable. He still runs around blaming Goldberg for his issues, even though he continued wrestling for weeks after the Starcade match. Even his heel turn in WWF was based around him grabbing a mic without approval and ranting against the fans for not cheering him the way he thought they should.
Granted, Nash and the Kliq always cast themselves as the good guys when they were clearly villains in real life, but it doesn't mean Bret Hart has more ground to stand on.

Don't blame Bret one bit for not wanting to look weak going into Mania vs Shawn. Otherwise, nobody would believe that old man Bret would be able to beat the much younger and faster HBK and wouldn't have bought the tickets.

I agree with Bret. Taking the powerbomb definetly makes it look like he has lost the match. He took the Undertakers Tombstone at the previous In Your House, taking Diesels finish, and suddenly Bret is a chump who doesn't deserve his championship. Not a good look for a face.

    • @bane3991

@@bane3991 Yes, there are three others in this situation. Bret took Undertaker's finish at In Your House, he's going to take Shawns at WrestleMania, and I agree that taking Diesels powerbomb as well would essentially kill him off as a credible champion.
Not nearly as bad or as selfish as typical a typical Hogan or Shawn Michaels power play.

Let's put the number of people Bret put over vs the number Bret didn't. And you see a clear pattern there.
Nash couldn't utter a single word against Bret in front of Steve Austin on his podcast though! Was only gushing over Bret!

Nash is mostly fluff when he tells a story. However, even if this story didn't happen, it would make sense for Bret to take the powerbomb seeing that Taker was going to interfere before the 3 count. It gives Bret/Nash another go-around in the future. As well as set up a Hart/Taker feud. On top of the Taker/Nash feud.

You hear the stories of how Bret demanded privilege although the WWF hated his point of view. But then you see later on with what they did with HHH. Makes you think Bret's privilege wasn't at all too crazy.

I am kind of with Bret here. He was visually losing to Taker at Rumble then to Diesel here. He’s being booked as a champion ss a face who’s just lucky the other guys future opponent is bailing him out every time. How many times did this happen to Hogan? Austin? Cena?

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Nash I mean he blew off a house show I was supposed to see him in the Undertaker fight in a cage match so that always kind of pissed me off and I just feel like he just genuinely doesn't give a shit. But from the stuff that I've heard about Bret Hart I don't doubt this one bit because I feel like he does think the world revolves around him I think that's why him and Shawn Michaels clashed they had so much in common they were both cocky and thinking the world revolves around them

I believe Bret took more than just 1 powerbomb from Nash right after winning the WWF championship at Survivor Series. So Bret doesn't have a problem taking a finisher. There's a good reason why he's refusing the finisher this time. Bret's 3rd championship, he really was made to look like a weak champion. He got beat real bad during the match at SS then got powerbombed right after winning the title then his title defense are ending with outside interference. What's the point of giving him the jack knife again?

They had Diesel cost Taker the title at RR, when he had Bret beat, then they did the same in the cage match the next month, when Taker cost Diesel the title against Bret. Seems like Bret had a reason not to be happy about it. A month later he had to drop the belt to Shawn, before Shawn told him to gtfo of his ring
