Mine bricked close to 2 year mark. Never buying another SD until they get this fixed. Way too many bricked SD's the past 2 years. Got the odin 2 instead.
Have you tried dock mode? I ask because those problems have been going on with OLED and LCD models. Many were able to access the device through dock mode. Try to update the bio, hard reset, or even change the OS. Some managed to fix it through dock mode but sadly, for the majority of them, it didn't work on their end.
I have had random crashes as well with my steam deck, but it only happens with specific games, mainly Call of Duty 4 (The original one) and Apex Legends. After playing a little bit, the games randomly crash and SteamOS reboots. Thankfully so far my deck is still alive. I've also had an issue with my SD card where it randomly broke about a month after using it with my deck. I wasn't able to access it at all, it wasn't a partition table issue. Thankfully after buying a second SD card it has worked perfectly for the last 6 months so that was most likely just a faulty one, not a deck issue
Yes, gotta back up SD cards, cuz you never know. People buying unreliable, cheap, slow cards, it's one of the reasons companies just don't want to deal with troubleshooting card issues. The main reason is money: overpriced storage and or cloud services (also not SD card quick or airways accessible). Even my worst sd cards were name brand and took years before death. I started buying exclusively sandisk extreme and none of those have died yet. Extreme are fast, but that's better for high Def pics, vid. I realized extreme has shock and water protection, but doesn't have heat protection, so I've taken to buying the outdoor or endurance sd cards, which are slower to also see about what's longest lasting.
@@Earthling247 You've obviously not used computers enough then. Everything crashes once in a while. 99% of software will have bugs. Especially operating systems
One issue that a lot of SD owners, especially the fans (a looot of them are hardcore fans), overlook is how easily your Micro SD card can get corrupted. I had a 512 gb Sony one that got corrupted after I did a factory reset (I kept having issues with games not running properly on the steam deck itself, my SD card though ran things fine though) with the card still inside. Apparently this messed up the driver(s) or something on the SD card and the way it mounted because when I tested the card to see if it was functional with software on my computer, it was. It showed as a healthy micro sd card. It just didn't want to mount or work as intended no matter how many times I reformatted it or tried all the suggestions the Steam Deck community suggested. It essentially bricked my SD card and I couldn't use it at all with the SD or any other device and apparently from all the forums I visited it wasn't a rare thing. I was so pissed cause I had emulators, games, so much set up that was just gone now. No matter who I told be it Valve themselves or the forums on reddit and other forums dedicated to Steam Deck issues and troubleshooting them, no one could help. Honestly the worst part was at the end of the day it kept getting shrugged off as "it happens" all because it's the Steam Deck and people meat ride it so damn bad. I was so damn in love with this console and when this happened I just shelved the damn thing. Had it in it's case for a few months after this before I decided to just sell it altogether and buy a Legion GO. This is one of those issues that is hard to overlook and yet the die hard fans do just that. In the forums I saw a dude who got his 1tb SD card bricked just like mine and people just told him it was his San disk and how there were rampant reports of fake Micro SD cards and all this other bs. Instead of accepting the damn steam deck was the cause they would rather blame it on it being a fake SD card even when he proved it wasn't. That's one of the problems with this community. They're so damn narrow minded because of how hard they love Valve that they overlook huge issues like the Micro SD card bricking issues, which btw based off that dude who got his 1tb Micro SD card bricked has been happening since around the launch of the Steam Deck. Considering I had got mind around the beginning of 2023 and there was still no fix it has been happening for over a year now. That's insane for such a major issue like this. It's ridiculous that Valve can focus on small issues but hasn't even really addressed the SD card bricking issue, at least not in the way you would expect. If you don't believe me about any of this, search it up, it's all there in the forums.
Once I was scared too but was only dead,(nothing on screen but there was visible light kind of like in yours but steady)can't switch on, but reinstall of the system helps. I don't remember if I have to got usb stick with steam recovery os first, and plug in and then start procedure of bringing this thing to life. It's kinda worth of trying first before you send it off to valve.
i had mine for nine months and in this one time,i got a fatal error saying, "fatal error, steam needs 256mb to update. Since i only got the 64 gigabyte version of the deck due to cheap reasons,my steam deck was done for,but thanks to a youtube tutorial,i factory resetted the console holding down the power button and the quick access menu,Then i pressed erase all user data, and my steam deck was back alive.
Mine bricked last night, had it for 2 months. it doesn't do a thing. I put it down to feed my dog and it was bricked when I got back. I just started running the steam 3.6 beta 2 days ago and i just had installed a punkbuster download/update to play BF4 online that morning. It had crashes all throughout since I got it though. Very disappointed. I haven't had a console break since the OG PS3 and I've never had a handheld break, ever. What a POS.
the crashes were not normal. i had mine since the very beginning and i had like 1 or 2 crashes and they were kind of forced because i was tinkering with it. outside of that i had no problems with stability whatsoever. also i have linux on a desktop pc (for gaming) and there are no crashes there as well. unless the game is VERY incompatible with the compatibility layer, but in those cases the game will crash, not the whole system. hope vavle replace/fix it quickly.
I also have the oled steam deck and sometimes encountered these hard crashes where it would out of nowhere just completly shuts down but recently i didnt have those problems anymore
I was dealing with random crashes and things like EmuDeck just outright not functioning (which was hella confusing to me why everyone was recommending it.) I just put up with the issues until I got an ssd replacement since i got the cheap steam deck with plans to upgrade it over time. When my 2tb ssd got here and I put it in, I flashed SteamOS to the drive and that was around two weeks ago. The thing just outright runs better. Firstly I think that perhaps a 64gb drive isn't enough for a device like the steam deck, but also I think that perhaps the cards they ship it with are lower quality, or perhaps the OS flashing that they do before sending them out isn't done properly. Regardless, while expecting someone to have to reflash the OS on their $40 Powkiddy or Anbernic handheld really isn't asking much, it's kind of just plain silly that the OS shipped with the Steamdeck needs to be reinstalled in order for it to function properly.
So I'll make a follow up video but spoiler alert, it was an issue with the 64GB drive. Now why it wouldn't go to the bios even when forcing it with that drive installed is beyond me. Removing it made it behave as normal.
@@TG_Geek Yeah, those drives are complete garbage. I put the 64gb i got out of it into a server machine I have laying around and any servers I try to run from the card just run awfully. the disk seems to be completely healthy and fine when I ran tests on it though, so I really have no idea. I'm not a genius with hardware either but I'm just gonna bet money that the 64gb drive is from a cheapo shitty Chinese fab. Hell, maybe all of the ones they shipped with the deck are, and perhaps only the 64s have issues to this degree? It's hard to say, though. All my friends and everyone else I've spoken to about the issues I've been having don't have any of the issues and none of them bought the 64gb drive, so at the very least, there is some strong correlation there. I love my Deck but simultaneously, more and more as time goes on, I'm noticing some really critical flaws with the device. I'm hoping the OLED and whatever SuperExtremePRO version comes next fix them, but it'll be years before I buy another steam deck to see.
That feels sad, I hope your RMA will turn out okay. Do you think the swap of back shell may have helped to your issue? I have the same back plate replacement you have but I have the Steam Deck OLED...
I’ll make an update video but the shell wasn’t the cause of the issues. I got everything sorted out but the ssd got corrupted and wouldn’t boot into bios with it in place. Removing it I was able to boot into bios and reinstall OS.
Mine keeps crashing too. This device is crap despite what everyone else seems to think. Hope you get it resolved, mate. Probably a matter of time before mine becomes an expensive paperweight. Never again would I trust Valve. Frustrating doesn't begin to describe it, does it.
well u obviously didnt win the silicon lottery, yea its sad u wont have access to a steam deck for however long it will take before a replacement arrives, but its not the end of the world, i would be grateful if it broke down anytime before the warranty.
that sucks man, good luck with a quick RMA recovery, i've heard nothing but good things about valves RMA process
I've had mine for about a year and a half, replaced the 64 GB SSD with a 512 GB., dual booted Windows 11. Thankfully, I haven't had any issues.
I’ve had my steam deck for about 1.5 years now, my start button doesn’t work anymore so those back grip buttons are a godsend.
I had mine for over 1 year and 6 month only thing went bad on me is the fan I replace it, don't think is valve fault what happen to mine.
