    Getting into Carcass with the Heartwork album, I guess I didn’t realize at the time just how quickly their stylistic shift had happened. To go from Reek in ‘88 through SOS in ‘89, Tools and Necroticism by ‘91 and then Heartwork in ‘93 is just mind boggling to think about now given how different all of those records sound. You’d think that was 15 years of music if you didn’t know better. I was so bummed when I heard they broke up that later on when the record store I worked in got copies of Swansong i became a huge fan of that album too - just because it was like hearing something from beyond the grave. I didn’t think the album would ever be released. Glad these guys reformed and are still making good music - can’t wait for Torn Arteries to be released 🤘

    Pioneer and living legend of Grindcore. Met Bill at a Kreator concert in Milton Keynes, UK (1989 i think...) - he was just stood next to me in the audience enjoying the show, I was drunk enough and cheeky enough to ask him to confirm his identity - which he did with a smile and shook my hand. My friend joked with him about coming to see Kreator to get some guitar tips - he laughed and was very humble - great guy!!!!

    I was bitten by the Napalm Death/Carcass bug in 1989. I saw ND at their first ever performance in the States at CBGB but unfortunately by that time Bill and Lee Dorian were already gone. Bill was always the most talented member of the two bands and I always loved his vocals. He seems very likable and down to earth. Thanks for the upload. I reek of putrefaction!

    Love Bill Steer, his writing and guitar work is just phenomenal. I started playing 20 years ago and he's one of those guys who's had such an inspirational influence on me over the time. Those rocky riffs on Carcass' album 'Swansong' ended up teaching me so much back in the day, really fun to learn and play. He's very open and forthcoming in interviews just like here, a real quality bloke. The metal just wouldn't be the same without him.

    You know it's really funny he says he was trying to push Swansong to a more rocky kind of vibe, because I was listening to it the other day and couldn't help but think there was a little bit more groove in there than their prior work. Especially their older work. But there's some RAD riffs in Swansong. Even if it wasn't as gnarly as their other stuff, it was just a fun sounding album. Definitely a little disenchanted maybe, but the final product somehow became something more than they maybe intended on making it.

    speed isn't everything.Swansong is their best album and they don't even play it live.
    it's the most well written album musicly and lyrically.the lyrics are relevant to what's going on in the world today.i tried to find one live clip of any swansong material live and still searching....unreal

    • @Admiral_Bongo
      @Admiral_Bongo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd disagree, really. Lyrics have always seemed kinda forced and lazy on it to me. Relevant? Maybe, kind of. Interesting, refreshing? Not really. The overall songwriting was heavily simplified in comparison to Necroticism and Heartwork. It represented exactly what the band was at the time - tired and bored. To each their own, though.

    • @scorpiocurse7969
      @scorpiocurse7969 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but no. Swansong has its moments, but overall the songwriting is really bead, is a really uninspired album. It has nothing to do with the rock influences, take entombed's wolverine blues, they took a similar direction on that, but it is a spectacular record with amazing songwriting. I think carcass had a hell of a return with Surgical steel, they kept some of the hard rock oriented stuff on swansong, but the composition is stellar.
