A 52 year old guy here and the first bike I ever had was a 1977 Suzuki RM 50. Still love it to this day although I have upgraded to a HONDA XR 650 L for scooting around the mountains of Idaho. 🫵
@aaronzimmerman1089 ... Scooting around OK, TX, Ar.... Right with ya Brother! 2021 XR650L here... Eventually up in the Montana and Idaho region I will be, scooting! 👍
Omg ! as a collector and major Suzuki fan , this find has me envy ! I been lucky with my finds and my collection is top notch , but have been really thinking of collection all of the 80s from back in the day ! you just convinced me to do so ! thanks again for another awesome video ! Merry Christmas to everyone at Kaplan Cycle
The 79 RM80 was faster than 1980 RM 80 and the best looking one. Back then I had to friends that were brothers and one had a 79 and the other had 80 and the 79 would beat the 1980 all the time in a straight line. The 1980 handle better in the trails. I had a 81 CR80 and the 79 use to give me a fit on the street lol. The good ole days.
@@piehole63 Dam! That's amazing that you still have it. Every time I see a 1980 or 81 CR80 on TH-cam I get so emotional because I had so much fun riding with my friends as a kid. Dude it was like a gang of us kids riding our dirt bikes in the trails.
What wonderful memories , I bought a brand new RM 250 in 1977 with money I had saved up from my paper routes , I combined 3 routes into one. I used to have two bags of papers on the bars and one hanging around my neck , six days a week. I was only 17 when I bought the bike so my older brother had to sign for me , even though I had a handful of cash a motor vechicle could only legally be sold to a adult. GOD BLESS , love this channel.
I owned a 1978 and a 1979 RM 80. I especially loved the '78 as it was the first real motocross bike I ever owned. The thing was a rocket. I kept mine stock and it would outrun the modified 80's of the day. I could sit and stare at that thing for days and is still my favorite bike I've owned to this day.
That’s awesome. I had the ‘77 RM100, and my friend had the ‘79 RM100. For some reason the ‘79 didn’t seem as fast in the low end. I road a ‘78 RM125 back then, and from what I remember, the ‘78s seemed faster than the ‘79s. Do you remember that? Maybe Suzuki mellowed out the ‘79s a tad? I had a 1980 RM80 that was a screamer though. Exactly like the one he rolled off here, minus the aftermarket shocks and rear sprocket. Of all the ‘70s RMs, the ‘78s were my favorite year.
To work for you must be a dream seeing all the older dirt bikes that come through. I remember looking in a book when I was a little boy & seeing a blue scrambler - I can’t remember what it was ( like ts 100 or something like that ) that just left the image of a cool looking bike & still love the older stuff now. This would have been early 80s
Never got it, but i begged for the '79 RM80. The square fender look set it apart from the rest. How bikes like that survived is amazing. I knew plenty of kids back then that would literally destroy a brand new bike in one riding season.
The kid across the street had a RM80 and I had never seen anything like that. I started riding the next year I got a RM 100 for my 16th birthday January 1981.
Ken ,i wonder if you truly realise how happy you make people when you introduce these bikes to your subscribers ,soon as i saw that XR200 it took me back to a better time a less stressful time in my life ,i still recall having to ask my older brother to help me unscrew that petrol cap and help me put a jerry can of petrol in ,my hands were too small to unscrew that cap and a full jerry was too heavy for me ,miss that bike and i really miss my brother ,god bless
Of that group of bikes I’ve ridden a few. The ‘73 XR75, the Wombat and the RM125. I’d declare all of them a hoot to ride, even as an adult. You send them they go !
Everything you all do is amazing. In another lifetime, I'd have spent my youth in moto every opportunity I had, then begged you guys for a job just to be around bikes bikes bikes!!!!
Back in the 70s, my hero was Roger DeCoster and my dad bought me a Suzuki so I could race it at a young age and then he turned around and bought the 400 Widowmaker that was one bad motorcycle back in the day. That’s why they called it and you had to respect it the Widowmaker😊
Very nice video. It’s good to see these examples were respected and preserved. As a child we couldn’t afford such machines with the exception of the Hodaka. My father bought one off a coworker and I rode it like ABC Wide World of Sports was filming the thrill of victory part of their opening. I can hear Jim McKay echoing in my blue metal flake helmet when I see a toaster tank.
I remember my first ride on a RM 80. I got on it thinking it was a toy after riding my 250cc yamaha. I wound the throttle open and up came the front wheel into 2nd and up came the wheel. What a beast for 80cc I absolutely love it. Thanks Ken
Just about the time my interest in motocross sparked off 1980. I was 6 years old. Used to watch the American Sports Cavalcade on time warner cable. I preferred that over Saturday morning cartoons. lol
OMG what beauties!! my first Bike was a 1978XR 75 and BOY did I ride that thing into the ground man I wish I would’ve just garaged it and kept it all these years to give to you guys to mint it out
Trailer full of NOS motorcycles, xmas has arrived at Kaplan Cycles! What a sight to behold I love seeing a full load of barn fresh bikes rolling out but this is something else, those Suzukis are so darn clean what an incredible collection! Love the colours on the XR75, and the hotrod XR75 is super classic looking can't beat the red, gold, black combo. Museum looking fresh with the snow, thanks for sharing.
I had a 74 XR75, rode that thing as hard as I could for 2 years straight and the only thing that broke on it was the pipe right where the muffler starts. Hit a big ol jump and when I landed it just snapped. Next was a 76 RM100 the only year the 100 had the down pipe. It was the same bike as the 75 RM125 just down 25cc. Then when I turned 15 I went and bought a brand new 79 RM400 that I still own. Love that Bike and will never sell it. Maybe I will someday if the moneys right. Seeing those bikes come off the truck gave me many flashbacks, good and bad ones. Good times
Wow! I thought you weren't allowed to open Christmas parcels until Christmas Eve at the earliest 🙂 What a gift for us viewers! It hurt a bit to see the motorcycles on the damp asphalt. A red carpet would have been appropriate! Greetings from Germany
Team Kaplan, do it again, just like most of the comments its time warp time, and turning up at the races with all the new bikes at the beginning of a season as a kid. I think those bikes are not going to be at the shop very long. Great job, have a wonderful Christmas to all at team Kaplan, sending motocross love from your friends in Ireland.
I owned 3 of those bikes as a kid - Modded 78 XR75 - DG Pipe - Powroll Big Bore Kit, Fox Shocks - 77 RM 100 with a 125 top end - 1980 RM80 - EC Birt tricked out
Dam, it's crazy that back in 1980 when I was 10yrs old I had friends that had 1980 RM 80, 79 RM 80, 80 KX 80 and both Honda XR 75. I had a 1981 CR 80. Back then you would've never thought these bikes would be classics especially the XR 75.
I believe the kx80 is a 1979. My first bike was the 73 xr75 and my second was the 79 kx80 because they were cheap. This was in the early 2000's and I would dream of owning something with a plastic tank. Now I wish I kept them for my kids
My best friend had the RM80 1980 and the first kx I ever road was the 1980 when I started riding motorcycles those were the best out wow those bikes bring back good memories
