I rescued a baby pigeon from the sidewalk in the hot summer of New York City, and afterwards the pigeon ended up rescuing me by making me smile every day in the morming, as I open my eyes.

I used to raise pigeons. This is awesome!
Both Mom and Dad pigeon raises their babies together. Infact they are mostly compared with modern parents who has equal responsibility to raise their children. Mother pigeons sit on the eggs from around the evening to the morning while Dad pigeon sits on the egg from the time Mom pigeon leaves after her shift to the time Mom pigeons comes back to have her night shift. And when the babies are quite small, Mom pigeons and Dad pigeons feed the baby , as the babies sort of has their complete feathers , the Dad pigeon takes over the whole feeding, while the Mom pigeon prepares her body to lay their next eggs. Domesticated pigeon babies also get fed by their Dad pigeon up until their next babies are hatched which takes 19 days , such babies will be very healthy.

You haven't seen Modena pigeons. They almost look designed for hugging.
Its pretty amazing they move over to the plant for cover sometimes
these birds are very smart, not the absolute smartest birds out there like corvids, but we chose to domesticate pigeons to do things like be our mailmen for a reason lol they can learn extremely well

I feed my neighbourhood's pidgeons everyday and I love those guys. Many people hate them though and some precautions need to be taken: I feed them only 1x day, always at the same time and in the middle of the garden, which is safer for them.

Theres something wrong in description, theres definitly should be daddy piegon too as both pigeon parents take care of the nest and switch 2 times a day (male at day, female at night), fact that both of them might be blue bars it might be hard to distingish the two. Female alone would have problem to startup the nest

+ellengan09 There definitely mommy and daddy, if you look closely mommy (which sit on nest at night) has small sports on upper part of the wings, while daddy sitting at day has solid color

90% of pigeons in cities die in their first year of their lifes. The others don't live longer than 2-3 years.
In nature, they can live up to 12-15 years !
They have nothing to eat, they are forced to eat trash and they freeze to death.
Pigeons can NOT live naturally in cities. They are only here because of breeders !!

I have Pigeons in my flower planter box as of the 9th. 1st hatchling was born today, then I noticed the other egg had been pushed about 1 1/2 feet out of the nest. Does that mean that it's not going to hatch, or possibly another Pigeon is starting a nest in there too next to where the mother is caring for the new hatchling? Any recommendations. They are just so 'Adorable'. Worried about the egg that is by itself, but Mother won't get up off new hatchling so I can make sure it's not a new egg there...Thanks for All who 'Reply'. Feeling blessed. Lived here for 15 years and this is the first time such has happened...
Miss Teri I know Im late. 8 months late. The egg pushed out will be infertile. The birds have a way of knowing which ones contain life.

I have pigeons with a nest on my balcony. I put some kids toys out and they built a nest and laid from what I see 2 eggs.. . But I wont disrupt it let them nest and wait for babies to grow up and leave.... how long?

Hi! So I live in NYC and there are a pair of pigeons about 5 stories up in front of my window that sleep over night there. It literally just looks so uncomfortable and I want to build them something like this. I named them Sully and Sara 😂 if I make a box and put it on the ledge, will they prefer it do the plain ledge?

Bears may not sh*t where they sleep, but obviously pigeons have no issues with that.
not exactly like flying birds have a choice when they cant leave the nest literally ever at the start of their life lol, adult pigeons like to stay very clean as long as theres water for them to use
