Thank you Jim sir ❤❤❤ your every video is very very valuable for me because I am fibromyalgia patient and I retraining my brain for MBS thank you sir❤❤❤
When I listen to yr videoes mainly this one my pain doesn’t go away it just kinda helps listening to this can’t explain thank u Jim . From uk 🇬🇧 il keep practicing
Hi Jim, I love the calm gentle way you speak. If I understood you correctly, that to do the exercise you should not be doing it to make the pain go away, but to give your body permission to do it’s thing. Problem is for me is all I want is for the pain to go which is the reason I’m doing the exercise. Help!
Hi Irma: this is the crux of it. You’re trying to teach your brain not to be afraid of what’s happening in your body. Because what’s happening is benign and not truly dangerous we don’t need to worry about it. And if we don’t need to worry about it we don’t need to actually do anything about it to make it go away. It will actually go away on its own when you stop worrying about it and start to re-interpret it as benign and as being OK. You do that by fully experiencing it in your body With openness and acceptance. Keep practicing it’s a process that gets easier and deepens with repetition. The piece about wanting it to go away though is a piece that keeps many people stuck. I saw this in my own healing and it kept me stuck for a long time. Take care!
Esther Laseur Yes I get it ultimately we want the pain to go but ironically it only goes when we fully accept it and are not concerned by it anymore. That’s why we do this practice because it teaches the brain it’s safe to feel these things and that we can accept and allow what’s happening to take place. Just keep working with it, the practice deepens with repetition and causes a larger shift in the brain. Take care
Thank u Jim . Regards from uk 🇬🇧 . I’m really struggling cronic pain but I’m trying th somatic tracking . Nothing has changed guess I’m not doing it right thank u 🙏
@paintpt: Would it be possible to post the details of the 2020 study that you mentioned (around 6mins 20 secs) about pokers and withstanding pain so that I can share it with a sceptical friend. Many thanks in advance.
I'm confused. Just subscribed to Curable and watching videos and practicing techniques. In some places you're advised to take control and talk to the amygdala and demand it stop sending pain messages and somatic tracking says don't fight it, let your amygdala go wild, help me please understand why this contradiction?
Yes I get this question a lot it’s probably the most common question. There is one aspect called cortical control where you’re trying to take control and downregulate the amygdala. In another way of looking at it there’s nothing to fix there’s nothing wrong so you can just accept it and let it pass. I actually don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here it’s a preference and I find some people gravitate towards one or the other. At the end of the day it is about acceptance I think because there’s nothing wrong. we can bring the strength in to stand up to symptoms meeting or not going to control us meaning we can do whatever we want and at the same time accept them. I talk about this in another video called acceptance from a place of strength
Jim, what if we are subconsciously “getting in the way” of our natural healing done by our nervous system through fear and false beliefs (even if we consciously believe in TMS)?
Ughhhh. That is how I am too. I fear getting in the way and never getting better. But I guess over time even if we can change 1% at a time. It is what I have been told. I still struggle with overthinking it and unconscious resistance. But have some small moments that I can allow.
@@fifiearthwanderer I hear you. I keep getting new injuries and I believe it’s due to unconscious self punishment and not caring for the self Louise Hay has a great book called You Can Heal Your Life and it lists every bodily ailment and how it relates to each underlying emotional issue or belief.
@@pattyboucetta1897I can relate, i recognize that with my situation I should have noticed years ago, I was living life at full speed and not listening to my body. I never knew how to love myself that way tho. We literally have to rewire how we have operated and it can take time. Self compassion is what I am learning. Tho it is hard at times. I literally just bought that book. Love the affirmations. I plan to use them daily.
Hi Jim. I have TMS pain and would like to try your somatic tracking exercise. Is it ok to do somatic tracking when my pain levels are very high? I am still fearful of the pain and am worried that focusing on the pain will increase this fear Thankyou
Thank you very much for the complete explanation, but in my case, sometimes the pain (back and neck) that I experience is so intense that it is extremely hard to "just observing it" and let it go..... Any advice to deal with this situation?.... thanks once again
Yeah it’s actually great if it’s moving around treating anxiety the same way it’s part of the brain nervous system discharge. You want to keep letting the body release what it’s giving you so just stay open and relax and it will take care of itself!
So, if my pain is benign and I tell myself I'll be fine - I will keep going! This sounds great but my lumber (top of illiac crest) when I sit, bend, stand or walk too much (30-60min or more) starts getting severe visable inflammation... Is the brain this powerful? P.s had serious car accident and has happened (inflammation) for 10 yrs now.
Thanks for this introduction. I have a question about the study you mentioned. Wouldn't not experiencing pain when poked with a hot poker be a bad thing? I get wanting to turn off chronic pain that isn't dangerous, but that doesn't seem like a good thing to me. Does that mean that mindfullness practices are going to desensitize us to all pain, even pain that is actually protecting us?
As we know people with chronic pain have higher sensitivity Levels that are beyond the normal population. So they may experience pain as let’s say an 8/10 versus a normal person might experience as a 3/10. This is from the brain so that is why we are working at that level to change Sensitivity levels
Why would you put your negativity out there for others ? Maybe you don’t realize it but your negative comment sticks in others minds , sorry it didn’t help you but maybe just keep that to yourself for the benefit of others
Feeling safe is key to allowing you to relax and be open

In his podcast Alan Gordon suggests in this case to instead focus on breathing. I think Jim has a link to the podcast on his website.
Can this help POTS?

I can't hear you - con you speak louder?
Still listening but it’s not helping nothing is
Get empowered as well- strong positive mental self talk , catch the negative, graded exposure, positive affirmation/visualization
And emotional awareness expression and regulation important
I spent eight months with doctor Shubiner personally. He didn’t help me.
It can take years for some people
