I’ve been studying and testing on my demo account so still a major noob but could someone tell me what’s a good stop loss in terms of pips on these risk management calculators? Is a 40 pip stop loss reasonable on 1-3% risk? The extremes like 20 or 100 seem ridiculous to me so I don’t know what the general approach is to pips. Higher pip stop loss means the lot sizes are that much smaller.
I scale it by the 10ths. 3 percent of 230 is 6.9-7$. A tenth of 7 is 0.70$-(LotSize) x 10 pips, =7.00
@@3minati That makes a lot of sense thank you. What about the pips though, 10 pips is too tight so is 30-40 pips the general recommendation? Let’s say for scalping not some long term price action move.
@@smolshamer6072 It really depends on what you trades first, than after on what time frame. Let's say if you trade on GPS/USD on a 5min Time frame and your TP is like 30-40 pips range, you may have a 10 to 20 pip stop loss depending on your strategy. If you are more of a swing or position trader than you want to have at least a 30 pip stop to have trade continuing for at least 1h to like days. And with these, you can adjust your lot size with a lot size calculator, you just have to enter your numbers and there you go, you can always just risk 1-3% on every stop loss you manage.
One good way to figure out a good stop I’ve noticed is you can use the 4H ATR on the particular pair you are trading and target 1:1 to 1:3 or more depending on what your exit strategy is
i use 35 -40 pips stoploss, on pairs like EURUSD, GBPUSD, EURCAD, USDCAD, AUDUSD, EURJPY, GBPJPY, EURAUD, CADJPY and GOLD
