Fortress is in the cantonement area which is a military area that's why you weren't allowed there. Please visit Packages Mall, emporium Mall, Gulberg (main market and mini market) and MM alam road ........all of these have good shopping areas......

Dear Lahore is very hot this time of the year, I would recommend doing your trips out after 6pm as it's too hot during the day and head back by magrib Salah time. You will enjoy it more and won't be too hot for you.
