    Can't understand the "thumbs down" feedback that some people are leaving. This guy is giving so much back to the recording community, with these videos, and opens himself up by interacting, and answering questions from everyone and anyone. These videos are absolute gems, and should be appreciated. I get it that everyone has their own opinion, and is free to express it, but he's giving so much of his time, and expertise to us, all for the incredible price of free.......how can anyone dislike that? Cheers Warren, and thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to post these awesome videos!

    Watched tons of videos looking for what books to read but every one of them included books that were nowhere to be found to purchase on internet! Then watched yours and it included just what I needed! Thank you so much!!! :D

    I love your passion Warren. I'm the same, large family, no one else plays. I remember being fascinated by a real old tape recorder I inherited when I was 11, long before I started playing guitar. Funny how these things get glued together and form the basis of a life long interest later in life.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Warren for explaining how to use a vacuum and a brush. I have been a studio tech for 40 years, this method is the ONLY way to clean your gear. Compressed air drives the dirt deeper in and shortens the lifespan. NEVER USE AIR!!! Love your channel and what you bring to our community.

    Warren,
    I can't tell you how wonderful it was to hear, and reminisce myself, on those old days of moving the huge stereo furniture around the TV to watch something special. We didn't have BBC but we did have Armed Forces radio and TV. TV was mono, radio was stereo and we did that trick a lot to get a better listening experience. I'm right back to being a kid again. :)
    Cheers!

    I've long maintained that 'A Night at the Opera' was the 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' of the 1970s. It was that epic, varied and creative, yet catchy and commercial at the same time. And as you've so rightly said Warren, it's all very well and good to get complicated with music, but you always have to SERVE THE SONG. Keep doing what you're doing, you are a constant source of inspiration. Cheers mate!

    Hey Warren! Hope your doing well I need some advice on a board I'm buying used. I'm interested in buying a Mackie Sr 32.4 (not the the pro version), for around 350$. I want to use it for summing my mixes. The reason why I want to get a console is because I like the tactile feel of moving faders and knobs. Is this a good price for this board? It was used in a church setting and everything works and comes with a power supply. What's your opinion on this?

    • @Producelikeapro

      @MelodyBrony 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Produce Like A Pro hey Warren if you don't mind i one more question that I forget to ask, is there any requirement for a console being used for summing my mix through the console? The console is a 4 bus, I know most people prefer 8 bus but this is all I can afford at the moment. So my question is that if it is possible to sum my mix through a 4 bus console?

  • @bradford_shaun_murray
    @bradford_shaun_murray 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Warren...so this baffle sound treating a room caper is mostly for the listening to the mix environment right? As on the playing the sounds side to be recorded via mics I've heard of people recording their studio sounds in all sorts of places that aren't even or minimally acoustically treated like hotels (Machine Head), basements (Exile on Main St.) and even castles.
    So in terms of recording the sound (as opposed to listening to what you have recorded), it's pretty much a free for all for where you actually record the sound eg from bathrooms to castles right with little to no acoustic treatment of those environments? In other words the listening environment should be treated best as possible, but on the other hand the recording environment doesn't really have to be depending on the how you feel the "bathroom or castle" affects the mics recording the sound. What do you think about the listening vs recording environment for treatment vs less or no treatment?

  • @tarynfoxcroft7949
    @tarynfoxcroft7949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it a good idea to use a different mic for vocals from all the instruments in order for the vocals to stand out in a mix? Also, same question for pre amp.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dear Life Comma having a variety of Mics definitely can help give us a multitude of sounds. However make great recordings have been made with just one mic! So if you only have one don’t let that hold you back!

    Hi Warren, love the show and am watching from Cambridge, UK! As a fellow Beatles fan I was hoping you could help me a little with using my Waves EMI TG12345 plug in. How do you set the hold and release controls? They don't seem to work like traditional attack and release controls and seem very sensitive to the input gain. Thanks so much for your marvellous channel!

      Hi Ollie, that's a fantastic question! I am going to delve in very soon! Personally do not have enough experience! Did you watch the Recording The Beatles video with Clay Blair I did? I agree too. there are many great albums from that era. Two of my favourite albums from a later period are Elvis Costello's two albums, Armed Forces and This Year's Model. Two great albums with such a fantastic raw sound, great catchy songs, very basic musically but with drums and bass playing to die for.

    Hi. I watched your March 13 live Q&A but didn't find anybody asking about mic recommendations for rap vocals. Which 5 microphones priced $300 to $3500 would you recommend for recording rap vocals?

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andre, huge question! Many people use something as cheap as an SM57 or a SM7, others use large diaphragm condenser such as a U87! A good quality mic should work well! If it has to be hand held then a SM57 or 58 is very typical!

    Hello Warren! I wonder if there is any Plugin that actually not only gives you the flavour (and sound) of a tape machine but also provides a function like varispeed that especially Geoff Emerick used a lot on Revolver and Sgt Pepper to achive certain drum sounds and vocal sounds by speeding the tape up or down? Or if there is no such Plugin available, how would you reproduce that kind of "function" in the digital world? As far as I've tried, I failed on to reproducing such a sound by using a timestretch/pitch function in combination of a tape Plugin like Waves J37 or Slate's Tape. It doesn't sound alike at all. Any advice or hint is appreciated. Thanks & cheers, Jens

    Hey Warren, great material as always! Question for you: I was listening to the new A Perfect Circle release today, and there's a kind of "pre-delay" effect on the vocals in one song, TalkTalk (the word "crisis", specifically). How would you achieve that? just an overdub, or is it achievable using an effect on the main vocals track?

    I'm a little surprised that none of Mixerman's (Eric Sarafin) books made the list.

      There's so many great books! This is just 4 I LOVE! There would be a wider range if there were a Top 20! Maybe one day!

    My favorite Q&A so far! I've read 3 out of 5. Had a fairly ancient version of Modern Recording Techniques forever, we've talked about Here, There, and Everywhere (so jealous of the signed copy), and got the Phil Ramone book a couple years ago. Might I recommend Soul Mining: A Musical Life www.amazon.com/dp/0865478597/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wxV2AbF30TB3Z
    It's Daniel Lanois's book. Pretty good read!
