No the tutorial I was looking for but the tutorial that I needed. These seem so much more practical than the wood frame shelters I was looking to build. Thank you!
We did this exact thing for our pigs last year. If you cut some 1/2" pex about 4" long and make a slit in it you can slide it over the cattle panels edge trapping the tarp under it which holds it on really well. Ours lasted all year!
Great modification suggestion! These were (and are) a total life saver... it surprises me every year how quickly the heat can kick up! -the Shepherdess
So glad to hear this! My incredible mom is the master mind. TX heat almost killed my grazing plan last summer until she came up with these. 🙌🏻🐑☀️ -the Shepherdess
Good morning. ☕ I like how you do things. You think things through and I see things done with very little waste of product/cost. Family help also. 🙌🙌🙌❤️ God bless you and the family. Be well. 🙏☝️👍👍🙌
I'd recommend canvas (what old tents are made from) because of how durable it is, its's a light color, and I feel like shade cloth has a lot of tiny holes to catch on things leading to tearing when being dragged across a field.
Will work for sheep, not so much for goats. We have used this type of temporary structure for goats (and sheep) and because of goats' nature to climb on things, they destroyed all our efforts within 24 hours. :( Though tarps work well to provide shade, higher quality tightly woven ones do not dissipate heat well so it is important to place your tunnels in a way that they would get a cross draft if possible.
Do you think this could work will larger goats (like boar or larger meat goats)? It seems that a larger goat would be less likely to climb than the smaller and hyper Pygmy goat or Nigerian dwarfs
Ingenious. I don't have any goats yet. Doing research. We have steep slopes and I want to be able to move the shelter around the 5 acres by myself with no machinery. The stakes would also help keep the shelter from falling down the steep hill. Shade cloth great idea. Next I need to learn about the electric fencing that rolls up and can be moved. Do you know of resources that show more steep ravines? Our property is tricky.

Just wondering how they do in heavy wind. Where I’m at in western Colorado. The wind is insane. I think I’ll try it with Duck Canvas. Finally getting some sheep. In the next week.
Are you planning to use these again in the warmer months or do you have changes in mind? I've got 25 sheep on 11 acres but they congregate and rest under a single shade tree or their barn and I'd like to get them away from that on a rotation schedule, but this past summer in Texas was brutal.
Yes! These are still crucial to my rotation, but I replaced the tarp with UV proof shade cloth. It doesn’t catch the wind as bad and holds up under the sun exposure better. 👍🏻
I got a rather large charge out of the HOA comment, some HOA'S won't even allow a dog over 5 pounds, I doubt they would allow sheep, let alone a shelter made from blue tarps & cattle panels. Anyway, great idea !
Haha, that’s the truth! We used to own property in an HOA. Could barely repaint your porch trim without someone breathing down your neck. 😂 -the Shepherdess
@@theShepherdess I have no first hand experience, but have friends who have been desperate to get out of theirs. The rules are very strict if you’re in the historic district you can’t even choose the color paint and even clothesline’s are prohibited 🚫 I pity them.

Great idea. If I were a sheep I would want to be on your ranch!!!
Ha! We are running a regular resort over here. 😂😂🐑
Great idea. Will be giving this a try. Thanks
Shepherdess this is life saving, it’s about to start being 90 degrees here in Tn and I don’t have much shade. 🙏🏾 thank you.

My goats would eat the tarps
what if you also included a climbing toy for the goats inside the electric fencing? Or will the goats still destroy the shade tent?

Well done, gorgeous woman
Thank you for the great info
Works for poultry in wet climate as rain cover.
What the length of the cattle grid?
Have you thought about using billboard sign tarps
I have not, but it might be worth trying!
good teaching video. Well done
Thanks so much, Dwight!
💚I love you sister 🌿🐐
Lol an that last remark. " anchor or they will be kites " so how do you anchor yours?? Thanks keep up great work.

I ultimately replaced the tarp with shade cloth because it caught too much wind!
Neat Idea!!

How long are the chains you use? Where are they from? I'm in the backyard now and I made it to the chain part 😂
Bought the chains at Lowes... 90" long!

I don’t know if I missed it; but, what do you do to anchor these?
Tent stakes!
@@theShepherdess what kind of tent stakes. Mine pulled right out with the first burst of wind.
Bridget - you can put some sandbags on the chains
Nice video. Looks good for goats.
BTW, delete Jandy's comment, not a nice link.

Wanted this to work so bad but they wouldn't stay standing up for me.
Sorry about that! Make sure your chain isn’t too short. 👍🏻
