Are you going to trust all the strength/rigidity (of that beam separating the storage compartment from the fuel tank compartment) on just the fiberglass you're prepping for or will you install a plywood bulkhead behind as the member that actually supports it? As an architect, I think I would feel better about the life of that separating beam if it had a structural support member underneath rather than just the fiberglass that makes up the wall of the storage compartment...but you're the boat expert, not me. Another super-informative video! BIG thumbs up!!

Hey andy, I have been watching your channel for a while now. I love the way you present your Projects. I believe , (And everyone correct me if I am wrong) your Video's can easily be converted into a step by step Course that you can Offer on Skillshare. It can be an Extra source of Revenue with out to much more than watch you already do. You explain yourself and the concepts well. Skillshare teachers can make as much as 100K a year doing this. Now I can't call myself a friend as I have never met you. But I am a fan of what you do , And I believe I would be wrong If I didn't try to persuade you to think about it. and Please everyone call me out if you think I am wrong but, I believe you have more potential than you realize. I hope you and everyone else don't think I am over stepping myself as that is not my intention.

I enjoy watching your vids. I've learned a lot from them. I tried "glassing" some small things to try my hand at it, and found out I just don't have the talent for it. That just taught me to appreciate true tradesmen like yourself. Thank you for sharing and please continue to post vids as they are able to fit in your schedule.

Having had to do a few bits on my boat needing a similar resolve I wish I had thought of flat to flex shall we call it. Makes the process a lot simpler and less time consuming. I've actually got a shaped seat and battery compartment to make so may employ this and see how it fairs.

I would like to add a windscreen to an older aluminum 16' fifishing boat, cna you do this and would you do a show on this?

I planned on doing the same thing with CSM and Polyester resin to create a backer for filling in and deleting some wrap around windows on my 1980s fiberglass RV. The idea is nearly identical to your insert. It's to make a form for building up fiberglass where there is none in two flat planes with a corner radius between them. I'm basically filling in the hole left where the window once was.
Can you think of any reason this wouldn't work? I have a preference toward polyester for this build to keep uniform materials with the original construction. Also to keep cost down.
If possible, I'd be using a base layer of gel coat under the initial flat layup to get the color layer in place nice and evenly. How well does gel coat take to bending once cured? Should I add it after the piece is bent?
Tried making a mould following the method to fix non skid patterns, 4 coats of pva and the gel cost has stuck to the non skid pattern. Can I remove without damaging🙏🙏🙏🙏

Morning Andy, been enjoying your videos for many years now especially the Boston Whaler Transom rework something that I need to do to my Dad's Montauk. So I am looking to purchase a 1977-1988 33-41 foot Hatteras, Egg Harbor or a Trojan but they don't have access to the swim platform other than climbing over the transom. So my question is can a door be cut into the transom without destroying the strength of the transom or the boat itself, the boats that are on my list are twin inboards..... thanks Andy for your awesome videos...

I was given a boat load of this really heavey duty biaxel Fiberglass it’s like 39 oz I think
How do I use it?
Instead of using gelcoat, could I use wax in the final coat of resin? I have pigment in my resin. The final coat is often tacky and takes a loooog time to harden fully

Looks like MDS & total boat epoxy are 2:1 ratio mix. Seems that the way the industry goes. I have 3 michael engineering pumps. Some day a new invention: polyester resin slow:)
