    Great shooting, Bloke! I love the scenes of Swiss folks on bicycles with rifles slung on their backs. Also, that electronic target system is fantastic. I grew up firing a group, running down range to check and mark the target, firing another group, rinse and repeat.

    I like shooting a 6 o'clock hold when shooting slow prone with irons. You just have to make sure your zero is solid, but seeing the top of the front sight touch the bottom of the aiming black, my eyes see that way better than shooting a center hold.

    My K31 is also a 1947 as far as I could ascertain. I’ve added a slip-on butt pad and a Vortex 2-7 power “Scout” telescopic sight.. Sacrilege I know, but a more modern and cost effective alternative to a very pricey target sight. My local club range is indoors and “only” 100m, but outdoors and further is extremely scarce in Belgium. I’m inspired to give the old dame an outing again soon!

    Great video, never got to go to a field shoot, I did get to attend multiple team shoots from 89-97, and moved to the US in 98. I have made it back to Solothurn a few years back and got to shoot an afternoon in the club. In the beginning I mainly shot the Stgw57, and started using only the stgw90 around 1995 for the Thun shoot. I also participated in the 50 meter pistol with my GSP, and did have for a while a 210-4. Would love to be able to show up with my K-31 for a shoot. I do use my champion glasses, but have not changed the lens since mid 90’s. I have slowly made it to 60’s so not what I use to be in shooting.

    @jerichooo271 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I concur with the opinions on the newly allowed bypods for the karabiner. Although I was pleased to see more people using 31s, didn't see anyone else shooting sling supported besides me... I can't help but see it as a bit "cheaty" but alas ...
    Congrats on the 66, got a "mere" 62 on my end.

    • @jadedengineer
      @jadedengineer ปีที่แล้ว

      K31 standard stock setup isn’t as conducive to sling shooting. Curious how he set his up to minimize changes to barrel pressure and impact due to forces on the sling.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's absolutely fine as an arrangement. There's no magic to it other than keeping the sling tension as well as everything else constant, which for me means having the sling as high up on my arm as possible, and if you watch how I settle into position with each shot, that's also having the same effect.

    • @88porpoise
      @88porpoise ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering if the allowance of bipods may be due to aging demographics of those who use the bolt action rifles. I don't have any data, but I would assume that they are more popular among the older people who grew up with them while the younger people probably gravitate towards the newer rifles.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is indeed due to the aging demographics, plus the fact that the other rifles you're allowed to use both have bipods. In my early 40's I'm unusually young in preferring a Karabiner to a Stgw 90.

    • @crono331
      @crono331 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @88porpoise veterans could already use support with the karabiner.
      For me was unfair that shooters could heavily mod the 57 to the point that just the receiver was original, but almost no mods for the k31.
      Even the 90 now can fit a ringkorn.
      Anyway, a bipod on a k31 wont make it much easier for the feldschiessen.

    Having done the same many times, I have two suggestions:
    1. Dress with less next time. High body temperature and good target shooting never go well together.

    The panting noise from the microphone reminds me when we played the part of troops embarked on the Piranha prototype in 1979 in Chur.
    They took a bunch of us out to don various outfits and do the scenes of rushing out of the vomit wagon.
    One scene had us dressed in very threatening black outfits and bearing some fancy weaponry, all while talking to each other with radios activated by noise, that meant that after running out of the vehicle and rushing to the buildings we were supposed to secure, the panting noise made one believe there was some sort of orgy going on..

    Hi Bloke, do you think oiling the bullet makes a difference for GP11 accuracy?

      I have never seen anyone oiling the bullet.

    I'm curious about your bolt handle. I hadn't noticed it in any previous videos. Is it an allowed alteration? Must be. MY K31 is a '39 with a diopter from St. Marie's in Kalispell, MT. Not fancy but it can shoot better than I'm currently capable.
    Our club shot the field match on May 21st but I missed it. First missed match since joining in 2020. We're only allowed the old wooden rifles in the states due to import laws and such.
    Looking forward to the addendum! For now, 66 is the score I have to beat. I've been target shooting my whole life but this is the first formal competing I've ever done and I'm really enjoying it! Maybe I'll see you at Schützenfest in 2025.
    I'd gladly welcome you to our club if you're ever in the area. Our facility isn't the fanciest but we can boast that we have electronic targets on our 300m!

      Yup, it's an allowed modification (otherwise it wouldn't be on there), made by Wyss.

    Problem is that only the GP90 is subsidised, many of the 7.5mm weapons will slowly disappear from the Fäldschiesse.
    Sad about this choice and think I also will take my K31 out of the safe and try my hand on it, military standard as issued to my dad in 1951.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว

      That decision has been overturned. GP11 price remains unchanged.

      @@BlokeontheRange nice to hear.
      I had the habit of doing the FS and OS the same day.
      Usually using my Fass90 for the OS and either my old Fass57 or my dad's K31, alternatively my father in law's, for the FS.

    I hear Germans talking at 6:54 - is the Feldschiessen open to foreign competitors? Or do you have to have an address in Switzerland? Or a Swiss passport?

      I think that non-residents can compete but have to pay their own ammo these days. They insist on your Swiss social security number now on the scoresheet.

    Bin selbst recht überrascht wie gut ich die Anweisungen von der Standaufsicht als nicht-Schweizer auditiv folgen konnte, auch wenn ich merke, dass wenn ich mich nicht genaustens darauf konzentriere, die Sätze für mich in einem Zug verschwimmen... und dabei ist der Bayrisch-angehauchte Dialekt hier nicht viel anders!
    Gibts von deiner Seite Schwierigkeiten, all jene unterschiedliche Dialekte der angrenzenden Kantons zu verstehen? Mir selbst fällt es als Oberösterreicher hier der Tiroler und besonders der Vorarlberger schon schwer...

      Die schlechte Qualität über den Lautsprecher machen die Sache natürlich extra schwer. Aber als Schwabe mit Verwandten im alemannisch-schwäbischen Sprachraum kann ich den Schweizern meistens ganz gut folgen. Die Grammatik und der Satzbau sind fast gleich, nur die Aussprache ist anders.

    Re bipod. I find more sportmanshiplike a bipod than the fancy and expensive jackets with slings and stuff. In a war you will sure find a rock to rest the rifle on to shoot at the enemy. I sort of doubt you will be wearing jacket, special glasses and so on 😂
    And btw i shot with the zweibeinstutze and it aint easier at all in schnellfeuer as you need to readjust the rifle after every shot.
    Tried sling alone, forgetaboutit
