  • Sailing from Benicarló Spain to Antibes France through the "Golfe du Lion." I bring back my boat Ragnar while trying to make HF contacts from the cockpit, which turned out to be very difficult. I spent 40hrs at the helm in force 7 winds but arrived safely in Antibes after a nine-day trip.

Hi Gil, I'm glad you got home safely. I hope you enjoyed it! And I don't like contests, they have no respect for others. A lot of times I canceled SOTA activations, they take over the whole band and you can't do anything.
    73, take care!

👍Glad you made it back OK Gil. I followed progress from your GPS tracker, I tried calling you many times and listened for hours while I was working on 14300/10123. What an adventure! I am surprised that you had any time for radio given the demands of sailing. Well done for logging some contacts.
On a less positive, I remember that day the contest was on and heard contest stations on/around 14300 here in GM-land. I think you have to feel sorry for them- after spending all that money on a tower, beam, linear amplifier and latest flagship transciever, perhaps some of these contest ops have no money left to buy a copy of the bandplan 😄 ?

You may need to burp the cooling system, could be air-bound which is causing over-temp on the engine. You get a chance, check the sea strainer, see if it is gunked-up, clean it off.

Wow! That is pretty amazing! Your boat is only 6' longer than my little 14' sailing dingy and you are going in open water! A lovely boat, (if one with room for you to improve) and remarkably spacious for a 20' double ender! I haven't attempted to take any radio on the water yet. Of course, in Kansas we are about as landlocked as you can get, but we do have some fair-sized artificial lakes.DE AD0MU.

I followed the map program and could see where you were at any given time. I definitely understand that you could not spend time making radio contacts. You had your hands full sailing that boat. I can't imagine how exhausting it was to be at the helm the whole time and not get any sleep. If there was two of you one could rest while the other sailed. I would of been worried about getting thrown overboard from a large wave. You have a lot of skills to be able to sail that boat that long distance. I enjoyed hearing about your sailing adventure. And am very glad you made it safely.
