The Making of the Unity in Diversity Batik Cape for Miss Universe 2022

I was very grateful to have two women artists to create my beautiful batik cape for Miss Universe 2022. We're taking you behind the scenes to see how it was created.
The cape represents Indonesia's national motto, Unity in Diversity, and tells a story of the archipelago and the power of living in harmony.
The sacred Balinese dragon, symbol of the human connection to the natural world, frames the image and the tree of life that connects all forms of creation, straddles the centre. Indonesian animals, birds and sea creatures fill the spaces.
The open book displays Laksmi's advogac of literacy and literature, the birds, the symbol of peace.
Indonesia is one of the most species rich and heavily forested countries on earth with the world's most diverse marine ecosystem. This natural wonderland reflects the diversity of the Indonesian people who maintain a harmonious life despite differences in ethnicity, creed and customs.
The cape also carries a message of the importance to conserve our planet, to appreciate the beauty of coexistence, to heal the growing divisions amongst communities and to seek ultimate harmony.
Unity in Diversity is a message of love, preservation and world peace.
The artwork was created by Tjok Maya Kerthyasa, Ubud, and the batik was hand-painted by Quarzia, Batik Artisan Studio, Ubud.
