As a social worker for homeless youth and young adults, I see suffering every single day and it is my job to provide support and hope to those who feel all hope has been lost. I can’t tell you the amount of times I cried in my car after speaking with a 19 year old in tears with no place to call home or a pregnant mother with zero support from family or friends. Suicide and depression are on the rise in the lives of our young people. All I can ever do is give it to God but in the same way that I give him the concerns of those I advocate for, I give to him my own concerns. My housing is now at risk and threatening to derail the many years of progress I have made despite having been raised through the foster care system. Boy do I feel defeated sometimes and attacked from every side, but I know he’ll see me through so I can continue the good work and be a voice for those who feel forgotten and unheard.

There are a lot of things that the writers could be referring to, but one story that might help is the story of Abraham. He was promised, by God, to be the a father of many nations, but he only had one son. He never saw the fulfillment of God’s promise in his lifetime, but God still came through.
You know its really crazy/ironic how things work out sometimes. I was in a relationship with someone I thought I was gonna marry. I thought she was the girl that was meant for me. We had a lot in common etc. Things started to not add up/patterns changed and of course I found out she had been lying, cheating, texting/flirting with other guys etc. Completely broke my trust. On top of trying to deal with that/breakup, work was playing favoritism for less experienced less respected folks for leadership positions. Provided them with preferred schedules and gave me the short end of the stick. I have been miserable and just slowly starting to get better and heal from the mental abuse both caused. My friend kept inviting me to come to church and today I made myself go. And this was the very first song they played/sang and I had tears in my eyes. Even as I listened just now I shed a few. Thank you. It was just really ironic to be going through so much and walk into church and have this be the first message. It kind of just lets you know you are in the place you need to be in that moment. I started a new job this past week and went to church today. Hope is healing.
